The Chief had already made his move. Aldwin was arrested, and Lilian, who had been involved in so many of his schemes, naturally couldn’t avoid facing the consequences. That was why Jared had provided Lilian’s information and personally brought the police to handle the arrest.

Initially, Jared thought the young officer looked inexperienced, and he offered a few pointers. What happened for the officer to ask that question?

Jared’s voice turned serious, his words measured.

“You said Lilian is injured and unconscious? Well, she could be fooling you, planning to make a run for it once you let your guard down.”

Jared had been on plenty of missions, and he knew all too well how someone like Lilian might act in such a situation.

“Double-check those handcuffs and make sure they’re properly secured. Stay sharp,” Jared advised the young police officer.

His tone was grave, with no hint of humor. The young police officer, eyes wide and curious, looked at him with skepticism, as if Jared were somehow peculiar.

“Mr. Cooper, I’ve already checked. Her injuries are real. See for yourself if you don’t believe me. Please, don’t underestimate my professional skills, okay?”

Jared met the officer’s gaze but said nothing. Instead, he got out of the car and approached Lilian to verify the situation himself.

With a soft “whoosh,” the car door opened, and Jared expected to see the same arrogance from Lilian he had witnessed when handing her over to Nola. But as he saw her, eyes closed and clearly writhing in pain, he was taken aback.

Jared had seen Nola’s place in the Perkins family, her timid demeanor, and how she had been pushed far beyond her limits by dealing with Lilian. But how had Lilian ended up like this under her watch?

In that moment, Jared’s mind raced through everything—from his first meeting with Nola to the smallest details of their interactions. He suddenly had the unsettling feeling that something was off.

The young police officer, standing beside Jared, gestured to the handcuffs.

“Mr. Cooper, see? Just because I’m young and inexperienced doesn’t mean I can’t do my job!”

Distracted by his thoughts, Jared gave a distracted nod before dismissing the young officer, his mind already elsewhere.

As Lilian was escorted into the police station, Jared immediately found Isabella and shared his discoveries.

“Boss, with Nola’s personality, there’s no way Lilian could have ended up so badly injured in her care. I only noticed this issue because I went to arrest Lilian with the police. I think Nola…”

Jared’s words trailed off, leaving the sentence unfinished. Isabella, sharp as always, finished for him.

“You think Nola’s personality was a facade?”

Jared nodded, his expression serious.

“Honestly, surviving in the Perkins family’s environment, it wouldn’t be surprising if she was pretending. But now, I’m concerned—could she be involved in the Perkins family’s activities? Could she be another ‘Lilian’?”

Isabella’s brow furrowed.

“I see your point. It’s worth looking into. I’ll have the Welch family investigate Nola further. Once we’re sure, we can wrap up everything with the Perkins family and head back.”

“Okay.”

After Jared left, Isabella immediately contacted Healy, asking him to help with the investigation into Nola. Just then, Andrew called.

“Baby, I miss you so much…”

Andrew’s deep, warm voice came through as soon as the call connected.

“Did you miss me today?”

The playful hint in his tone made Isabella raise an eyebrow.

“Yes, honey, I missed you too. Not just today, but yesterday, the day before… I’ve been missing you. Are you done with work today? You sound like you’re in a good mood.”

Standing in front of the floor-to-ceiling window in the hotel, Andrew chuckled softly, his phone held in one hand.

“You know me so well, baby. I’m almost done here. Wait two more days, and I’ll be back.”

“Okay.”

Isabella calculated the time in her head. It seemed she’d arrive in Ansport around the time Andrew returned.

“I’ll pick you up at the airport. That way, you’ll see me the moment you step off the plane.” As she spoke, a gleam of excitement lit up Isabella’s eyes.

Andrew looked at Isabella’s eyes on the screen and felt his heart melt.

“When I land, I’ll come straight to you,” Andrew said, his voice brimming with excitement.

“And if I can’t find you right away, I’ll camp out at the airport until I do.”

Though this childlike enthusiasm was unusual for Andrew, Isabella couldn’t help but find it utterly endearing.

“I mean every word,” he vowed softly.

“Just wait and see, darling.”

The Perkins family’s carefully constructed facade crumbled as their criminal empire lay exposed. Years of shadowy dealings and illicit businesses came to light, extinguishing their once-mighty reign over Estresa. Yet, from the ashes of their downfall, Perkins Group endured, though its shares now rested in the hands of an enigmatic figure known only as Janna.

This mysterious new chairwoman, whose face remained unknown to all, had seized control through majority shareholding and strategic capital injection.

In downtown Estresa, where life pulsed through the crowded streets, Jared watched Nola approach. He extended an elegantly wrapped gift bag toward her with quiet grace.

“Here’s to new beginnings.”

“Thank you,” Nola murmured, accepting the gift. Her fingers played absently with the bag’s handle as joy flickered in her eyes.

They walked in companionable silence until the street lamps ahead flickered to life at the intersection, bringing them both to a halt.

“I have a flight to catch at one this afternoon,” Jared announced suddenly, his hands tucked into his pockets.

Nola’s expression froze, her hopes shattering like delicate glass. As the traffic light’s countdown ticked to ten seconds, she whispered, “Can’t you stay just a little longer? I don’t even know when I’ll see you again.”

A gentle breeze swept through, lifting Nola’s hair from her face and revealing the delicate arch of her eyebrows and the depths of her eyes. For the first time, Jared truly saw Nola with perfect clarity.

“You don’t know when?” he asked, his tone knowing.

“Lilian may have fallen, but her partnership with Homelight Enterprise continues. That mysterious investor, Janna—that’s you, isn’t it, Nola?”

The traffic light’s final second faded to darkness as Jared stood motionless, his gaze fixed ahead.

Nola studied his chiseled jawline before breaking the silence.

“When did you find out?”

“Just these past couple of days,” Jared replied casually, scuffing his shoe against imaginary pebbles on the pavement.

A smile played across Nola’s lips.

“You knew my identity and still came to see me? Even brought me a gift?”

Jared turned to face her, remembering Healy’s reports that painted Janna as ruthless—though her steel was reserved only for those entangled with the Perkins family.

His dark eyes traced the curve of her smile before he spoke, choosing his words carefully.

“I wanted to ask you something. When the Fisherman’s Cove project is complete, would you join me in Ansport for the ribbon-cutting ceremony?”

He had no interest in questioning her past deceptions—they seemed trivial now. What mattered was her choice moving forward, now that her true identity lay exposed.

Nola held his gaze for a long moment before gesturing toward the newly green traffic light.

“Look, it’s green again. We should hurry across.”

At Ansport Airport, Isabella clutched a fresh bouquet, having driven there in the early morning hours.
