“Since you know, why did you still dare to treat her like this?” Dane’s voice was deep and firm, carrying weight.

Susan bit her lower lip, feeling aggrieved. She had only been standing up for everyone, doing what she thought was right. Why was she being reprimanded?

She was filled with righteous indignation, thinking she was not the only perfumer who had suffered from Jessica’s bullying. Wasn’t everyone happy and relieved just now because of what she had done?

Susan knew that everyone had long been dissatisfied with Jessica. But would this incident really affect the relationship between the two countries?

When Jessica heard Dane’s words, her complacency resurfaced, and she became arrogant again. After all, someone was on her side now. “Mr. Patton, eliminate this woman and continue the competition. I’ll pretend this matter never happened. But she should be banned from joining any competitions in the future.”

However, Dane didn’t seem to hear her. His attention was focused on Susan. “Jessica will be handled by the king of Aswil. Do you understand?”

Susan was taken aback, confusion written all over her face. What did Dane mean?

Jessica was also confused. Before she could ask, Dane spoke again. “Send Princess Jessica back to her country. The king wants to see her personally.”

His words sent a chill down her spine. Why would her father want to see her? Didn’t he make it clear that he disliked her so much that he didn’t want to see her?

Some bodyguards immediately stepped forward and pulled Jessica up. She protested weakly, “I can’t just leave. The competition is not finished yet. I’ll go back later.”

However, Dane said firmly, “Princess Jessica, there’s no need for you to compete anymore. Your father has arranged a politically advantageous marriage for you. You’re to be wed to the king of Satele.”

This revelation shocked the crowd, making them stand in stunned silence. The king of Satele? Satele was a country that was perpetually at war.

The king was in his fifties and was known for his brutality and tyrannical rule, which had plunged the country into chaos. His previous wives had all died tragically.

If Jessica went there and married a king with such a dark history, it would be a one-way ticket to despair. However, no one from the crowd sympathized with her. For them, a wicked woman like her deserved such a fitting end.

Jessica’s legs gave in again. But this time, she was caught by the bodyguards. She looked ahead with hollow eyes, and her body trembled uncontrollably. As the reality of her impending marriage to a king known for brutality loomed over her, she was determined not to go to Satele.

She didn’t understand why her father had suddenly decided to send her to that place and marry the king.

“Mr. Patton, please. I don’t want to go there,” Jessica pleaded desperately.

“I’m sorry. This is not my decision,” Dane said. He looked at the bodyguards and ordered, “Send Princess Jessica back.”

The bodyguards immediately complied and took Jessica away. Whispers of relief spread through the crowd as they watched her being led away.

“Fortunately, Mr. Patton’s timing was perfect. Jessica took advantage of her status to bully many people. She deserves such punishment from the king.”

“Yes, she obviously bullied Susan just now.”

“It’s such a relief that Jessica won’t be able to bully anyone from now on.”

Susan was relieved to see that everyone was very happy. She looked at Dane with a gentle smile and asked, “Why are you here?”

“I’m one of the investors in this competition,” Dane replied, pushing his gold-rimmed glasses up the bridge of his nose, making him look more gentle and elegant.

“Oh, I see. I didn’t know.”

Dane just smiled and said, “Since everyone has finished competing, you all take a good rest and prepare for the finals tonight.”

Everyone nodded and left one after another. As they walked away, their conversations still centered on Jessica. They also thought of Jada.

“Wait! Isn’t Susan Jada’s sister? How could she just watch her sister being bullied? Isn’t she too heartless?”

“Don’t you know? Susan and Jada don’t have a good relationship. Jada is the daughter of Susan’s stepmother.”

“Oh, that’s why. It turns out that Jada’s status is similar to Jessica’s. No wonder she didn’t help Susan just now.”

These perfumers were discussing without knowing that Jada was just behind them. Her face flushed with anger when she overheard their gossip.

Jada was furious. Her status was similar to Jessica’s? What utter nonsense were these people spouting? Her mother was the rightful matriarch of the Riggs family!

Jada finally realized that Isabella and Susan had never truly severed ties. They were still thick as thieves, and Isabella’s earlier words had clearly been a calculated ploy to drag her into this tangled mess!

This deceitful woman had pretended to befriend her while secretly consorting with Susan. She was a master of duplicity, a treacherous, two-faced woman.

Jada’s gaze grew icy, a flicker of malice gleaming in her eyes, as she conveniently forgot her own past schemes against Isabella.

Meanwhile, Isabella and Susan had already retreated to their room to rest. After some time, Dane informed them that the waiter behind the drugging had been caught and handed over to the police. Justice had been served.

That day, Dane didn’t go home; instead, he stayed at the competition’s office. His thoughts were interrupted by a sudden knock on the door. Assuming it was Susan, he called out, “Come in.” But it was Jada who stepped in.

Dane’s expression was cold. “What do you want?”

Jada, draped in a flowing white gown that exuded elegance, sat gracefully across from him, her eyes soft and seemingly warm. “Hello, Mr. Patton. I’m Susan’s sister. It’s a pleasure to finally meet you.”

“We’re in the middle of a competition. Get to the point,” Dane said, his voice edged with impatience, a flicker of irritation flashing in his eyes.

“Mr. Patton, do you truly love my sister?” Jada asked, her wide eyes shimmering with unshed tears, her voice trembling with innocence.

Dane’s response was blunt and cold. “Get to the point.”

His presence was as intimidating as ever, radiating an unapproachable air, making it clear he was as difficult to deal with as Andrew.

Jada knew she was walking a fine line. “I can tell you really care for my sister, but… are you aware she’s hiding something?” Jada said, deliberately keeping Dane guessing.

“Spare me the games. I don’t have time for this,” Dane snapped, his voice cold and dripping with disdain.

A wave of frustration washed over Jada. Once adored by everyone, she was now met with scorn at every turn. “Did my sister say something to you, Mr. Patton? Is that why you seem to despise me? Our relationship was actually quite good…”

“Leave,” Dane commanded, his tone sharp and final.

Jada’s expression faltered. She wanted to say more, but the icy, disdainful glare in his eyes stopped her cold. She knew that pressing the issue any further would only fuel his disdain, so she reluctantly conceded.

The moment the office door clicked shut behind her, the soft facade she wore slipped away, replaced by a steely resolve. This man was proving to be far more difficult than she’d anticipated. But if he refused to listen to her, then he’d better brace himself—soon enough, she’d ensure he was humiliated in front of everyone!

Jada left, humming contentedly, already anticipating the evening ahead.

As the day faded into dusk, Isabella and Susan had dinner outside and soon received the list of finalists. Both Susan and Jada had made it to the finals.

The final round was scheduled to start at 7 PM, with all contestants assembled in the hall, while the audience began to fill the seats in the back. Isabella settled into her seat, her phone buzzing to life with a message from Andrew.

“When does the competition end?”

She typed back, “Not sure yet; the final round is just starting.”

“Welcome to the national perfume-making competition finals! Our final round is about to begin. First, let me introduce our esteemed finalists…” The host’s voice resonated through the hall.

Isabella tucked her phone away, shifting her attention to the stage.

Ten finalists stood poised. Their challenge was to identify the ingredients of a given perfume through the delicate art of smell. The more accurate their guesses, the higher their score. It would be a true testament to a perfumer’s prowess. The air buzzed with anticipation.

The ten contestants sat in a neat row, each having an identical bottle of perfume before them, with paper and pens neatly arranged at their fingertips. They had two hours to prove their skills.

As Susan prepared for her challenge, Jada occupied a seat right next to her.

Susan concentrated fiercely, her pen darting across the paper. Jada cast a quick glance over, unable to restrain her curiosity, and noted how swiftly Susan had filled her sheet. A smirk curled at her lips; this woman was almost comical. The perfume was a complex blend of over ten distinct ingredients, demanding a meticulous smell to discern each one. Yet, after only a few sniffs, Susan had already filled her paper with a flurry of notes. It was likely all nonsense.

Jada felt a surge of confidence, certain that the championship was destined for her.

The two hours slipped by in a swirl of anticipation and tension. When the time was up, the host moved before the contestants, collecting their papers and pens with practiced ease.

The host announced, “We will now pass everyone’s papers to the judges for scoring.”

The evaluation was swift, simply comparing the contestants’ answers with the correct ones. In the meantime, the audience buzzed with predictions about who would win the championship. Many believed Jada would take the title.

“Out of all the contestants, Jada has the most impressive credentials. She graduated from a prestigious college in Mafelen, known globally!” a spectator commented.
