“1, however, do have a few things that need to be taken care of, coming up, if it interferes with that, I can certainly send all of you somewhere nice even if I can’t go myself.”
“Calvin, that is not the plan. It’s a full family holiday, all of us will be going,”
she stated, staring right at him now.
He smiled at her, nearly chuckled, and this was the very reason why his mother sent her. Veronica was stubborn and wouldn’t let it go until he agreed, whereas his mother would usually cave to him, especially if it was business??elated.
“I understand, but…”
he had to refrain from stating his family wasn’t yet ready to come to him.
“When is it?”
he changed his statement to a question.
He knew that he had to let Marilyn, and the twins, Callum and Vincent, settle back into their lives and hopefully be able to forget, that it was him that had unwittingly caused harm to their mother, who was his ex??ife.
“In about three and a half months’ time, we all decided on a ski trip in winter, and were thinking, if you’re in agreement, of going up to Montana, to Big Sky. Getting one place for all of us to stay in together. A chalet or condo.”
Veronica smiled at him.
“Alright, that sounds fine.”
Calvin nodded, but he was already doing the math inside his mind as to when his

AVO and restraining order would finish,
“If you could make it early December, that would suit me more. I’ve got things to attend from the 20th of December to the end of the year, and January is going to be out completely.”
He didn’t want to miss another Christmas with his children and was hoping that he wouldn’t have to this year elther. That AVO had started on the 19th of June and would be completed on the 19th of December.
“Calvin?”
Veronica frowned deeply at him now.
“Please tell me that after the 19th, doesn’t mean you’ll be off hunting one Miss Marilyn Riddley, because she looks like Marrin?”
“I will not be hunting her.”
he answered simply because he didn’t need to. He had that information, so there would be no hunting, just him showing up and pressing her doorbell, likely have to take a bunch of flowers and smile tentatively as well. But it did appear that his sister was onto him. He ignored it.
“Find something at Big Sky and let me know the dates. I’ll fly us all out there on my Jet.”
He smiled at her, changing the subject back to the vacation.
“Well, we were thinking the week of Christmas going into new year, when the kids are off school. Before and after that, the children’s schooling will be disrupted.”
“I can’t do that week. I’ve got plans, but if you all want to go without me, I’ll pay for the accommodation, as my contribution for not being there,”
he told her.
“Your contribution, Calvin, will be the same as everyone else’s, and your attendance is mandatory. You were the one that started family trips like this after…”
she sighed a little.
“Marrin went missing,”
she finished her sentence.
“But yes, we’ll accept you flying us all out there on your jet. There are now 10 of us with little Heather being born, so a full plane. But the accommodation will be spread out between us equally, as it always is.”
Calvin sighed
“Fine, but I can’t do it at Christmas, or New Years, so either push it to late January or bring it to early December. Your kids are 10 and 12, they can afford to miss a week of school mid??inter. It won’t ruin their education.”
She was again frowning at him.
“So, if I move it to the date’s you want, you’ll attend the family holiday for a full week, yes? No work? No trying to track that author down or vanishing off to harass her?”
she asked him, folding her arms across her chest.
He shook his head and kind of rolled his eyes at her words.
“Did Wil send you, by any chance?”
he asked directly of her. It certainly did seem like it to him.
“No, but I know you, well enough to know that a woman that looks like Marrin is in your sights and you, big brother, are a cranky dog with a bone when it comes to those that look like Marrin, as now all of Texas has gotten to see a month and a half ago.”
He chuckled softly at her lightly paid insult.
“Hmm, normally I would agree with you on that, but I’ve seen her birth certificate, and she has two children of her own, two sons. I know not to harass her and them. Learned my lesson. I also understand she wasn’t coming at me, that I was the one that harassed her in fact.”
He nodded.
“I have learned to let it go, I believe. Wil and her lawyers made sure that I understand she wants nothing to do with me. Got that restraining order to prove it.”
“Which would end when exactly?”
Veronica narrowed her eyes right on him.
