Jada stopped pressing the issue. She had planned to use Isabella to drive a wedge between Dane and Susan, but it seemed her plan wasn’t working. Susan was more cunning than she thought.

“By the way, do you have any idea what Susan is planning to auction later?” Jada asked, shifting the conversation.

“I think it’s a bottle of perfume,” Isabella replied. Something occurred to Jada, and she asked, “And what about you? What are you putting up for auction?”

“I’m offering an antique.”

Jada nodded, and Wesley, with a warm smile, added, “Jada, the title of Charity Angel always went to you before. This year, it’s bound to be yours again.”

Jada let out a light laugh. “I don’t really need the title. What matters most is helping the kids in need.”

“Jada, you’re so generous,” Wesley said with admiration. The others quickly chimed in with their own praises, and it wasn’t long before Jada became the focus of everyone’s conversation.

It was clear Jada held a prestigious position in the high society of Ansport, sparking envy among the other ladies. After dinner, the guests made their way to the auction hall, where the excitement of the evening was about to unfold.

Seating in the hall was arranged based on status, and both Isabella and Andrew were given spots right in the front row. As guests continued to arrive, Isabella scanned the room but didn’t spot anyone for quite a while. She lowered her eyes, lost in thought.

Before long, all the guests had taken their seats, and the auction finally kicked off.

“Everyone, welcome to this year’s charity auction! Thank you all for coming to this event despite your busy schedules. Since you’ve brought meaningful items to auction tonight, let’s start the bidding! We will still follow the old rules. The owner of the item auctioned at the highest price will be this year’s Charity Angel and spokesperson. We all know that last year’s spokesperson was Miss Jada Riggs. Who do you think will be this year’s spokesperson?” The host’s voice was loud enough to catch everyone’s attention.

“Alright! For our first item…” He removed the cloth covering the item on the stage. “Queen Angela’s crown! The opening bid for the crown is one million dollars.” Isabella raised an eyebrow.

Although it was a voluntary auction and the proceeds would go to charity, everyone’s auction items were valuable. Many vintage jewelry pieces and collectibles could be seen there, making it feel almost like a formal auction. One item after another was auctioned off until it was finally Jada’s turn.

Jada’s item was a sachet she made herself. The opening bid was two hundred thousand dollars. The corners of Isabella’s mouth twitched. What kind of sachet could be sold for two hundred thousand dollars? As soon as the host announced the opening bid, Wesley immediately raised his bidding paddle. “One million!”

Another man shouted, “One million and five hundred thousand!” For these wealthy young men, millions were nothing. The current highest bid soared to five million and eight hundred thousand. But in no time, the bid for the sachet reached nine million and five hundred thousand. In the end, Wesley secured the item for ten million dollars.

Of course, the ten million dollars would not come solely from Wesley’s pocket, because he and his friends had agreed they would contribute equally regardless of who got Jada’s item. This is why Jada’s items consistently received the highest bids, making her the Charity Angel and spokesperson.

“Ten million dollars!” the host shouted excitedly. “Is there anyone else who wants to raise the price?” There was silence in the auction hall, and no one raised their bidding paddle. The host continued, “Going once! Going twice! Going three times! Congratulations, Miss Jada Riggs. Your item got the highest bid for now.”

Jada looked at Wesley and the others gratefully and mouthed, “Thank you.”

Everyone fell silent. All the women in the auction hall looked at her with envy. At this moment, the host announced, “The next item is a bottle of perfume from Miss Susan Riggs! At first glance, it looks like an ordinary perfume, but the truth is, it has many effects. This perfume is also an aromatherapy that can stabilize mood, improve sleep, and replenish energy. The opening bid for this bottle of perfume is fifty thousand dollars.”

“What? Only fifty thousand?” someone from the audience taunted. The name Susan Riggs had been in the news recently, so everyone was familiar with it. But no one thought highly of Susan; after all, Jada’s light was more dazzling. They all believed the future of the Riggs family depended on Jada.

The relationship between Jada and Susan was also very complicated. Because of Jada, naturally, no one liked Susan.

“How can she offer a bottle of perfume? Doesn’t she have anything else to offer? Who will bid for a bottle of perfume?”

“Ha-ha! This is hilarious. This is the crappiest item I have seen in an auction so far,” some wealthy ladies mocked Susan in low voices. Of course, Jada also heard their words. Her expression was indifferent, but the corners of her mouth furtively curled up.

Josie was also in a good mood; she enjoyed seeing Susan being ridiculed by everyone. Susan was such a fool. Who did she think would bid on a bottle of perfume?

To everyone’s surprise, someone raised his bidding paddle and shouted, “One million!” It was Andrew. The audience’s discussions and laughter ceased at once. They all looked at Andrew with wide eyes in disbelief. Andrew didn’t raise his bidding paddle for Jada, but now he did it for Susan. What was going on?

Why would Andrew support Susan? Wasn’t he Isabella’s boyfriend? While everyone was still in shock, Dane suddenly raised his bidding paddle. “Five million!”

From fifty thousand, the bid soared to five million in just a few seconds. This was shocking! Even the host was too stunned to react for a moment. When he came back to his senses, he said, “Five million! Mr. Patton’s bid is five million. Does anyone want to offer a higher price?”

Would someone else offer a higher bid? This was definitely the most stupefying scene in tonight’s charity auction.

“Why did Andrew and Dane bid on Susan’s perfume? Is it really that effective?”

“Well, I suddenly became a little curious.”

“No, they don’t know whether it’s effective or not. I think they are just close to Susan.”

Were Andrew and Dane really close to Susan? How did she get along well with them? This was simply surprising.

Although Jada was the most famous young lady in Ansport and had a good relationship with many people in the wealthy circle, Andrew and Dane were from the top wealthy families. Having a good relationship with them was more important than with others. The crowd looked at Susan with a complicated expression.

Josie was so angry that she wanted to bite Susan to pieces. Susan stole the limelight again. For her, this was unacceptable. She didn’t understand why Andrew raised his bidding paddle for Susan.

Actually, Isabella was behind all this. It was inconvenient for her to raise her bidding paddle because it might arouse Jada’s suspicion, so she had to ask Andrew to do it for her. She gently nudged his side, making him immediately raise his bidding paddle again.

“Ten million!”

In just a few words, a record was broken. Suddenly, there were low screams in the crowd.

“Oh my God! Ten million?”

Dane raised his bidding paddle again. “Twenty million!” The crowd was in utter disbelief. What was going on? How could Dane offer twenty million dollars for a mere bottle of perfume? Was he out of his mind?

Although they were all rich, it was just too much to spend such an amount on a bottle of perfume. It was such a waste!

Susan swiftly took Dane’s hand in hers and leaned closer, whispering softly, “That’s enough. That perfume isn’t worth that much.” Dane gave her a warm, understanding look and nodded in agreement. Ultimately, the final bid was set at twenty million.

The host, clearly thrilled, announced, “We have a new winner—Susan—with an impressive bid of twenty million! Let’s all thank Susan and Mr. Patton. Now, moving on…” Susan’s item had officially beaten Jada’s, securing the top spot for now. All eyes in the room turned toward her and Dane, full of curiosity and significance. Apparently, Susan wasn’t as worthless as the rumors made her out to be.

A curious friend of Jada’s, Rebecca Alpert, leaned in and asked, “Jada, what exactly is the connection between your sister and Mr. Patton?”

Jada blinked and offered a smile. “Well, my sister has a strong personality and a lot of charm. It looks like they both find her pretty appealing.”

“But wait—Andrew is Isabella’s boyfriend, right?” By now, this fact wasn’t a secret to anyone in their social circle.

“Yes, Susan and Isabella were quite close once. Maybe Mr. Patton is just looking out for Susan because of that,” Jada remarked, leaving just enough ambiguity in her tone. The way she said it left room for people to misunderstand. Looking out for her? Was it in a normal way?

Rebecca’s expression shifted to one of disgust. “I never thought your sister would stoop so low. You earned your place with strength and integrity, but she… she’s been seducing them. That’s just awful!”

“Don’t be so harsh. Susan has her reasons. She’s just too determined not to lose,” Jada sighed softly.

“But she’s nowhere near as good as you. Why does she feel the need to compete? She’s only setting herself up for disappointment.”

Jada simply let out another sigh.

Following a few more auction items, it was finally Isabella’s turn. While many of the auction items didn’t hold a fixed value, the moment Isabella’s crown was presented, the crowd was taken aback.

“What is that?”

“Wait, could that be Queen Sophia’s crown? I recall it vanished ages ago, and people assumed it was lost forever. Antique dealers have been hunting for it, and its black market value has skyrocketed to one hundred million.”

“It’s absolutely stunning. Look at that blue diamond—it is breathtaking!”

Queen Sophia’s crown stood as one of the finest antiques, renowned not just for its beauty but also for its immense value. While this crown had been featured in numerous TV shows, all of them were replicas. The allure of those fakes had left many captivated. Now that the real crown was on display, no one could tear their gaze away.

Everyone here had fine possessions, given they were the wealthy elite of Ansport. However, since this was a charity event where no one would profit, they typically refrained from offering up their truly valuable items. The sight of this crown undeniably left many in the room astonished.

“Miss Patton must be incredibly wealthy to offer such a rare gem. It’s incredible—I have to place a bid on it.”

A lot of attendees were eager to get their hands on the crown. The host himself was visibly thrilled. “It’s well known Queen Sophia’s crown has been missing for ages. To see Miss Patton offering it up for auction is quite a surprise. We’re starting the bid at fifty million!” The host barely finished his announcement before the bidding war began.

“Sixty million!”

“Sixty-five million!”

“One hundred million!”

“One hundred and ten million!”

Jada was stunned; the bidding had already surpassed her own record. Her previous high was one hundred million. Susan and Isabella were always her rivals. Still, Jada smiled as she watched the fierce bidding unfold.

“What… How can that be?” Rebecca wore a sour expression. “Jada, do you think that crown is even real?”

“I’m not sure, but since she has offered it, it’s probably not a fake, right?” Jada said. “Rebecca, doesn’t your family specialize in the history of Queen Sophia’s crown? Surely, you’d know better.”
