“Isn’t that Jada?” someone murmured.

“Yes, Jada was always the Charity Angel before Isabella appeared. Nothing ever went wrong when she was around.”

“While this isn’t Isabella’s fault, this family truly is in a tragic situation.”

“Jada really is a kind soul.”

Jada turned to Isabella and said, “I know you have a strong sense of right and wrong, but I can’t help but feel compassion. I’ll take care of this expense for you.”

Her kind demeanor endeared her to many in the crowd. Isabella replied coolly, “By doing this, you are enabling them to continue this wrongdoing.”

“I know they may not be deserving of help, but their child has just passed away, and they’re struggling. If I don’t help, I’m not sure how they’ll manage,” Jada said, her expression filled with sympathy.

“The one who should be compensating them is the one responsible for Bennie’s death,” Isabella countered.

“But we can’t locate the murderer,” Jada said, gazing earnestly at Isabella. “I know you’re against me helping them, but I truly feel for them. Don’t worry; I’ll cover the payment.”

“Who said the murderer can’t be found? The murderer is right here,” Isabella declared.

Everyone looked around in astonishment. Where could the murderer be?

Bennie’s parents grew emotional. “You know who the murderer is?”

No one noticed Emani quietly retreating.

A doctor approached Isabella and handed her a document.

Isabella passed it to Fraser. “The murderer is right here. Open it and see for yourself.”

Fraser, having lived in the countryside but with some education, could read well. He recognized the document as a DNA test report comparing two hair samples, and the results matched. The samples were Emani’s hair.

They had found strands of hair on their son’s body when they saw him earlier. Fraser instantly realized—Emani had killed their son.

“You wretched little brat! It was you!” Fraser charged at Emani and struck her hard, sending her small body crashing to the floor.

One side of Emani’s face went numb, her ears ringing. She stared at Fraser, shaking with terror. “I didn’t do it! I swear!” Emani pleaded.

“Then how do you explain the hair found on Bennie’s body?”

“I admit we had an argument last night, but I didn’t kill him,” Emani cried.

“You little brat, you still refuse to confess!” Fraser shouted, fury igniting within him as he lifted his fist, poised to hit Emani once more. But just then, Jada stepped in.

“Stop!” she said gravely. “Isabella, how can you create such discord? This girl is so young. How could she possibly kill someone? You can’t pin this on her just to dodge compensation!”

As they saw Emani quaking, doubt began to creep in among the onlookers.

“How could such a young girl possibly kill that boy?”

“Is Isabella genuinely trying to make this girl bear the blame?”

Realizing some people were siding with her, Emani cried out more desperately, “Miss Patton, why are you doing this to me? How could I ever kill Bennie? I’m not that kind of person!”

“There, there, don’t cry. I believe you,” Jada comforted, embracing Emani tenderly.

When she noticed Emani’s tears and snot on her expensive attire, her expression momentarily stiffened but quickly softened again.

“Isabella, I told you I’d cover the compensation. Please stop causing trouble for the children,” Jada stated firmly, her gaze fixed on Isabella.

Fed up with the argument, Isabella pulled out her phone and played a surveillance video—a recording of Emani speaking with her mother on the phone.

“By the way, is Bennie dead?”

“Yes.”

“How did that bastard die?”

“Emani, I didn’t mean to kill him.”

“You little pest, what are you talking about?”

Their heated conversation echoed clearly for everyone to hear.

Just moments before, the crowd had been convinced that a girl so young could never be capable of murder. Yet now, they stood corrected, their gazes fixed on Emani, filled with a mix of disbelief, disgust, and revulsion.

Jada shoved Emani away instantly. She had actually hugged a murderer!

Emani stood frozen, a wave of disbelief washing over her. She never imagined there would be a surveillance camera in Isabella’s office. Her life was over!

Fraser swung a fierce punch that connected with her face, his voice erupting like thunder. “You heartless brat! You took my son’s life! You will pay for this!”

Emani’s nose shattered, and blood gushed down her face. She met Fraser’s wrathful gaze and the horrified looks of the onlookers. In a sudden burst of frantic energy, she lunged at Fraser’s uninjured leg.

Taken by surprise, Fraser stumbled backward and crashed to the floor.

Emani made a desperate attempt to run, but a bodyguard seized her.

“Let me go! Let me go! I didn’t do anything wrong! It was Bennie’s fault! He knew there was only one funding spot but insisted on keeping it all for himself!” Emani shouted, her voice rising.

The kids froze, wide-eyed in shock. There was a funding spot?

“What kind of nonsense are you talking about?” Fraser gritted his teeth.

“I’m telling the truth! Miss Patton promised a funding spot, but Bennie kept it from us—he wanted it all for himself! Your family isn’t even the poorest in the village; you’re just lazy and greedy! My family needs that spot more than anyone!”

The children began to get angry.

“Bennie was out of line! How could he treat us like that?”

“Emani, what are you even saying? My family’s the one struggling the most!”

Emani sneered, “Struggling? Your family? Your mother sells a child every year, raking in over $200,000 for each one!”

The revelation hit everyone like a lightning bolt. Could her mother truly sell her children?

The child who spoke immediately fell silent.

Fraser bellowed, “You little brat! You think your family deserves that spot? Your father’s a no-good gambler, always stealing from others, and still can’t scrape enough together for you all!”

The crowd’s faces grew even more complex. The revelations Isabella had shared were nothing compared to the vicious accusations flying among the lives!

Emani yelled at Fraser and his wife, “You’re the real shameless ones! You’re the wealthiest among us, yet you made us come to this city to beg for money. If it weren’t for you, my mom wouldn’t have pushed to get that sponsorship!”

So, these parents had genuinely sent their kids out to beg.

The crowd fell into stunned silence. How could any parent be so utterly shameless?

Jada never anticipated that things would spiral out of control like this. Now it was too late to rein it in; the police were already on the scene. “Fraser Palmer, you’re under arrest for blackmail!”

The cold clank of handcuffs echoed as they snapped onto Fraser’s wrists. His legs buckled beneath him, sending him crashing to his knees. “Officers, please! I swear I didn’t do it! I truly didn’t!”

But the police paid him no mind, swiftly cuffing Bennie’s mother as well. Then they turned to Emani. “Emani Walsh, you are under arrest for murder!”

Emani remained silent, a wave of darkness sweeping over her as she blacked out. She felt utterly defeated, knowing there was no escape—her fate was sealed.

The other children were also ushered away. Fraser struggled against the officers, his voice rising in fervent protest. “Officers, we’re all innocent! It was Betsey who urged us to come and beg for money! I had no idea it was blackmail!”
