Chapter 46 – The Lingering Kiss of Farewell Novel

“No,”

she answered simply.

“May I inquire about her scars?”

he was curious about that himself. That was his other concern right that very minute. His theory on Marrin and that last phone call to Calvin. He’d honestly believed that Marrin had been in an accident and all those scars he’d seen on her now were indicative of that.

If he had been right and this was Marrin, and she had been in a serious accident all those years ago, she could well have amnesia. That scar down her temple indicated a head wound and, likely with all those other scars, a serious one at that.

He wanted to know now himself, when she’d gotten them, how she’d gotten them and was she in fact Marrin as well as Marilyn, it was completely possible in his mind now, that she was actually Marrin, even though Calvin now believed she wasn’t.

Though Wil was not going to tell Calvin his thoughts on the matter at hand, he’d already lost it, and Wil didn’t need him doing so again. It was best that he let him continue thinking she was not Marrin for now. Wil needed undeniable proof of his own theory before he could bring it up.

He’d told Calvin he’d vetted the woman, but he’d not done it the way Calvin would have. He’d just looked into Marilyn Riddley, the author, her online bio, how long she’d been writing and where it said she resided. That was all. When he’d seen she’d been writing for nearly two years before their divorce, he’d simply believed she wasn’t Marrin.

It was in all likelihood time to do a full and complete background check on the woman. Vet everything about her, but he could not tell Calvin at the same time. Because if she actually wasn’t Marrin, he couldn’t get the man’s hopes up or set off that obsession once more.

Wil saw the paramedics enter the stairwell and stated

“Please, if you could take her to ti Methodist Hospital, Mr Calvin Reeves will be paying for everything.

Juston

Calvin

He had personally called ahead, and spoke directly to the Hospital Director and told him that he was sending over a patient that needed emergency medical treatment, stating her name was Marilyn Riddley, and that he not only wanted her to have the best doctors/surgeons, but a full VIP suite for her recovery as well. That he would be the one paying for all her medical bills, and that he wanted her to have the best of everything.

He donated a lot of money to this hospital over the years and that new wing of theirs, where the VIP Suites were. He’d also helped out with the funding of that. He knew the hospital director, they were seen at charity events and other functions together all the time.

It was all he could do after what he’d done to the woman. Calvin may not have actually pushed her down those stairs but her falling down them. That was entirely his fault, and he did know that. He’d been completely shocked at not finding that strawberry birthmark of Marrin’s where he’d expected it to be, and just instantly let go of the woman as she’d struggled to make him let go.

Let go without any thought as to what would happen if and when he let go, while she was trying to make him let go. And she’d gone tumbling down the stairs, and she was now actually really injured, and in need of full medical attention. She was unconscious and likely had broken bones. There was definitely a head wound.

Many reporters had called out questions about what had happened to Marilyn when they’d seen him and Wil leaving the hotel, some yelling about whether he’d attacked her once again during the mediation! That they were all supposed to be in. He was seen as the bad guy already. None of them had even considered that she could have fallen all by herself. Because he was right there.

Wil had stated

And Calvin had known to keep his mouth closed all the way to Wil’s car and even when in it.

He’d wanted to tell Wil to take them directly to the hospital but couldn’t. Wil had already talked to that detective, and he was expecting them. He had also sent other officers to his home, office and the private airstrip to make sure he didn’t leave the state or country. He’d taken calls from the office security, and his penthouse doorman had just called him about officer’s there looking for him. It wouldn’t surprise him if they’d already contacted the public airports to give them his photo and try to keep him on the ground as well. They were moving very fast to contain him if he tried to flee.

He wasn’t going to leave, he had actually done something very wrong, and he now understood that. He would pay for all her medical bills and recovery as well. Though he had no idea of how long that would take, but seeing as it was clearly his fault, he would sort something out. an looked Detective Pullman was standing outside the front of the police station waiting for them, and 1 right at his watch as if to say he was actually counting the minutes, before issuing an arrest warrant for him. That man had an issue with him. What it was, Calvin didn’t know, but he understood that detective would have followed through.

Calvin allowed himself to be questioned. He didn’t get angry about any of it and gave his statement of what happened in that stairwell as well. Detective Pullman just sat and stared at him, after he relayed the event, and then he shook his head and stated

“So you have also now sexually assaulted Miss Riddley as well?”

“Harassed,”

Wil stated before Calvin could get any words out.

The detective looked right at Wil but said nothing, and Calvin knew why. He already knew that harassment and assault and bodily harm were all different things. They were three different things: assault didn’t mean even having to touch one, it came down to how the other person felt, did they have fear of their assailant.

Bodily harm was the act of physically touching one against another’s wishes, that followed the assault and was why it was always written as an assault causing grievous bodily harm. Harassment was what came before the assault even, him tracking her and demanding things of her that she didn’t want, before he laid hands upon her.

Calvin already knew this line of questioning was going to happen. Wil had told him it would. 7 guess you could say I did,”

Calvin admitted, because he was certain when or if Marilyn woke up, that would be her statement of the events that led to her fall.

“I was trying to see if she was Marrin, who has a birthmark on her left rib cage, that was all, I was not out to harm her or touch her inappropriately.”

He stated honestly.

“So just humiliate her instead,”

Detective Pullman stated with a nod,

“By making her expose her bare skin to a stranger, that she, from my recollection, doesn’t even know. Thinks of you as her stalker, I now believe. You forced her into a corner, in a place there would be no one to see what you did, and made her show you parts of her body against her will, that she had no reason to do at all. Right?”

“I guess you could say it like that, if you want to arrest me,”

Calvin stated right back. He’d twisted his words, because Marily had gone into that stairwell of her own accord, something Calvin had stated in his statement.

“So, Mr Reeves… did you find what you were looking for on her body? Is Marrin Reeves’ birthmark on Marilyn Riddley?”

the detective asked him.

“Don’t answer that Calvin. It’s a leading question,”

Wil stated.

The detective raised an eyebrow at Wil and half smiled,

“I’ll take that as a no then. But I’m certain when I question Miss Riddley, she’ll answer the question for me, even show me or the female officer that I’ll take with me to verify if there is or isn’t a birthmark on her left ribcage.”

“Now what exactly did Marrin’s birthmark look like?”

he was asked.

“Don’t answer that either,”

Wil stated.
