“He did but without knowing the actual truth of the matter, that you are In fact Marrin Reeves,”
William stated.
“Actually, no she is not, William. My client legally changed her name after the divorce was finalized, so you can refrain from saying that. Marrin Reeves no longer exists, and in more ways than just a divorce and name change. Marilyn has no memories of being Marrin at all, so….”
Liam left it unsaid
William nodded, it was all the truth, and he couldn’t debate it, seeing as William had been the one to give them the solid proof of who she had been before the accident, causing her amnesia.
“What is it you want from me?”
Marilyn asked directly.
“For you to listen to Calvin’s side of all of this and, after the restraining order is over, for the two of you to get along and Calvin to be able to be a part of your and the children’s lives. In a nutshell.”
“I don’t want that man in my life, and I’m pretty sure that I know the reason as to why we got divorced in the first place,”
she shook her head.
“I don’t need a man like that in my life. So, I also don’t want him near my children.”
She stated simply and clearly.
“I believe I will come to more harm if he’s allowed to be anywhere near me. I also have no idea how he’ll treat my children. If he hates me so much, that he can assault me in public for all to see, I doubt very much he’ll treat my children very well either.
“What he is like in public was not something I wish to experience again, and behind closed doors I can only imagine that it was ten times worse. I dare say I left him for that very reason,”
she put to him, her thoughts on why she’d left that man and hidden herself away from him..

He let Marilyn state how she felt without interruption on his part, because he actually needed to know what she thought of the situation she now found herself in. So, that he could try and approach everything that needed to be done in the right way, not only for Calvin but for Marilyn, and both their sons as well.
Everyone was going to have to be taken into account, especially seeing as the twins would come into the knowledge that it was their own father that had attacked their mother, and put her in the hospital. Though that was a problem for later on down the track, when he could get to meet them himself, and hopefully they understood who Calvin was to them; their dad.
It was also something Calvin himself wasn’t going to like having to deal with, or talk his way out of. He could apologize all he liked to both the boys and to Marilyn, but those two boys had seen the state of their mother in the ICU, had been worried and upset about her condition, and they knew what the after??ffects of it were as well. They had to watch her manage it on a daily basis and knew exactly what she was going through, likely right down to all her medical appointments and restrictions. Because they saw it all with their own two eyes every day.
What Wil heard her state, that was pretty much exactly what he was expecting from her, where Calvin was concemed. She’d not once seen the side of Calvin, that Marrin had gotten during their three years of marriage, none of the man that was in love with Marrin, just the Marrin??bsessed, twisted version of him.
“I can see where you are coming from, after all that has happened, but there are, as we now know, extenuating circumstances for Calvin. Firstly, Marilyn, I was the one to handle your marriage contract and your divorce as well. I did not include the details of either of them in that package. I sent just the cover pages with everyone’s names on them. Because I believe it would be best to hear it from me personally. I was your friend and lawyer when you were Marrin,”
he explained to her, and they had gotten along all the time, or until the day the divorce papers had been served.
“I don’t recall that,”
she stated simply.
“I’m aware of that. I also know you don’t recall my wife, who you had lunch and coffee with all the time, you gave her one of your own books at our engagement party,”
he shook his head.
“Stated you knew Marilyn Riddley, went to college with her. My wife, Anabell, had that book signed a second time by you in New York at your first ever book signing. I sent her there on a trip, you’re her favourite author.”
Marilyn looked at him and frowned for a moment and then nodded.
“Ah, the engaged couple, who are now happily married.”
“That be the one, so again proof that I knew you prior to you changing your name. It’s good to see you in the flesh and know you’re okay. I, unlike Calvin, never believed you had just vanished, and that call you made to him was to tell him you weren’t on the plane, that you wouldn’t want to see him suffer that kind of guilt or grief. It’s not who you are.”
“Again, I don’t actually recall why I made the phone call, don’t recall making it, but I’ve heard the recording.”
She nodded.
He nodded as well,
“Your marriage to Calvin; let’s discuss that before anything else… it wasn’t what you would call traditional, there was no dating him or even an engagement. It was in fact just a contract marriage
CON 57 to make him seem like a family man… You agreed to marry Calvin Reeves for an undetermined amount of time, and be on his arm, as his loving, beautiful and Intelligent wife, and in return you got all the things that his wife would get. A beautiful house, a nice car and working hours that suited you, you had the option to work at the office or from home”
He pulled out their marriage contract and slid it across the table, for both her and her lawyer to read over. I’m certain that you, Liam would have seen or dealt with contractual marriages before,”
he stated.
“Not my department, but my wife would have, I suppose. He nodded.
He let them read through it and waited,
“As you can see, there are some very specific clauses in there about the marriage
“Wil stated and nearly smiled to himself. There was actually a clause in it about it being a real marriage and that they’d share a marital bed and have s*x, that both of them had the right to say no, if they weren’t in the mood and the other would respect it.
There was that no kissing on the mouth rule, no making a scene in public, that Marrin was considered to be
Calvin’s next of kin and he hers, and she could put that on all medical forms or things that required her to do so, and he would do the same. That she would have an unlimited credit card for purchases that she wanted to make. The house was there with a stipulation that it had an ocean view, and staff to maintain it, that she would get a car and have the freedom to work as she so chose, that Calvin would not hinder her job as a computer programmer in any way.
That Marrin was to attend galas and business functions as well as charity events and Calvin would provide all the clothing and jewellery of which she would keep when they got divorced. She’d have a key to his penthouse apartment, though not sleep there. That was his home, and hers was the house with an ocean view
There was an agreement that neither one would have an affair and, if asked, they should tell the other about their day and their lives.
“You didn’t tell Calvin anything about your writing career, and he never asked about it because he simply didn’t know you were doing that, kept that to yourself.”
Wil stated when they finished reading it.
