“It’s so early. Do you think she’s even awake yet?”
“Maybe she’s having breakfast?”
As the audience waited, the door creaked open with a “click,” and Milly appeared, only half of her visible on camera.
“Wow, Milly’s in pajamas and an eye mask! Her black pajamas look gorgeous; the fabric drapes so beautifully!”
“She’s not wearing makeup? Her face is so tiny, and her features are so stunning!”
The live chat exploded with comments.
Milly had woken up right after Howard left. She’d skipped the makeup and fancy clothes, aiming for an authentic, relatable appearance on the live broadcast.
The production crew had arrived early to capture the unfiltered, everyday life of a celebrity.
Milly, ever the professional, had no qualms about appearing on camera without makeup. After all, her face was stunning enough without it.
The filming director was pleased with the audience’s reaction.
“Milly, do you live here alone? Would you give us a tour?”
“Of course.”
Milly led the camera crew on a quick tour of the apartment, followed by a brief tidying up.
Meanwhile, in the stairwell lounge, Howard watched Milly’s live broadcast on his phone. Not only was Milly’s stream visible, but also the live broadcasts of the other participants of the reality show, including Watkins and Evie.
Howard switched to Evie’s live broadcast for a moment.
Evie had agreed to join the show because Howard was concerned about Milly being alone. Without an assistant, Milly could face difficulties in managing any interpersonal issues during filming, so he had asked Evie to join the show.
He trusted Evie to look out for Milly, and since the show was popular, Evie had agreed without hesitation.
Howard stayed in the stairwell lounge until Milly left with the production crew.
In a van, Milly held the list of questions handed to her by the show’s production team for the Q&A session. These questions were carefully selected from fan messages, meant to keep the car ride from feeling too dull. It also happened to be the final segment of the live broadcast. After she answered the last question, the director glanced over at the live broadcast room.
“And that’s a wrap for today’s live broadcast—see you next time!”
As a flurry of farewell messages flooded the screen, Howard turned off his phone, finished the last bite of his toast, and headed off to work.
A few hours later, the plane touched down.
Milly and the production team arrived at their first filming location—a stunning riverside mansion.
As Milly exited the car, Watkins and Evie arrived as well.
“Hi, Milly, great to see you again!” Watkins hopped out of the car and waved at Milly. Noticing she was about to grab her luggage from the trunk, he rushed over.
“Let me do it.”
“I’ll help Milly!” A sweet voice chimed from behind Watkins, and Evie jogged over to take Milly’s suitcase.
“Milly, Watkins, good afternoon.”
Evie turned to Watkins, her smile warm and friendly. She knew very well how difficult her task would be!
Howard had personally asked her to join the show, mentioning that Milly wasn’t skilled at managing relationships.
In Evie’s mind, Howard wasn’t concerned about Milly’s ability to manage relationships—he was worried that Milly might develop feelings for Watkins, especially with so many fans fantasizing about the chemistry between them lately.
Having witnessed her brother’s jealousy over the interactions between her and her future sister-in-law, Evie knew just how petty these men could be. Even if Milly and Watkins’s bond was fake, Howard would still feel threatened.
Without a second thought, she grabbed Milly’s suitcase and put it on the ground.
Watkins was taken aback by Evie’s sudden move.
“Evie, if you’re taking Milly’s suitcase, what about your own?”
Evie glanced at her own suitcase, realizing she’d been so focused on stopping Watkins from getting too close to—
Milly realized that she had forgotten to grab her suitcase. Fortunately, the staff had already pulled it from the car for her.
She felt a bit embarrassed and was about to offer an excuse when Milly spoke softly.
“Thank you. I’ll take yours.”
They swapped suitcases, and Watkins trailed behind them into the villa, feeling like he was being ostracized.
But that couldn’t be right, could it? They were all from the same company and had never had any issues before.
As Watkins watched Evie laughing and chatting with Milly, he couldn’t help but relax, his brow slowly smoothing out.
Maybe Milly and Evie were just closer than she was with him.
Two other participants of the show were already in the villa, and the five of them chatted for a bit. When the final two showed up, the director began to explain the day’s recording.
“As the director, I’d like to welcome everyone. Now, we’re about to embark on a week-long adventure.”
At the director’s signal, Milly and the other participants gathered around a table to draw lots.
“It’s four in the afternoon now, and I’m sure everyone’s feeling the effects of travel. So, for the first game, you have two hours to complete your tasks. Based on how well you finish, you’ll be rewarded with food. Whether or not tonight’s dinner will be a feast depends on your effort.”
The director wrapped up his instructions and signaled for the participants to check their tasks.
Milly had done her homework before coming and wasn’t thrown off by the sudden “game.”
Watkins stood next to her, his brow furrowed as he read his task.
“Using the changing shadow of the sun to create a simple sundial to tell time. The villa will provide some tools. Oh my gosh, this is too hard. What’s yours, Milly?”
Watkins had just wrapped up a project with Milly, so among the participants, she was the one he was most familiar with. Fans in the live broadcast room immediately buzzed with excitement at the sight of him interacting with Milly, eager to know what task she had drawn. Since the completion of the tasks was tied to dinner, everyone revealed their tasks aloud.
Milly did the same.
“Using traditional local techniques for salt extraction to refine edible salt from a bucket of water in the villa’s living room.”
“Well…”
As the participants read their tasks, they turned to the director with complaints.
“Why’s it so hard right from the start?”
The director smiled at their troubled faces and encouraged them, “Feel free to team up and tackle these tasks together. I wish you all a lavish dinner tonight!”
The phones of the participants were confiscated, and the villa was completely devoid of any food. To earn a meal, they had to complete their designated tasks.
Milly glanced at her task card and, without a word, immediately began working.
Seeing her take action, the other participants followed suit. Evie’s task was to follow steps to construct a basic 3D projector using plastic sheets, which was simpler.
Finding Milly, Evie said, “Milly, I’ll help you as soon as I’m done with mine.”
After speaking, she dashed over to the toolbox to gather the necessary materials and tools.
Making a 3D projector was something Evie had done as a child, so it was pretty easy for her. The production team had set up many experimental tasks because the city they were in was a well-known hub for science and technology.
The 3D projector worked by assembling trapezoidal plastic pieces into a three-dimensional form. When placed over a 2D animation, it brought the content to life in 3D.
