(Scarlett)

“You need to eat, Alex.” I said, handing my husband a bowl of soup. Right now it was all that we had, but I didn’t mind. As long as the two of us were together, it was something that I appreciated. The two of us were planning on leaving this place anyway. We just needed to find the right time and place to do so, and we needed to find the right way to do so without being caught.

The two of us barely had anything to eat since coming here, but I personally didn’t mind not eating. It was him that I was more concerned about, especially considering the fact that he was too tired to speak or say anything about what happened.

The nurses and maid that were with us managed to go out discretely to get us something to eat while I prepared for our trip for us leaving. We needed to make sure that we were able to get to the airport without getting caught by anyone who could actually risk getting us killed, and so far, we weren’t very lucky as we both knew that Mathew had more than just one person out searching for us. We needed to find a proper way to leave without risking Anastasia getting hurt.

“Did you eat anything, Scarlett?” He asked, and I sighed and wrapped my arms around him from the back. I had set the soup in front of him, and yet, he was refusing to put anything in his mouth. He put his hand on my arm, gently squeezing it as I purred. The man was more concerned about me now than ever, especially considering the fact that he knew that the night that we would have had cherished was ruined. However, I didn’t mind at this point. I knew that it wasn’t his fault. The woman did this on purpose and she did it to break the two of us. We just had to prevent her from doing so again, and we had to prevent her from getting into our heads.

“You really have to stop worrying about me, Alexander. I am eating and drinking, it is you who is fasting for days and nights if I don’t bring you anything to eat.” I said, and he smiled. His smile didn’t reach his eyes, and I couldn’t help but feel like my c*hest was on fire as I saw his pain through his eyes. Everything that we will be dealing with had to happen for a reason. I knew that for a fact, but the thing was, I didn’t know what that reason was. Was it for me to find out about what happened to my family? Or was it the fact that the two of us needed to know who were on our sides and who were against us? For now, I didn’t know, but I knew that I would eventually find out. I just need to take a deep breath and calm down. It was only way that I would be able to get out of this.

The fact that I could read his pain was not something that I could get over, especially since I knew that the reason behind it was the fact that he was mourning over his mother who he didn’t now whether or not she was alive. The fact that Alpha Matthew could easily end up telling her with something that I couldn’t let go of, it explained to me why Alexander doesn’t want me telling him about what happened. When I first found out about her burning the house, I was actually debating on whether or not to tell the Alpha about it. But seeing that what happened yesterday, I was thankful that I didn’t. I was truly thankful that I stayed quiet. The woman would have been dead, and her blood would have been on my hand. That was something that I didn’t want to deal with. It was something that I knew that I wouldn’t be able to handle, and that was something that Alexander knew for a fact.

We couldn’t even call or get in t*ouch with any of the pack members as we feared one wrong move could cost not only our lives, but the pack members’ lives too. At this point, Alpha Mathew was unpredictable, and I knew that him taking over could lead to lethal consequences. The fact that I saw a lot of pack members escaping the pack the second the fight got brutal was something that I could not get out of my head. What I knew was that pack was to fight alongside their outfit until the end. At this point, neither one of them actually went out to defend for their alpha, and that was something that confused me. I didn’t understand what it was about, but I knew not to ask any questions. Alexander didn’t need that, especially not now.

“I dragged you all the way here, and you were put in a mess that I know that you wouldn’t have wanted to handle; therefore, I know for fact that I should at least be taking care of you considering that you are here because of me.” He said, and I smiled at him. The man didn’t understand that I was here because I wanted to be with him. If anything, me being away from him was not something that I would have been able to deal with. I had no home with him, not around me. My daughter was saved by her father’s side. Regardless of the situation that we were in, I knew that it would be temporary and that our run would somehow just go away. We would find a stable ground somewhere. We just needed to be able to fight. Right now we were two weeks to do so and that was something that was normal. The shock that we were in was too great and I couldn’t blame him for it.

Yes, I had to admit, this was not how I expected our honeymoon to be, but to say that this was going to be a marriage that I would forever remember was not going to be a lie. This pack was one that has given me more memories than I could think of, and this was just going to be added to the long memory lane that I was going to keep in mind as days went by. I just needed to find the right words to throw it in.I needed to find the right positive words to ensure him that I was not angry. If anything, I was happy to be by his side regardless of the situation that we were in. At least I knew that he was well aware that I wouldn’t leave him. If I didn’t leave him now, then I wouldn’t do it when he was in his strongest state or when he was in a week or state. Right now we were in the weakest state possible, away from our pack, with no home and barely any money, but I didn’t mind as long as I was with him.

“You know, each one has a story to tell their kids about their marriage, we just got ours.” I said, and he raised an eyebrow before letting out a pained chuckle. It was one that I knew all too well. It was one that he often used to have when his father gave him a h*ard time when we were younger. At least I knew that I got a chuckle out of him after everything that he has been going through. To know that he was able to smile was something that I was thankful for. Especially since I knew that he was barely even able to sleep. Down something that I couldn’t draw, despite him not showing me that he was tired. I could see it in his eyes that he was.

“Yes, what are we going to tell them? That we lost our pack, my mom…”

“You are going to tell them that their grandmother who was a hero that ensured their safety and yours.” I said, stopping him. The woman had encouraged me to run with my daughter who she knew would be helpless at this state. I knew that Alpha Mathew would have killed her with no hesitation. It was one of the first thing that an Alpha did when taking charge of a pack after a blood fight. The offspring of the other Alpha were to die, and so would his Luna if not claimed by the new Alpha. At this point, I doubted that he would have let me live, especially since the Alpha that he would have killed would be his son.

“We would have all died and she has saved us. I don’t know what is her fate, I won’t lie, but whatever it is, she is and was the hero that we would have everyone remember.” I said, and he frowned, shaking his head in question. I knew that my words confused him, but I wasn’t here to tear him against his mother. If anything, I would have done so before, but I wouldn’t have done so now. The woman, if she was dead, has saved our lives. And if she was alive, then I was more than determined to give my life up for her the way she did for me and my daughter. That was something that Alexander needed to understand.

“Even after what she did to your parents?” He asked, putting salt on the wound that I tried so h*ard to bury and mend. The thing was, I knew that getting angry with her was not going to do me any good. There was no bringing them back regardless of what I did, and for that, I knew not to let the hate get to me. It was something that I was f*orced to live with, and regardless of the anger that I felt that night when I found out, I knew that there was nothing that I could do to bring them back. Therefore, there was no point in having greed or anger towards a woman over something that happened years ago.

“Yes, though it does hurt, I am not going to lie. I have burned inside every single day since I found out, and it killed me to admit that I didn’t even know how to let my pain out.” I said, and Alexander looked at me, studying my expression as he tried understanding what I was going to tell him.

I wasn’t the type to hold any greed. Yes, I did get angry, and yes, I did feel pain. But there were times when I knew that I was supposed to let things go and to live. I knew that I had to let this go, otherwise I knew that I wouldn’t be able to live with the woman under one pack. It was something that no person would have been able to deal with. Especially not without revenge.

“But I knew that she was your mother and getting in a war with her was not going to do the two of us any good. Also, there is the fact that she has raised me as a daughter for so long that I used to think that she was my mother. Yes, she was tough on me, but I know that I wouldn’t have been the woman that I am today if not for her.”

Alexander stayed quiet for a few seconds, processing my words before cupping my cheeks and connecting his l*ips with mine. His k*iss was gentle despite knowing that he was in pain, he treated me as if I were a jewel that he was afraid of breaking or losing. I knew that he was charging every single word that I was saying. And they word words of truth. I was not lying to him, nor was that sugar coating anything. I was there supporting him through everything that he could think of, and that was something that I wanted to him to keep in mind. It was something that I was determined to show him, regardless of how h*ard it may seem.

“You are my blessing in this world, Scarlett…” He whispered, “and no matter how many times I am going to have to say it, I am never going to do you worthy of what you are doing for me.”

His words made my heart skip a beat before I leaned in to k*iss him myself. My k*iss was gentle and loving and he smiled into it before pulling away to look him in the eye.

And I knew they were softer than his. My k*isses were rarely ever dominant. I didn’t know how to be one, but I also knew that he saw my love through my eyes and through my k*iss. He felt it. My arms wrapped around his n*eck as I hugged him tightly. Letting him know that I was there for him without saying any words.

I knew that he could feel it, and that was something that I was grateful for. His wolf was somewhat calm, and that was something that, despite his pain, that I felt grateful for. “For now, the two of us need to start working on how to fix things.” I said, my tone h*ardening a bit. “Then we will think of why you are worth my every breath, my beloved Alexander…”
