“It seems to be attempted murder. It’s terrible—these rich families are just monstrous.”

“Damn, who did she try to murder?”

“No one knows for sure. But whoever it is, it is just horrifying. This family has really fallen from grace.”

“I’m done with Corbett’s products. I’m deleting his number from my phone.”

“I’d go with Howard’s instead. It’s cheaper, and the battery lasts forever.”

“Thinking about the Patton, it’s clear these rich families are a tangled web. One misstep, and you could be dead. In their world, it’s either die or achieve untold glory.”

“That’s just typical. Even ordinary families go through this. It’s just that both the Patton family and Andrew wield a lot of power!”

Bruno’s family’s reputation was destroyed. When Damari found out, he was completely numb. He had known his wife would do anything to keep their son out of jail, but he hadn’t anticipated her drastic measures. Bruno was heartbroken and sought Damari’s help.

He spent a long time on his knees before Damari.

“Bruno.” Damari opened his eyes slowly and said, “I’ve arranged for you to stay at a church. Go there and find some peace.”

Bruno was taken aback. He looked at Damari and pleaded, “Dad, my brother is gone and you’re not well. I want to stay by your side and look after you! Please, give me a chance. Corbett messed up, yes. He acted rashly and kidnapped Isabella. I would never do such things. I’m not after anything in the company; I just want to be here for you.”

Damari said nothing and closed his eyes once more to rest.

“Bruno,” Jada said. “Damari needs his rest. There’s been too much happening recently. Let him sleep.”

Bruno’s body shook faintly. After a pause, he said slowly, “Dad, please think over what I’ve said.” He then stood and walked away slowly, appearing much older.

Watching his departure, Jada sighed and said, “Bruno has gone too far. Damari, don’t be distressed—I’m sure after a few years of reflection at the church, he will come to appreciate your difficult decisions. His greed blinded him to this point.”

“Yes.” As Damari finished speaking, his expression suddenly changed. He clutched at his chest tightly.

“Damari, are you alright? Doctor! Doctor!” Jada looked distressed as she called for the doctor.

After Damari went through a check-up and received some medication, his condition stabilized. The doctor exhaled deeply and replied, “Mr. Klein, your condition is quite severe. To be cautious, you might want to start making arrangements for the end.”

Typically, doctors wouldn’t make such grave statements lightly. It suggested that Damari’s time was limited.

“What are you talking about? He’s in good shape, and I’ll have the right medication soon!” Jada responded sharply.

The doctor looked taken aback. Was Jada telling the truth? “If that specific medication is indeed close, Mr. Klein could have much more time.” The doctor nodded and left.

Jada gazed at Damari, who was resting on the bed, and asked worriedly, “Damari, are you feeling alright?”

“I’m okay. Please, don’t inform Andrew and Isabella about this.”

“Damari, you’re seriously ill. They deserve to know the truth,” Jada said, her brow furrowed.

“Isabella has just been through an ordeal with her kidnapping. My health is critical. They don’t need to be burdened with this,” Damari said. “Please, don’t tell them.”

Reluctantly, Jada nodded in agreement.

“Don’t spend all your time here. You’ve just come back to the country and started at the company; what you need now is to find a good husband,” Damari advised Jada.

A look of understanding crossed Jada’s face. She grasped the implication of Damari’s words—he was cautioning her against fighting for Andrew.

“I understand, Damari. But I’ve just joined the company. I want to focus on my career right now and not worry about other matters.”

“It’s good to focus on your career, but don’t miss out if you find someone to love.”

“Understood,” Jada replied, her fingers digging into her palms.

Despite Damari’s wishes to keep his illness from Isabella and Andrew, the news reached them. Andrew learned of it through the doctor and visited Damari with Isabella.

Isabella felt a heavy weight in her heart. Damari was in poor health. She hoped the development of the medication would accelerate, but she knew such processes couldn’t be hastened.

As they left the hospital, Isabella saw that Andrew was deeply troubled. She took his hand and said, “Your grandpa will be okay.”

“I…,” Andrew gazed off into the distance, lost in thought. After a few seconds, he said, “He’ll pull through.”

A few days later, Milly’s shooting wrapped up, and Victor threw a celebration party.

Everyone was busy eating and drinking, but fewer people were flattering Tatiana than before. Tatiana didn’t say much, opting to drink by herself.

Since Corbett was imprisoned, the way people treated her had shifted dramatically. Most of them mocked her, and no one approached her to start a conversation. Milly didn’t engage with her either. She was naturally quiet, which didn’t seem out of place even in the bustling atmosphere.

As she observed others talking joyfully, Tatiana grew sullen. She got up and headed to the restroom. Inside, she overheard a conversation.

“‘Corbett’s been arrested; Tatiana must have dumped him by now,” a woman said.

“‘Definitely. Remember how she left Howard when he was injured? It’s impressive. Tatiana always manages to date successful men, but does she bring them bad luck? Every one of her boyfriends ends up miserable!” another woman said with a mix of envy and sarcasm.

“Possibly. Tatiana seems so heartless. I always thought she was dreadful. After she left Howard, he only got better while Corbett ended up behind bars.”

“‘Ha-ha, she’s really not a good person.”

The two women laughed mockingly. Tatiana seethed with anger and felt an urge to confront them, but what could she possibly say?

Tatiana’s Regret

With Corbett now behind bars, Tatiana was completely at a loss about what to do next. If she left Corbett, people would mock her; if she stayed, they’d still mock her. She couldn’t wrap her head around how her life had spiraled into such a mess so quickly.

Once, she was the epitome of glamour, someone everyone looked up to with admiration. But now, it felt like the same people who once sang her praises were trampling all over her. Tatiana was overwhelmed with distress. She couldn’t shake the feeling of being incredibly unlucky.

When she got back to her seat, she started drinking heavily again. When the party finally ended, Tatiana made her way to the parking lot. A man was standing there in the faint light. He seemed to have a certain glow about him, and Tatiana found herself unable to look away. Overcome by all her pent-up grievances, she dashed toward the man, throwing herself into his arms.

Howard was holding his phone, chatting with Milly, a small smile playing on his lips. He was in high spirits when, out of nowhere, someone suddenly lunged at him. Before he had a chance to react, he noticed Milly standing some distance away. Panic washed over him, and he instinctively pushed Tatiana away.

“Tatiana, what do you think you’re doing?” Howard snapped coldly as he quickly moved toward Milly. “Baby, she means nothing to me.”

Milly looked at Howard, her clear, beautiful eyes full of warmth. “I know,” she said softly.

He instantly felt relieved. He realized just how deeply he liked Milly. And the best part was, Milly trusted him completely, with every fiber of her being.

Tatiana watched the scene unfold, and suddenly, tears began to spill from her eyes. “Howard, don’t let this woman deceive you! She’s not good at all! Can’t you see she doesn’t truly care about you? If she did, how could she be so calm about this? She’s just putting up with everything to stay with you because she’s after your family’s wealth!”

Howard’s expression turned cold as anger started to flare up inside him. “Tatiana, weren’t you with me because of my family’s wealth back then? Even if she is with me for the money, I still care about her.”

Milly’s gaze flickered slightly. The truth was… she was indeed with him for his money. Milly gently touched the bills she had in her pocket—those were the bills he’d given her years ago, and she had held onto them ever since.

In those difficult years, Milly had depended on the bills Howard gave her to get by. But it wasn’t just his bills she cared about; she liked him far more than the money. Tatiana never imagined that Howard would ever speak to her like this, all because of another woman. Her tears streamed down even harder, and she was on the verge of fainting from the sobs that wracked her body.

“Howard, do you remember when you promised to always treat me well? How could your feelings change so quickly? How can you not love me anymore?”

Howard couldn’t believe what he was hearing; her words sounded completely absurd to him. How had he not seen how irrational Tatiana could be until now? Yes, he had said those things, but that was a long time ago.

Before he could respond, Milly cut in, her voice cool and clear. “Tatiana, you brought this on yourself. You knew how good he was to you, and still, you betrayed him. You have no shame. Why act pitiful now? Someone like you deserves nothing less than this!”

Milly was usually quiet, so it always caught Howard off guard when she spoke with such sharpness. Yet, somehow, he found her even more adorable in those moments. No matter what she did, there was something irresistibly charming about her. Now, even the fierce way she stood up for him made her more endearing.

“Tatiana, this isn’t fair for you to say. Howard and I have real love. We’ve been together for so long; he can’t just stop loving me!” Tatiana cried out, turning a pleading gaze toward Howard. “I know I messed up. I was forced to be with Corbett; my father made me do it. Deep down, I still love you. Please, give me another chance!”

“I have nothing left for you. Don’t waste your time bothering me again,” Howard replied, clearly irritated. Grabbing Milly’s hand, he turned and started heading toward the car.

Refusing to give up, Tatiana hurried after him. Howard turned to her and said, “Looks like you don’t care about your reputation as an award-winning actress anymore.” Tatiana froze, stunned by his words as she watched him walk away.

Resentment burned in her eyes as she glared at Howard and Milly, her anger bubbling up inside her. Milly—she might be enjoying her moment now, but Tatiana was determined not to let that last for long. What Tatiana didn’t expect was that her troubles were only just beginning.

Once the drama aired, both Tatiana and Milly became hot topics of discussion. Events had taken a toll on Tatiana, leaving her unable to fully commit to her acting, resulting in a performance that was barely adequate. But Milly was different. She poured herself into her role with unwavering dedication, bringing her character to life flawlessly.
