With this realization, Isabella replied, “I’m not going.”

“What? Are you sure?”

Isabella was even more confused. Jada sounded very surprised. Her brows furrowing, she wondered if there was anything significant tomorrow.

So, she asked, “Why? What’s the occasion tomorrow?”

Jada replied, “Nothing. I just thought you would go. Never mind.”

Isabella hung up the phone but found herself staring at the screen for a while. She couldn’t shake off the feeling that something was off.

Was there a family gathering tomorrow?

She immediately sent Andrew a message. “Is there an event at your grandpa’s place tomorrow night?”

Andrew quickly replied, “No. It’s just a family gathering.”

Isabella was relieved. “Okay. So, can we go there at noon instead?”

But as soon as she sent this message, she remembered Susan needed to leave for the competition at noon.

So, she quickly sent Andrew another message. “Sorry, the day after tomorrow, I mean. We can spend the whole day there the day after tomorrow.”

“Sure, no problem. You go ahead with your work.”

Isabella smiled at his reply and prepared to get back to work. When she turned on her computer again, she saw Tatiana starting a live stream.

As she stood in front of the camera, Tatiana’s face looked very haggard and worn. It was as if she had become a different person.

However, Isabella knew this was only Tatiana’s way of gaining everyone’s sympathy.

She could clearly tell that Tatiana’s pale face was caused by makeup. The redness in Tatiana’s eyes was from blush.

Normally, her appearance would easily evoke sympathy. But this time, the incident was so significant that everyone was too angry to sympathize with her. Even her fans criticized her.

“Tatiana, you’ve truly let me down. I championed your new movie, and now all my friends are mocking me!”

“I’m profoundly disappointed. I’ve always believed in you, but you’ve made us all feel like fools!”

“Goodbye, Tatiana. I’ve admired you for nearly five years, but today marks the end. From now on, I will no longer defend you when others speak ill of you.”

“Tatiana, show some real remorse! Kneel and apologize!”

“Why hasn’t Tatiana been arrested yet?”

“How can this woman still have the audacity to live stream? She should just vanish. It’s abhorrent human trafficking, and yet she remains uncaught?”

Before initiating her live stream, Tatiana meticulously checked her appearance. She looked vulnerable, assuming her fans would empathize with her plight. However, to her astonishment, her comment section overflowed with disenchanted fans departing. These fans were different from the others.

She was indifferent to regular fans leaving; as long as she maintained her presence, new followers would emerge. But these were her staunch supporters—fans for over three years who had invested heavily in her. They had always been her pillars of support.

Now, they were all abandoning her. To claim she wasn’t concerned would be deceitful. Yet, Tatiana harbored resentment. If these people genuinely loved her, they would not desert her. Regardless of her actions, they should remain loyal and trust her. That, she believed, was what true fans should do. They were so hypocritical! Tatiana felt a deep dissatisfaction.

Yet on her face, she maintained a sorrowful expression as she said, “I know everyone is furious with me now. I also recognize that I’ve let you down this time. I’m sorry. I genuinely didn’t know the truth. I’ve been with Global Entertainment for many years and have always relied on their integrity. That’s why I reassured everyone. I never anticipated my assistant would do something like this on my behalf…”

Indeed, this was the strategy they had devised—to shift all the blame onto her assistant. It was a tactic all too familiar in the entertainment industry. As Tatiana spoke, tears cascaded down her cheeks. She pinched herself hard, striving to cry more convincingly.

“My assistant is a fan of mine. Witnessing me being undermined by other artists, she felt compelled to defend me. Now that I fully grasp the situation, I am deeply ashamed. It’s my oversight for not supervising my assistant adequately!” Tatiana wept, her appearance vulnerable and delicate. She cast a furtive glance at the comments, hoping her pitiful state would elicit sympathy.

However…

“Does she think we’re fools?”

“I’m astonished. Does she really expect us to believe her just because she says so?”

“So, you’re telling us your powerless assistant took it upon herself to abduct and sell Kathy, spending hundreds of thousands of dollars despite her modest salary? That’s quite the commitment from a ‘true fan.'”

“How many assistants has Tatiana gone through? Now we understand the pattern. Whenever there’s trouble, the assistant takes the blame.”

“Tatiana, can’t you blame someone else this time? Maybe your agent? Not your assistant again.”

“Poor Tatiana, it turns out to be the fault of the assistant. I know Tatiana. She couldn’t be responsible for such a thing.”

“I’m feeling sorry for Tatiana. The assistant is simply malicious!”

“The comments from hired shills are hilarious.”

No one believed Tatiana. The contributions from paid commenters were glaringly out of place, intensifying the mockery and scorn. The screen overflowed with insults and biting sarcasm. Overwhelmed, Tatiana felt a wave of faintness, as though she might collapse. The crowd was unified in their condemnation.

“Tatiana, own up to your actions! Kneel and apologize!”

“You said it yourself—if Global Entertainment harmed Kathy, you’d kneel!”

“Tatiana, kneel!”

“Tatiana, kneel!”

The chorus for Tatiana to kneel crescendoed. Gritting her teeth, Tatiana suddenly dropped to her knees, her head bowed. This act caught everyone off guard; they hadn’t expected Tatiana to actually honor her promise.

With her head still lowered, Tatiana murmured, “I’m sorry, everyone. I’ll accept whatever consequences come my way.”

“Ha-ha, no matter what you do, no one will forgive you!”

“Why hasn’t Tatiana left the entertainment industry yet?”

“After all this, why hasn’t Global Entertainment fired Tatiana?”

Isabella watched as Tatiana knelt, curiosity piqued as to why she wouldn’t lift her head. She surmised that Tatiana was probably seething with rage, aware that if she looked up, the netizens would catch the fury blazing in her eyes!

Tatiana knelt in the live stream room for what felt like an eternity. An hour slipped by, and the comment section still overflowed with barbed insults and scathing remarks. At last, unable to withstand the relentless barrage, Tatiana decisively ended the stream.

Opening Twitter, she was met with a harsh reality: in a single day, she had lost over ten million followers. She was left with only a few million, the majority of whom were nothing but fake accounts. Sitting on the cold floor, Tatiana found vile messages flooding her private inbox. A wave of dizziness crashed over her, echoing the bitter memories of her past downfall.

But no, this time was different; she had sacrificed her reputation to help Hector! Even though her reputation lay in tatters now, Tatiana believed that Hector would find a way to help her recover.

Suddenly, her phone rang; it was Hector. “You did well. Now, the most important thing for you is to focus on the science fiction movie. The production and special effects will surely wow everyone. People have short memories online; once your movie is released in a few months, they’ll have forgotten all about this. As long as your acting shines and the movie captivates, you’ll quickly gain a fresh legion of fans.”

Tatiana’s confidence gradually blossomed once more. “Okay, I understand.”

Feeling stifled within the four walls of her home, she decided to step out for a breath of fresh air. But as soon as she crossed the threshold of her apartment complex, an egg came hurtling toward her.

Fuming, she glanced up to find a group of people encircling her, hurling rotten vegetables, leaves, and putrid eggs with gleeful abandon. “You vile woman, how dare you lay a finger on our Kathy! Do you truly believe you can escape without facing the consequences?”

“Do you think you are above the law? We won’t let you slip away. As long as you’re here, we’ll be keeping a close eye on you!”

“Why did you harm our Kathy, you wicked creature?” Most of these people were Kathy’s fervent fans, who had uncovered Tatiana’s address and now laid siege, hurling whatever they could find in their fury.

Tatiana’s entire body throbbed, her clothes rapidly soaked with an unbearable stench. Covering her face with trembling hands, she felt her anger bubble to a furious boil. “I’ve told you it wasn’t me! Are you all out of your minds? The blame should fall on the right person!” she screamed.

“Smack!”

An egg struck her squarely on the face, the sticky residue sliding down her skin, sending her stomach into a nauseating churn. She nearly retched. A few people sneered. “You really think we’d buy your pathetic lies? Only the last of your mindless fans would fall for that nonsense. Any sensible fan has already abandoned ship. Don’t you realize what kind of person you are?”

“Why don’t you just die? People like you don’t deserve a place in the entertainment industry!”

“Why should you escape without facing consequences? We won’t let you get away so easily!”

Rotten vegetables were hurled at her face. Tatiana struggled to push through the tightly packed crowd, but they closed in around her. Despair swelled within her.
