Susan felt a pang of sadness but regained her composure at Isabella’s words. Yes, even if they were apart, knowing they were all doing well was comforting enough.

“Yeah, let’s head back,” Susan suggested, her voice steady. She reached out and grabbed Isabella’s hand. She would support Isabella better in the future; she didn’t want to experience the same drift that had separated them from Giana.

Isabella offered her a reassuring smile, and they returned inside.

Isabella started playing cards with Andrew and Wesley.

Within just half an hour, Jada had won millions.

Wesley tried out in mock despair, “Jada, you’re so ruthless, not even giving me a chance!”

“I was holding back!” Jada said.

Their card game attracted an audience, and murmurs of admiration filled the room. “Jada is so good at playing cards. She could make a fortune from this. Why even bother running a company?”

“Yes, Jada is incredibly sharp.”

Hearing those words brought back a sense of confidence Jada hadn’t felt in a while, lifting her spirits. She glanced at Isabella with a hint of satisfaction. “Isabella, you’ve got to pick up on how to play cards. When you tie the knot with Andrew, knowing how to play will be something you can’t do without.”

Puzzled, Isabella asked, “Why is it so important to know how to play cards?”

“Well, these days, men usually dive into their work and focus on their careers, while women often handle things at home. Andrew will most likely be busy building his professional life, so you’ll probably spend more time at home mingling with other wives. When that happens, there won’t be much else going on except card games. Believe it or not, these games can hold quite a bit of sway in social circles,” Jada said sincerely, as though she were sharing valuable advice she had picked up from Mara.

“Oh, really? I had no idea,” Isabella responded with genuine surprise. “My mom’s never been much into card games,” she added, her curious look highlighting the gap in their mothers’ social statuses. Elaine had the luxury of playing cards whenever it suited her—or skipping it altogether if she wasn’t in the mood. Mara, by contrast, was Esteban’s second wife and didn’t command much respect in their social sphere. She was constantly seeking ways to cozy up to other affluent women, attending events in an attempt to fit in.

The meaning behind these words wasn’t lost on anyone, and suddenly their looks took on a more knowing quality. A wave of embarrassment washed over Jada.

“Damn it, Isabella!” She had been trying to offer some advice, and Isabella just had to say something like that. Hmph, just because the Patton family had influence didn’t mean Isabella carried the same weight.

“Sure, there are plenty of things we do in our circle besides playing cards, but card games are definitely the most common, and anyone can take part. I’m just being thoughtful here and giving you a heads-up. It’s not something I mention to just anyone,” Jada added with a playful tone.

“But I’m not aiming to be a stay-at-home wife,” Isabella replied. “I’ve got my own career to focus on.”

“Your career? Well, your career isn’t exactly on the same level as Andrew’s,” Jada said. “Once you’re married, someone’s going to have to handle things at home, Isabella.”

“Why does it have to be Isabella?” she shot back.

“Who else would it be? Andrew?”

Jada chuckled. Isabella was being so naive.

Andrew’s deep voice interrupted the conversation. “Actually, I’ll take care of the house.”

The room went dead silent. Andrew… was he really serious? He was clearly pampering Isabella far too much. The room filled with envious glances in her direction.

Isabella gave Andrew a warm smile. “It’s not just going to be you handling everything at home. We’ll share the responsibilities. There’s no need to stick to traditional roles.”

“Absolutely right,” Andrew chimed in without hesitation, his voice filled with warmth and affection. This only fueled the envy and jealousy in the room.

“Mr. Klein really spoils her, doesn’t he? With all that money, he still treats Isabella like a queen. I’m so jealous.”

“Isabella’s amazing in her own right, though. They’re totally perfect for each other.”

Jada nearly clenched the cards too tightly in frustration but managed to keep a smile on her face. “I’m so jealous of you, Isabella. You’ve got such a supportive boyfriend. Meanwhile, I’ve had to push forward in my career all on my own.”

Wesley was quick to reassure her. “Jada, you are nothing like Isabella. You’re strong and independent, and that’s what I respect most about you. You’re not like someone who preaches gender equality but still depends on her man.”

“Everyone has their own ambitions and paths,” Jada muttered softly.

“What are you even saying? Isabella runs Edge Entertainment way better than you manage your business,” Susan couldn’t help saying.

“That’s ridiculous. Are you misleading people to think your company is doing great? If it weren’t for your friends’ investments, who would’ve even heard of it?”

Susan’s harsh words tore right through Jada’s carefully maintained facade.

Jada bit her lip, shooting a sharp glare at her. Weren’t Isabella and Susan on bad terms? Why was she even here? Then she spotted Dane nearby, and it all clicked: Susan must’ve come along with him.

“Susan, I wasn’t implying anything. Aren’t you overreacting a bit?” Jada replied, her expression concerned. To the onlookers, it would easily seem like Susan was starting a confrontation.

“Oh, really? You go around bragging about being independent while suggesting Isabella relies on her boyfriend. It’s hilarious. Did you forget how hard you tried to go after Andrew? He never had any interest in you!”

The room went completely silent.

Susan’s words were incredibly harsh.

Wesley jumped in to defend Jada, saying, “Susan, keep quiet! This isn’t for you to comment on. Jada’s better than you, no matter what you say.”

“Oh, really? I can’t wait to see how she does in the upcoming perfume-making competition,” Susan shot back with a sneer.

Jada flashed a confident smile. “Okay, Susan. I look forward to seeing how you perform as well.” The tension between the two of them was palpable.

“Let’s just get back to the game,” Jada said, eager to stop wasting time in this pointless argument. She was more interested in winning some of Isabella’s money. They were playing with high stakes, with each round starting at about one hundred thousand. If Jada played her cards right, she could easily walk away with more than two hundred thousand in just one round. If things kept going her way, by the end of the night, she could rake in over ten million, setting a new personal record. The onlookers buzzed with excitement. They had never witnessed Jada’s card-playing skills in action before, and the thought of her winning so much in a single night was truly impressive.

“What? Jada lost?” someone exclaimed in disbelief. Jada had lost to Isabella in the next few rounds, and everyone was surprised. They could hardly believe that Jada had lost, given how skilled she was at this game.

“I’ve won so many rounds, and it felt like too much. Fortunately, Isabella won too.”

Everyone immediately understood the implication in Jada’s words. She had deliberately let Isabella win. Probably, she thought Isabella would feel dissatisfied with her winning so much money, so she wanted to give Isabella a chance to win too. She was very thoughtful. Because of this, they couldn’t help but admire her even more. No wonder Jada was known as the most prominent young lady in Anspott. Indeed, she lived up to her reputation.

Jada felt everyone’s admiration, and a charming smile appeared on her face. Isabella looked at her but didn’t say anything. They just continued playing cards.

It was true that Jada held back a bit in the previous rounds, thinking that letting Isabella taste victory first would allow her to win more later. She believed she would still be the star player in the end.

But in the next round, she decided to stop holding back and played the game seriously, aiming to win. However, despite giving it her best, Isabella still won.

Jada caught a glimpse of Isabella’s cards, and beads of sweat appeared on her forehead. Was Isabella really that lucky, or had she underestimated her?

However, she was confident she could beat Isabella, reassuring herself that Isabella’s win was likely a fluke. After all, she believed in her own ability to play this game.

Jada collected her thoughts and played the next round seriously. She was now fully focused, relying on her skill rather than leaving anything to chance.

This time, her moves were noticeably slower and more calculated than the previous rounds, weighing her decisions more carefully. She was sure she would win this time. But to her surprise, Isabella laid down all the cards in her hand one after another, leaving her no room to counter. Isabella had won five consecutive rounds, which was a major blow to Jada’s confidence.

Moreover, each round had high stakes, so Isabella won back all the money she had previously lost.

“Oh my God! I didn’t expect Isabella to be this good.”

“Isabella, did you deliberately downplay your ability at the start?”

“Isabella, you are incredible! You had already won before I could even fully understand the game.”

If Isabella had won in one or two rounds, they might have thought she was just lucky. But winning five rounds consecutively made everyone realize that her victory was due to skill rather than luck. At this point, they genuinely admired her.

When Jada noticed the crowd’s attention shifting to Isabella, she felt a little embarrassed. But she maintained a warm smile and looked at Andrew, saying, “Andrew is really good to Isabella.”

The subtle implication in her words was clear. She wanted to suggest that Isabella won effortlessly because of Andrew’s help.

Jada’s insinuation successfully planted doubt in the crowd’s minds. They had just admired Isabella, thinking she had won on her own, but it turned out Andrew had something to do with it.

Wesley immediately said, “Our card game is fair and just. How can you ask for someone’s help when playing?”

As soon as he said this, he received a sharp look from Jada, which made him shut up.

“When Jada won, she relied on her own ability. When I asked for someone’s help, it’s a double standard?” Isabella said. She seemed to be smiling, but her eyes were cold.

Jada quickly tried to defuse the tension. “Isabella, take Wesley’s words to heart. You know he likes to joke around. We’re all here to have fun, so it doesn’t matter who wins or loses.”

Her calmness and generosity helped her win the favor of some people there.
