Wil shook his head
“Calvin, you stated you had proof, present it to me, right now as the judge, what undeniable proof do you
C474 have. I also would like you to present to me the reason you believe Marilyn will not give her lawyers the go ahead to reinstate the charges against you once more.”
Wil held his hand out to him, as if Calvin had it on him and wanted him to hand it over.
“Your words, Calvin, will mean nothing to a judge or her lawyers. You may say whatever you like, but without evidence to back it up”
he shook his head
“Something you can’t possibly go and get or have anyone get, because no one knows where she actually lives other than the state, because it’s not public knowledge, and you’re also not allowed near the woman so…”
again he demanded answers from Calvin.
Calvin didn’t know what to tell Wil right this minute. He understood what Wil was indirectly saying that he believed Calvin had sent someone to hunt her down and find out everything about Marilyn Riddley. Something that contract stated he wouldn’t do. Wil was already ticked off and admitting he’d done that was only going to piss the man off further, but not answering him was also an admission of guilt on his part, and he knew it.
Wil knew him too well.
“I guess Calvin, I am resigning as your attorney.”
Wil muttered after a full minute of silence stretched out between them, and then he turned back to his task of collecting his law books.
“I’ll be packed up and gone from the building by nine this evening. Write up my official resignation and hand it to HR before I leave. It will be effective immediately.”
“Wil.”
Calvin huffed as he realised Wil would actually quit over this. He’d thought they’d be in this company together until they both wanted to retire. That had been the plan all along. His brain was ticking as to what he could say to keep him here in the company, and as his attorney.
“Alright, I admit it. I had Phillipe hunt her down and take pictures of her, after one of my techs hacked the system and found out where she was.”
Wil turned and looked at him, full disappointment and annoyance on his face.
“Photos are not proof of anything.”
Wil stated flatly
“Again purely circumstantial.”
“I saw the twins…”
Calvin sighed himself as he realised Wil wasn’t going to let this go.
“I had Phillipe collect DNA from all three of them. The boys are mine and Marilyn’s 99.9% match, which proves she is Marrin, Wil. I finally found her,”
he told him. Surely Wil had to understand that, he’d been trying to find her for eight long years.
CR 75
Calvin
He watched as Wil put his hands on his hips and the man’s head kind of just dropped down and hung there, for a long moment as he absorbed the information. There was no congratulations you found Marrin, no smile about it, nothing of the sort. Then he turned his eyes on Calvin and muttered,
“So, what you’re saying is that you had somebne break into Marilyn’s home, and rummage through not only her things, but the boys as well. Stole their DNA for testing against your own!”
“I guess you could put it that way.”
Calvin nodded.
“Guess? It’s not a guess Calvin, you just told me you did. So a f*****g fact is what it is. Do you know how many laws you broke in order to get your so??alled evidence? Which is now absolutely useless to you in a court of law, because it was gotten by illegal means. Not only did you do all this. Just how do you think Marilyn, who you’ve confirmed is now Marrin, is going to feel about you having a complete stranger trespass on her land, inside her actual home without her permission, and steal from her?”
“Well, obviously Wil, I wasn’t going to tell her.”
Calvin frowned at him.
“Well, I dare say she knows now, her lawyer I can guarantee, already suspects you’ve done this, and you’re claiming the twins are yours. She’s Marrin once more. Are you going to present them with the DNA tests you had run? And confirm to them all the laws you broke Calvin by getting it.”
Calvin frowned as he realised where this was going. He couldn’t actually present it to get Marilyn not to press charges against him by stating she was Marrin, and the twins were his. It would be inadmissible to the court, and only show he’d breached their contract and violated her and the twin’s privacy.
“Liam told me to tell you I’ll be a trial by jury. I’m not going to defend you anymore, Calvin. I had worked it out, found a way to do so without breaking the law in any way at all, I was also working to get you at the end of that restraining order, to be able to sit down in a room with Marilyn to discuss everything I’d found out. Now…”
Wil shrugged.
“You’ve gone and completely f****d it all up.”
Calvin frowned,
“Well, how the hell was I supposed to know that if you didn’t tell me?”
“I bloody did tell you, right after my first meeting with her in the bar, exactly that.”
Wil grated out right back.
“In your office once after that, as well.”
Calvin huffed as he realised Wil had told him this,
“Why would I believe you’d do that? When you’ve done nothing but tell me to stay away from her, that she’s not Marrin, to let it go and walk away.”
“Because of your bloody obsession is why. You were ruining your chance of her wanting to come back to you. I knew who she was. When I saw all those scars on her body, knew my theory on Marrin was correct. I set out with Anabell’s help to find evidence, and we did connected all the dots right back to when Marrin legally changed her name to Marilyn. All without going near her Calvin.
“My meeting with her was to present her with all the evidence of who she truly is, Marrin. That the boys are yours and hers. I was working on getting her to let you see them, maybe see her even, but now I dare say it’s all ruined by you Calvin.”
“Why the hell didn’t you present that evidence to me, before her. Tell me your plan.”
