“Ailyn Vettel, it’s time to set your prejudices aside and reassess Miss Patton. She may be your father’s only hope!” His tone echoed the reprimands of Ailyn’s father, sending a chill down her spine.

Catching the stern looks from the elders, she recognized their displeasure with her attitude.

Memories of her father, ill and vulnerable in bed, brought a moment of clarity to her agitated mind.

The elder continued, “Miss Patton is indeed Dr. Mia. Consider this; Mr. Klein wouldn’t have brought her if she wasn’t.”

Shock widened Ailyn’s eyes. Besides her, the elders present were the ones most desperate to secure Dr. Mia’s expertise.

Their conviction was surely grounded in something substantial.

Was Isabella actually Dr. Mia?

As this possibility dawned on Ailyn, her hands shook while she watched Andrew and Isabella, both looking resolute to leave. It struck her just how severe her error had been.

If they walked out now, she might lose any chance of contacting Dr. Mia again.

Panic surged within Ailyn, her pulse quickening. On her own initiative, she stepped in front of Isabella, desperation clear in her widened eyes. “I’m truly sorry, Dr. Mia…”

Her voice was laden with urgency; previous contempt for Isabella faded in light of her realization of Isabella’s identity as Dr. Mia.

“I was blind to your true value. Please, I implore you to consider treating my father. No matter the cost, I am willing to pay it.”

Isabella was already intent on leaving with Andrew, having been left with a bitter taste by Ailyn’s earlier behavior. “I’m afraid I—“

Before Isabella could decline, Ailyn took a dramatic step. “Dr. Mia, my behavior earlier was inexcusable. Please accept my deepest apologies,” she said, and shockingly, she struck herself across the face. The sound echoed sharply, causing Isabella to wince.

“Please, Dr. Mia, overlook my past foolishness and help.”

The echo of the slap resonated down the hallway, drawing the elders closer to Isabella.

“Dr. Mia, we’ve prepared a collaborative project with the Klein Group, and we’re ready to meet your usual fees. Moreover, we know you’ve been seeking the Liliuma fruit. While this plant is extinct elsewhere, our family possesses the last known one. We’d be willing to provide it as part of our agreement.”

“Dr. Mia, we earnestly request your expertise…”

When Isabella decided to leave with Andrew earlier, she had already had no intention of making a deal with these people. But the mention of “Liliuma” sparked a visible reaction.

The plant, detailed in her mentor’s medical manual, had evaded her for years. She hadn’t expected these people to have it.

Andrew, observing closely, was the first to perceive the shift in Isabella’s demeanor.

Andrew wasn’t sure of Isabella’s decision, but he knew one thing for sure—he would stand by her, no matter what.

Isabella’s impression of Ailyn had been shaped by their earlier confrontations, leaving her convinced that Ailyn was someone hard to get along with.

But everything shifted when Ailyn discovered she was Dr. Mia. Overwhelmed by regret, Ailyn apologized again and again. She went as far as to slap herself repeatedly, refusing to stop until Isabella accepted her apology.

Isabella’s gaze softened. This raw display of remorse was unexpected, and for the first time, she saw Ailyn in a new light.

As the heiress of the prominent Vettel family, Ailyn had always carried an air of arrogance, but she also possessed a clear understanding of the pros and cons of any situation.

Isabella realized that someone like Ailyn wasn’t to be taken lightly. And with getting the Liliuma being her late mentor’s final wish, she knew she couldn’t walk away now.

After a pause, Isabella’s voice cut through the tension. “Mr. Vettel, you don’t have to do this.”

Ailyn froze, her hand mid-motion, her cheeks red from her self-inflicted slaps. Tears pooled in her eyes, but she held them back, her pride refusing to let them fall.

“Dr. Mia,” she whispered, her voice breaking. “I don’t know how else to show you how sorry I am. Please… tell me what to do.”

Isabella’s decision to stay instead of leaving gave Ailyn a flicker of hope. It was at that moment that Ailyn realized just how kind and forgiving Isabella truly was. Ailyn knew she had to show she was worthy of forgiveness. If she failed, her father’s life would remain at risk.

Taking a deep breath, Ailyn turned toward Andrew. “Mr. Klein,” she began, her voice steady but filled with emotion, “thank you for arranging this. I know my actions today have caused unnecessary trouble, and I deeply regret it. Please give me the opportunity to make things right. I promise—I won’t let you down.”

Andrew stared at Ailyn, his expression unyielding, unaffected by the tears streaming down her face. “You’re not sorry,” he said, his voice sharp. “You’re just afraid your father might die.”

Ailyn was struck silent, not knowing what to say. Behind her, the elders exchanged fleeting glances. One of them stepped forward, his tone smooth and calculated. “Mr. Klein, Ailyn’s remorse and her wish to save her father aren’t conflicting motives. We genuinely hope to foster cooperation here. Perhaps we can all sit down and talk?”

Andrew’s eyes narrowed, a cold, calculating glint flashing in them.

The man hurried to add, “Mr. Klein, as we mentioned before, we will work with a Lorpond enterprise on the Reed Project. We deeply regret any offense caused to Dr. Mia today and are willing to offer 20% of the project’s profits as an apology. We hope this gesture will mend any discord.”

These people assumed that, no matter how capable Isabella was, the women from Lorpond would always defer to their partners.

If Andrew was appeased, they believed Dr. Mia would naturally follow suit.

Andrew’s lips curled into a mocking smile as he saw through their thoughts. “Isn’t the profit supposed to go to Dr. Mia? Why are you asking me?”

The hallway fell into an awkward silence as the group scrambled to redirect their focus. All eyes turned to Isabella, their earlier confidence shaken.

Isabella had heard of the project before, and the 20% offer was indeed generous. After a brief pause, she decided to end the suspense. “I can see the sincerity of the Vettel family,” she said. “In that case, let’s sit down and work out the details of this cooperation.”

The group walked into the private room, and this time, all eyes were fixed on Isabella.

At that moment, she became the undeniable focus of the room.

Once the cooperation was finalized, Isabella and Andrew left, stepping into a sleek Rolls-Royce. Ailyn and her group remained behind, standing silently by the roadside, watching the car disappear into the distance.

“Who would’ve thought that Dr. Mia, the mysterious figure everyone’s been so curious about, would be such a young woman? She’s truly a genius,” one of the elders murmured, unable to hide his astonishment.

The group’s gaze shifted to Ailyn, who stood quietly in the center. They didn’t quite know how to address her. Earlier, in the hallway, Ailyn had repeatedly offended Dr. Mia, nearly ruining the entire cooperation. The group had been deeply disappointed in her.

Yet, when things seemed beyond repair, it was Ailyn who stepped forward, offered her apologies, and slowly turned the situation around, leading to a successful outcome.

One of the elders spoke up. “Ailyn, the journey to Lorpond to find Dr. Mia wasn’t easy, but you did well. What matters now is your father’s health. Dr. Mia may be young, but her composure speaks volumes. We hope you’ll learn from this experience and continue to represent the Vettel family with distinction.”

Ailyn met his gaze and nodded solemnly. “I understand. From now on, my focus will be entirely on my father’s recovery.”

The elder nodded approvingly. “That’s the right mindset.”

They returned to the hotel, where Ailyn reported the current situation to the family and ensured everything was in order.

When everything was settled, Ailyn walked into her bathroom. She stood at the sink, staring into the mirror. The reflection staring back at her was haunting. Her face, normally flawless, bore angry red marks from her self-inflicted slaps. They were stark against her pale skin.

The medicine Nathan had brought still lay untouched on the table. Ailyn hadn’t bothered to apply it. She wanted to keep the marks as a reminder of the consequences of her impulsive actions.

“Isabella,” Ailyn whispered softly.

Isabella was no less capable than her, yet Isabella was more understated in her approach. Ailyn, who always prided herself on being superior to her peers, found her self-assessment shaken after encountering Isabella.

Behind Ailyn, Nathan maintained his silence. Turning to him, she asked, “How do you think I compare to Isabella?” Nathan seemed reluctant to answer.

The contrast in Isabella’s demeanor before and after her identity as Dr. Mia was revealed was striking. After it was revealed, it didn’t bring any relief; instead, it made one’s heart race. Instinctively, he felt an intangible sense of dread.

Ailyn’s eyes remained fixed on Nathan, anticipating his response.

After a moment, he said, “Miss Vettel, honestly, after Dr. Mia cures your father, if I were you, I’d avoid any further dealings with her.”

Silence once again enveloped the room. Moments later, Ailyn turned away from the mirror, looked at Nathan, and said, “You see, that’s why you can only be my subordinate. Dr. Mia possesses extensive influence that could yield endless benefits if properly leveraged. Now, please assist me with this ointment.”

“Certainly.”

Outside a restaurant, a Rolls-Royce came to a halt, and Isabella, alongside Andrew, stepped out of the car. Feeling quite hungry after the negotiations, Isabella was looking forward to a satisfying meal.

Seated at their table, as dish after dish was served, Andrew turned to Isabella and said, “This time, when you head to Mafelen, I’m coming along.”

Understanding his concern, Isabella responded with a warm smile, “That sounds lovely. It would be hard to manage without seeing you for that long.” Her statement visibly brightened Andrew’s mood.

Isabella had assumed she wouldn’t have any further interactions with Ailyn before reaching Mafelen, yet Ailyn persisted in reaching out to her.
