He roughly dried his hair and ran a comb through it, before heading downstairs to collect his phone, wondering where her car was. He could see the twins pushing towels along the floor, running along laughing about they could beat the other one, had turned it into a game of some sort. Competitive, he thought, and turned to head for the internal door to the garage. He flipped the light switch and there was her car parked next to Marrin’s old car.

He heard the boys yelling out for back just like any dad would, “I’m coming boys.” And headed off to where they were. They held the towels up to him, and he took them, strolled them down to the laundry and put them in the washing basket to be laundered tomorrow.

“Dad?” and smiled. It was a nice thing to hear, and he called out right

Then he stated, “Now whose idea was it to trick me into not knowing you were coming here? I’m sorry boys, I still haven’t gotten the hang of who is who,” he stated honestly, he couldn’t tell them apart at all. That was something that would take time and he knew it.

They grinned up at him, and he knew why. They liked that no one could do that. “I’m Callum, and it was mum’s idea. She said it would be a nice surprise, for us, to give you for Christmas,” Callum told him.

“A reward for your good behaviour,” Vincente smiled at him, “The best present we could give you, is it?” he asked.

Calvin smiled down at the two of them and hunkered down. “It is the very best present, and it was very sneakily done. Tricking me to think the phone had been shipped to your grandma’s.”

They both laughed at him, and he saw their eyes so very green with amusement, changed colours just like his did with his mood. “Mum’s got a devious writer’s brain,” Callum stated, “It’s what she always says.”

“That it appears she does. Come here and give me a hug boys.” He smiled at them.

They did, just stepped over to him and hugged him and he them “I missed you boys.” He told them and he had. Would likely miss them every moment they were apart. “How is your mum, what does she remember?” he asked, wondering if they would tell him anything about her.

“She remembered some things about the house. As we walked about it earlier, she got some memories back,” Callum told him.

“I think she’ll get them all back soon.” Vincent smiled at him, “Maybe she’ll remember you too.”

“I can only hope so, boys.” He nodded. “Come on, let’s go and see her.” They all headed out to the guest house, and he wondered why she had made herself at home out there, when she had a bedroom in this house. No, he reminded himself, Marilyn didn’t have a bedroom here, but there were plenty of other rooms she could stay in, the boys too.

She was just sitting on the couch in the guest house, drinking a cup of coffee with her laptop in front of her, working already, he wondered? She also admitted to him about recalling a few things, being here was going to be good for her. The only other thing that could help her to recover who she was, he thought, was him being here.

She didn’t look too happy about that, but the boys he noted were on his side, and she caved to them. Those boys were going to help him, and he knew it. They wanted their parents to be together as much as he did, he realised at that moment. So he would stay here with them, though even as he thought about that, the boys’ gifts weren’t with him. He was going to have to head into the city to collect them. He looked at his watch. It was only mid-afternoon, but it would be a two-hour drive to Houston and back, and he’d have to stop at the apartment to pack some clothes and go to the airstrip to get their gifts.

“Marilyn, boys,” he gained their attention. “I wasn’t planning on staying here. I’ll have to go into the city, to my apartment and get some things. I’ll also have to make a trip to my plane. The boys’ Christmas presents are on it. Seeing as I was leaving for Virginia in the morning, I didn’t take them off it.”

“Just go,” Marilyn stated. “Don’t mind us.”

“Can we go with you, see your plane?” Callum was tugging at his sleeve.

He smiled down at his son. He would like that, but it was probably too soon and those scooters weren’t wrapped either. He’d been going to do it at the hotel tomorrow. His eyes moved to Marilyn, and she was frowning slightly.

“Boys, perhaps another time, you stay here with your mother. It’s not a short trip, an hour each way, and another 40 minutes to the airstrip. It’ll be dinner time by the time I get back, so how about I pick something up, and we can all eat together?”

“Burgers and fries.” The boys yelled up at him.

“Sure.” He smiled and looked at Marilyn. “Is that okay with you?”

“It’s fine, they’ll want extra fries, and chocolate milkshakes,” she nodded.

“You?” he asked.

“Where are you going to get them from?” she asked in return.

“The surf and turf down the road?” he commented.

“Alright, I will look it up and text you what we want, make it a bit easier for you.” She nodded.

He smiled at her and nodded, got himself an escort to his car by the boys, and they waved him goodbye, it was a really nice feeling to hear them yell out “Don’t be long dad.”

Marilyn

Calvin came back with not only dinner, but dessert as well. The boys had run off to greet him up at the driveway. All the pathway lights had been turned on by either Denise or Henry. She wasn’t certain which, but she just let the boys run out there to greet Calvin. It was likely going to be their normal when he was coming and going.
