She’d also been standing right next to Calvin when he’d walked into this very room. Like she’d always done when he wasn’t there, and she was waiting for him. When Calvin had arrived first, maybe things were going to be better between them after this.
“Calvin was helpful enough to book the entire restaurant for me.”
she smiled up at him.
He wanted to ask why she’d done this, but she’d tell him when she was ready and he knew it. There were many well??ishes, and they all sat down to eat, Calvin right there at their table even, again showing him Anabell must be ready to forgive him. He left it alone, liked that she was once again getting along with Calvin, he wanted that. It would mean they could all start going out to dinner once more and that would come in handy later on, when and if he could get Marilyn to join them.
Anabell insisted that he open his presents while in the restaurant, and she was he could see excited about something. He opened Calvin’s gift second last and in that box was a set of car keys for an Alfa Romeo. He Tooked at Calvin and the man just smiled at him.
“You need a new car, been driving that BMW forever. It’s also out the front for you to drive home, you walked right by it to come in here.”
Calvin chuckled.
“Alright, thank you, a little bit too much but accepted.”
He nodded. Calvin wasn’t one to just give cars as gifts. Anabell smiled at him and held out a small white box with a golden ribbon wrapped around it,
“It’s small but…. I think this will be the best gift I’ve ever given you.”
He raised an eyebrow at her.
“Marrying me was the best gift you could have given me,”
he told her honestly and saw her smile but pointed to the box.
He lifted the lid and stared at the pair of booties inside it, and it took him a full ten seconds to comprehend what they meant. His eyes moved to Anabell.
“R… Really?”
he kind of stammered. They weren’t trying to get pregnant as far as he knew.
“Yes, we’re pregnant.”
She smiled at him.
“I found out last Friday.”
He could not only see the happiness in her expression but heard it in her voice as well. She wanted this, he realised. It was something he’d always told her was her decision completely hers, because it was her body, that they’d have children when she was ready. She was 14 years younger than he was, so he wasn’t going to pressure her into having a family solely because of his age. He pulled her into him and kissed her deeply.
“A perfect gift.”
He told her
“Still second to you agreeing to marry me.”
He smiled lovingly at her.
Calvin
He’d known about Wil’s birthday party for weeks now, and he’d debated on what to get him, had thought about it alot, what to get him. Had thought of an overseas trip. Though with all that was going on here with him and Marilyn, he didn’t know if it was advisable. He had actually managed to get Anabell to talk to him about it. She’d been quiet on the phone for a long time and then had told him a secret that he was not allowed to tell Wil under the penalty of death.
She was trying to get pregnant and was hoping to be by Wil’s birthday, so she didn’t want him to gift an overseas trip to Wil. She had told him maybe a nice weekend away Glamping, or something like that if he was going to still want to gift a trip. But to make it local.
He’d smiled at the news and told her he’d hoped everything went to plan, and so he’d come up with a better idea himself. He knew both Anabell and Wil drove BMWs and that Wil’s car was six years old. He’d smiled to himself and in that moment decided that they both needed a bigger, newer and safer car to drive that baby around in. That a new top of the line car with all the latest safety features would be an appropriate gift.
He’d brought not just one car but matching cars, a black Alfa Romeo Tonale TI for Wil, and one in white for Anabell. He’d thought it was the perfect gift for a growing family. They weren’t so low to the ground as the
BMWs were.
So there would be no ducking down and half climbing into their vehicles when that baby was born, to but it in the car seat. He’d seen his sister Cheryl struggle with that very thing after having Heather, his niece. Cheryl had a bad back and getting in and out of her car had been an issue to how low it had been. Twinging her lower back in just the wrong way as to cause her pain.
He’d offered to buy her a new car, but she’d stated
“I can buy my own things in life.”
Seemed a bit offended by his offer, she was quite proud.
She was a teacher and her husband and accountant, and they lived out in Dallas, and he’d seen her buy tickets to win a car more than once over the years in those shopping center giveaways. He’d taken note of ter. Then the brand and model of the car that was available in that giveaway on that trip there to visit hi he had dummied up with the company her to take first prize, he had gotten them to agree to it by buying the car and having them announce they were giving away two cars, not one right at the very last moment of drawing the prize, and her name had been the second one drawn as an equal first prize winner.
He’d been careful to make sure the first prize drawn went to the actual real winner, so there were no issue of legality with the draw itself. She’d been very happy and excited to have won a new car, an SUV that was higher off the ground and eased her back issues when getting Heather in and out of the car. She now also had a nice story to tell about winning a brand??ew car.
Now here he stood in the restaurant and smiled as Anabell told Wil she was pregnant. Everyone, go to see her gift and be in the knowledge at the same time, no arguments over who was told first and no one felt left out. Her family could be a little like that. She’d gotten around it and with ease.
Wil looked completely shocked by the news, clearly had no idea, but then he just looked as happy as Anabell herself did. Wil had asked him at one point after that, while they were all sitting around eating his birthday cake,
“Did you know?”
and held up the keys to that new car at him.
Ofta points
“No,”
he answered honestly, it was just prudent planning, he’d thought, because of what Anabell was hoping to do, start their family.
“That’s also not a single car. I got one for Anabell as well,”
he’d stated.
“What?”
Anabell had gasped up at him.
“Hmm, thank you for you, forgiving me for being such an ass.”
