Elaine and Glenn watched the scene unfold, their amusement barely contained as they chuckled. Elaine said, “Let the young ones have their fun; go enjoy the breeze.”

“Alright, dear,” Glenn, the obedient husband, agreed and followed her outside.

Isabella sensed her brothers’ displeasure and quickly addressed the crowd, “Thank you all for coming to my birthday party. I hope this year brings us all joy and success. Enjoy yourselves tonight, and now, let’s kick off the dance!”

“Yay!” No gathering of young people is complete without the ritual of dance. As the evening’s host, Isabella was obliged to lead the inaugural dance. She paired with Andrew, captivating the audience with their harmonious and elegant movements.

“Is there anything Miss Patton can’t do? She’s absolutely marvelous!”

“Miss Patton is truly a sight to behold. I daresay she’s on par with Jada.”

“But Jada might have the upper hand, being part of the prestigious Qiviut Organization. After all, it’s no small feat to be associated with them.”

“I don’t care; in my eyes, Miss Patton and Mr. Klein are the epitome of a perfect match! They ought to be together forever!”

The crowd erupted into applause, the atmosphere electrified with excitement. Amid the revelry, Jada stood secluded, the spotlight casting a lonely shadow over her. She felt like an outsider, a rat cornered in the dark. This realization shook her. Always the center of attention, how had she fallen so low? Hands clenched, Jada scanned the crowd for Norton, only to find his gaze fixed on Maxine, who was beaming a smile at Isabella.

The cycle had come full circle, everything inevitably leading back to Isabella. Jada mustered a forced smile and approached Norton, masking her turmoil.

Meanwhile, Betsey and Levi were also in shock and dismay. Betsey’s belief crumbled. The unassuming shop assistant was none other than her benefactor, Isabella! No wonder she had the receipt for the earrings—they had been hers all along. And Betsey had acted like a fool in front of Isabella this whole time. Isabella must have thought Betsey was insufferable.

A strong sense of humiliation swept over Betsey, spreading through her entire body like a bitter winter chill. She lunged to find the smallest nook, seeking solace from the overwhelming shame. Levi felt an even deeper mortification. He had been boasting to Norton about his connection with Isabella, only to be struck by the harsh reality that she was Andrew’s beloved. He didn’t stand a ghost of a chance.

Norton and Andrew were close as brothers; obviously, Norton knew all about it. In a whirl of emotions, Levi spun towards Betsey. “Betsey, what is going on? Didn’t you say you were like a sister to her?”

Levi was unraveling, his mind entangled in the deceit he perceived this whole situation to be.

Betsey recoiled at his sudden outburst, her mouth agape, the words failing her.

“Betsey, answer me! Have you been deceiving me all this time? You even mistook Isabella for a shop assistant!” Levi’s face was a picture of humiliation.

Betsey’s voice cracked as tears brimmed in her eyes. “I had no idea it would come to this.”

With furious questioning, Betsey found herself cornered, with no option but to unveil the entire saga. Upon hearing her confession, Levi felt faint, nearly succumbing to his simmering rage. Betsey had only been someone Isabella had financially supported! As a beneficiary of her generosity, she had strutted arrogantly before her benefactor. Levi’s anger boiled over.

In a moment of lost control, he struck Betsey across the face.

Betsey clutched her cheek, tears streaming down as she grappled with the shock and pain, utterly at a loss.

As the dance concluded, the crowd’s applause faded into tense silence.

“Mr. Santos, surely striking a woman in front of such a gathering isn’t fitting, is it?” A clear voice cut through the murmurings. Everyone’s gaze snapped toward Levi and Betsey.

“I despise men who hit women the most,” someone muttered. “I can’t believe he would do such a thing.”

“He was always known as a kind-hearted man,” another added. Murmurs turned to whispers of disdain as the crowd’s perception of Levi shifted dramatically.

Betsey, her face aflame from both the slap and humiliation, attempted to salvage the situation. “It’s nothing. We just had a little misunderstanding,” she said, trying to downplay the incident.

“What kind of misunderstanding? Let’s hear it,” Isabella said with a disarming smile.

Betsey knew Isabella was complicating matters for her, but paralyzed by the pressure, she remained silent, her embarrassment painfully evident.

Levi stepped in to explain. “It’s just a private matter between us. There is no need for you to worry, Miss Patton.”

“Oh? I’m afraid this has something to do with me,” Isabella replied with a sly smile.

The underlying meaning in her words was clear, and everyone began to piece together the connection between the three of them.

Maxine, who had already sensed something amiss about Betsey earlier, interjected, “If you don’t even know Miss Patton, how did you manage to get into this party?”

Betsey stammered, the weight of suspicion rendering her speechless.

Levi saw that Isabella was intentionally complicating things for Betsey. Seizing an opportunity to clear his own name, he did not hesitate to turn against Betsey. “Betsey, apologize to Miss Patton immediately! She’s the one who has been financially supporting you, yet you insulted her! You even mistook her for a mere shop assistant at the Natural Beauty store and accused her unjustly! How dare you!”

“What?! What’s wrong with this woman?!” The crowd was stunned by Betsey’s behavior. “Didn’t she say she was Isabella’s friend?”

Betsey couldn’t help but burst into tears. “I’m sorry—I’m sorry, Miss Patton! My own arrogance blinded me. I failed to recognize you as the very benefactor who has been supporting me!”

In that moment, a profound regret seized Betsey; she wished fervently that she could rewind the hands of time. How could she have misjudged and mistreated Isabella? She had been granted a golden opportunity and had squandered it through her own folly.

The assembled guests quickly connected the dots. “Isabella is this woman’s benefactor, and yet she didn’t recognize her and even went so far as to humiliate her!”

“Oh my God! Too ungrateful!”

“Some people from poor areas are just too shameless! Humph! Such creatures should not be supported.”

Everyone present was a friend of Isabella, and naturally, they sided with her and stood up for her.

Betsey was overwhelmed by the barrage of scorn and condemnation directed at her. Such humiliation was so intense that she gradually bent over, her embarrassment evident. What else could she do? Naturally, she instinctively resorted to self-preservation tactics, such as making excuses to deflect the blame. After all, this was a natural human reaction to feeling cornered or attacked.

She believed that Isabella’s lack of transparency about her true identity played a significant role in her actions. Therefore, she wanted to pin the blame on Isabella. If she had known what Isabella really was, she would not have acted in a way that led to her current predicament.

Not only did Isabella conceal her true identity, but she also played games with her. Wasn’t Isabella being too manipulative?

Isabella must have done this deliberately to humiliate her and put her in this position.

“Wa-ha!” Suddenly, Betsey burst into laughter, realizing she had been a fool to be deceived by Isabella like this.

Her sudden laughter startled everyone, leaving them wondering if she had lost her sanity.

Then they saw tears streaming down her face; her emotions were clearly at a breaking point. With a mix of anger, hurt, and defiance in her eyes, she confronted Isabella. “Are you enjoying watching me be humiliated like this? Do you really think you are such a good person? You hid your identity, watched me make a fool of myself, and laughed behind my back. What kind of person does that make you? Let me tell you, you are the most vicious and scheming person I’ve ever met.”

The crowd was so stunned by her words that they fell silent, obviously not expecting her to say such things. Their faces were filled with disbelief and disapproval; they perceived her attitude as shameless.

Maxine sneered. “How dare you say such things to Isabella! She has been helping you, but you keep acting arrogantly and bullying others. You even bullied your benefactor but feel no guilt. Instead, you want to pin the blame on her. Are you even human? Have you ever thought about where you would be without Isabella? You wouldn’t be in your current position without her support!”

Indeed, if it weren’t for Isabella, Betsey would likely be stuck in a dead-end job in a less desirable area with no hope for a better life.

However, Betsey was unwilling to give in. She retorted, “She had countless opportunities to reveal her identity, but did she do it? No! Because she deliberately wanted to make fun of me.”

At this moment, Isabella spoke up. “My identity as a benefactor has always been confidential. Why should I make it public just because of you? But you know what? You only made me realize that hiding my identity is actually a good thing. It allows me to see what kind of people I am supporting. Betsey, you have violated our agreement. The benefactor-beneficiary relationship ends here. You must return all the funds I have provided you.”

“Fine! I will return them,” Betsey retorted arrogantly. She was part of a big company, and with her salary, it would only take her a year to repay Isabella.

“Also, since the Patton Group is now aware of your true character, you are fired and banned from joining any of our subsidiaries,” Isabella declared decisively.

Betsey’s eyes darkened at once. She had worked hard to secure this offer. This job represented a significant achievement and a crucial step in her career. She couldn’t afford to lose it.

“Isabella, you are a monster! You are only doing this to take revenge on me!”

After saying this, Betsey rushed forward to hit Isabella.

However, Andrew had always been prepared to protect Isabella. He quickly moved and kicked her away, sending Betsey crashing to the floor, where she immediately spat out a mouthful of blood.

Dane’s face was as cold as ice. He ordered fiercely, “Get her out of here!”

The bodyguards promptly moved forward, dragging Betsey away and clearing up the commotion.

Everyone felt sorry for Isabella. They thought her kindness to Betsey for many years had gone to waste.

“Isabella, that woman is shameless and ungrateful. Don’t let her get to you. Also, don’t let her get away like that. She should be punished for what she deserves.”

“That’s right! That woman is so disgusting. She really gets on my nerves. If I were you, I wouldn’t let her live a good and peaceful life.”

Isabella felt everyone’s concern and care for her, warming her heart. She smiled and said, “Don’t worry. I won’t let her affect me. Rest assured, she will be dealt with.”

Someone sighed. “I guess I need to check on the people I’m helping. But I just hope I won’t find someone like her. Otherwise, I don’t know what I can do.”
