“You have no intentions of following through?”

“In part… if he lost it today and raged or tried to come at me, I would actually get up and leave. I found a nice home in the mountains in another state, which I’ve also made an offer on,”

she nodded.

“Preparation is name.”

needed in case the worst happens. I also won’t be buying it in my

He frowned at her.

“A closed private sale as well,”

she stated. And it would be, the house would be in both her sons’ names and would be theirs one day. Or she and the boys could use it as a nice holiday home or in the winters for skiing if everything worked out and Calvin wasn’t a tyrant of a man,

“Wil texted me about the USB and if you’ve watched what was on it?”

Liam asked her.

That made her sigh heavily,

“I did watch it, all of it. It’s not pretty, quite distressing at times.”

she nodded, Calvin… he did grieve Marrin’s loss and the way it happened, him not only having organised it,,but being right there to see the plane crash.

“The man was likely filled with guilt over it and blamed himself.”

She nodded.

“I got to see it all, how distressed and dishevelled he became as he desperately searched for Marrin.”

“The whole world got to see it at the time.”

Liam nodded.

“Which probably didn’t help him. I wonder how many people he knew looked at him with that look of, why’d you put her on those flights? Why wasn’t she on your private jet with you?”

She knew people liked to talk and gossip, speculate about things like that.

“It was brought up a few times in the news comments, it came down that he must have been away on business and meeting her in Italy,”

Liam told her.

“Then those heartless women, calling for him and trying to pretend they were… me.”

she shook her head, that was still a bit hard to wrap her brain around.

“Only I wasn’t dead, just missing. I can kind of see how he got to be all bitter and twisted about them. In his mind he thought I was one of them, was all.”

she shrugged.

“He now knows that I’m not an impostor and so do I.

“So you’re what? Betting with your own safety that you, actually being Marrin and admitting that you were her, even though you have no recollection of it… is going to straighten him out.”

Liam frowned at her.

“Kind of.”

She nodded.

“It’s why I made a point of telling him directly that I’m not Marrin, that I never loved him, I never wanted a family with him. That I may once have been her, but am no longer her. I honestly think he needed to hear it from me. That I acknowledge I was Marrin.”

She sighed,

“I may have stated that before, but what I think Calvin really wants is, as he actually stated in our first encounter on the street, for me to drop the act. He needs me to acknowledge what the truth is, that I am or was Marrin. That is the gamble I am playing.

“I don’t honestly know if it will work, to bring him some sort of peace, or some… semblance of it, but he no longer needs to try and prove that I am Marrin. Which is what I believe started all of this. Even the stairwell incident, again that was about proving I was or wasn’t Marrin. It’s what he needs… to find her. So…”

she shrugged.

“Now he has, and I have stopped denying it.”

“Thought about it a lot I see.”

“I had to. He’s Cal and Vin’s father. They know it, I know it and dads have rights. As much as I, Marilyn think that he should stay away. That is not fair on my boys… or Calvin either.”

she stated

“I am just… not going to bow to Calvin’s will. There has to be consequences for his actions… And him being a part of my boys’ lives, I want that to happen on my terms He’ll see I’m no pushover and, well, a little punishment Marilyn style, won’t kill him. But he has to be punished by someone.”

“And your punishment is going to be what exactly?”

Liam frowned.

“To make him stick to the restraining order, no contact with me or the boys until Christmas.”

She sighed softly.

“The boys have already asked me if they would meet him for Christmas.”

She shook her head.

“I let them look him up and read his bio to them.”
