Jared, who thought of himself as diligent and conscientious, had been managing most of Homelight Enterprise’s affairs alone. He even felt a bit full of himself, thinking he was more than capable, occasionally needing Isabella to double-check things, like to avoid mistakes. Yet, she used this moment to push him further.
Coincidentally, Isabella had a Fisher Bay in her virtual investments, and the place they were visiting on their business trip today was another “Fisher Bay.”
A week ago, the marketing department of Homelight Enterprise had noticed a survey team visiting Fisherman’s Bay in the northeast of a neighboring state. Meanwhile, the Klein Group had already made a move.
Homelight Enterprise was strong, and they didn’t mind getting even stronger by following the trend. But this seemed like a project that required a massive investment, often running into billions. Jared didn’t dare to make such a decision alone, so he’d brought Isabella along on this trip.
The virtual world was different from the real one. A mistake in the real world could result in irreversible loss. Isabella watched as Jared babbled on, which didn’t match his usual composed and stable image as Mr. Cooper in public.
Resigned, she said, “If you really want to know, I’ll just tell you. There’s no need to act like this.”

Jared immediately stopped complaining, switching his expression in a heartbeat.
“Okay, Boss, please tell me.”
Isabella rolled her eyes internally.
Why did she feel like she’d been tricked by Jared?
But having promised to tell him, she didn’t hold back.
“I still plan to develop Fisher Bay into a port. But before that, I need to acquire the area a few kilometers away from it to build an industrial park. The industrial park will connect with the port, giving us pricing power in the virtual market. With such huge profits, I won’t need to seek out government officials. They’ll approach me themselves. Then, I’ll own two major assets, and by the time others catch on, it’ll already be too late.”
Jared was stunned. After hearing Isabella’s plan, he whispered, “Boss, you must have been planning this all along, right? Pulling the wool over everyone’s eyes at every step—that’s impressive. The others at the NCI project play by the rules, but you’re rewriting them yourself, and even trying to manipulate the government.”
Isabella smiled faintly.
“I just see more than others. It’s not that big of a deal. But some variables are beyond my prediction, like Lilian. Luckily, the overall direction is right.”
Jared couldn’t deny that he was a little jealous of Isabella’s brilliance. But then, he thought to himself that he wasn’t as skilled in fighting as Isabella either and let the jealousy go.
If Isabella weren’t so impressive, why would he ever accept her as his boss? It was natural for the boss to be more capable than the subordinates.
Jared looked at Isabella, who stood as composed and elegant as the first time they’d met. A sense of respect and self-satisfaction filled his heart.
He comforted himself inwardly, thinking becoming the subordinate of someone as powerful as Isabella was, in fact, a form of strength in itself.
On the top floor of the Klein Group building, Andrew was on the phone.
Once the person on the other end finished briefing him, he asked, “Mr. Klein, Miss Patton and Mr. Cooper of Homelight Enterprise seem very close. Should I investigate?”
“No need.” Andrew dismissed the suggestion without a second thought.
“Just finish your work. Don’t get involved in anything else.”
“Yes, sir.”
After hanging up, Andrew lowered his eyes to the files on his desk. Isabella had mentioned she was going on a business trip, so he hadn’t pushed for details, assuming it was related to the Patton Group. But his people had reported the truth.
Andrew propped his chin up with both hands, his dark eyes thoughtful and distant.
He had noticed long ago how close Isabella and Jared seemed, as though they’d known each other forever. But Isabella had only just arrived in Ansport back then.
Homelight Enterprise was growing rapidly in Ansport, with a solid financial foundation. Andrew had long been aware of Jared’s background—his life was normal, with no apparent reason why he would’ve crossed paths with Isabella.
Andrew felt he was missing something. But since Isabella hadn’t told him, he wouldn’t resort to investigating further. However, if Jared ever did anything to harm Isabella, Andrew would make sure he paid the price.
Just as his thoughts wandered, Isabella’s call came.
“Baby, are you done with work?”
The video call connected, and Andrew noticed the background behind Isabella—she was in a hotel.
“Yeah,” Isabella nodded.
“I’ve been running around all day. I’m exhausted. Now I’m just resting, so I want to know what you’re up to.”
The coldness in Andrew’s handsome features softened into something tender.
“I’ve been working all day today.” Andrew’s voice sounded a little worn as he replied to Isabella.
“Anything besides work?”
“I had dinner with a partner.”
“Nothing else?” Isabella asked, sensing that Andrew had been pushing himself too hard today.
“Well, there’s something else.” Andrew’s eyes softened as he looked at the lively, beautiful Isabella on the screen, his voice dropping low.
“While we’re on this call, I can’t help but think about you.”
Work, dinner, and then thoughts about her. Although Andrew didn’t utter any grand, poetic words, the sentiment still managed to tug at Isabella’s heart.
She pressed her hand gently to her chest, her eyes lingering on him in the video as she spoke softly, “I have a few things left to take care of. I’ll be back tomorrow.”
“Okay, I’ll wait for you.”
After a few more exchanged words, the call ended. Isabella stood from the sofa and asked Jared to change her flight to the earliest one the next morning.
“Didn’t you say you’d finish everything tomorrow? Why are you going now?” Jared, ever compliant, quickly rearranged her flight while trailing her out of the hotel.
“I want to finish things quickly and go back early.”
Jared, driving, glanced over and asked, “Is something going on in Ansport?”
Isabella thought for a moment, then replied, “It’s something very important to me.”
Jared shot a glance at her, sensing something in her tone, and after a brief pause, he suddenly understood.
“Boss, don’t tell me it’s because of Andrew.”
“Yes,” Isabella responded plainly.
“Oh well! Boss, you’re terrible. Even on a business trip, you’re still showing off your love with him.”
Jared’s lips twitched, but he quickly shifted his focus, rattling off everything that still needed to be done. They wrapped things up efficiently. The next day, after landing, Jared dropped Isabella at the villa she shared with Andrew, then drove away without a second glance.
Isabella watched his car drive off, shaking her head in amusement.
She approached the villa, scanned her fingerprint, and entered.
It was a little past five in the morning, the sky just beginning to lighten. Isabella walked quietly into the bedroom.
Andrew lay asleep in bed. Isabella’s gaze softened as it rested on his peaceful, angelic face, tracing the lines of his features.
With his eyes closed, Andrew looked more serene, softer, than when he was awake.
At that moment, Isabella couldn’t resist taking her phone out to capture a picture of him.
But just as she slipped her phone back into her pocket, her eyes met Andrew’s—his dark eyes wide open.
He was awake?
Before Isabella could say anything, he reached for her hand.
Without thinking, she placed hers in his, and in one fluid motion, he pulled her into his embrace, closing his eyes again.
