With this thought in mind, the doctor said, “Jada, that kind woman doesn’t deserve Andrew. Alas, what is Andrew thinking? You have been by his side. Doesn’t he realize that you are such a good person?” The doctor couldn’t help but sigh.
“Well, I can’t say anything for him. I’ll go ahead. I’ll buy some food for Damari.” Jada said politely. Then she turned around and left.
Isabella and Andrew were on their way to the company. Andrew said, “Isabella, take my grandpa’s words seriously. He is just worried about me. I’m not in a hurry to get married. We can do it whenever you’re ready. I fear it would burden you.”
“Okay,” Isabella agreed. But deep inside, she thought she should discuss this matter with her parents. However, there was something much more important than this. The medicine in the lab was waiting to be produced, and she had to prioritize it first.
“You go to the company. I have something to deal with.”
Andrew could not ask anything. He and Isabella parted ways. Isabella returned home and changed her clothes. Then, she went to the laboratory.
Upon her arrival at the laboratory, she was about to enter when she heard talking inside. “What? Is that true? How can our boss be with such a vulgar woman? He must be out of his mind! Miss Riggs is such a good woman. What a pity our boss doesn’t realize that.”
Isabella pushed the door open and walked in. Belen was on the phone, sighing. As soon as she saw Isabella, she quickly hung up. “Dr. Mia, the extraction hasn’t been completed yet. It will probably take another day or two.”
Isabella looked at Belen and asked, “What were you talking about just now?”
Belen knew gossiping about the boss behind his back was inappropriate. “It’s nothing. A friend called me, and we talked about random things. Come, I’ll take you to see the extraction.”
Isabella found that only ninety percent of the ingredients could be extracted, and she was not very satisfied. She wanted more. If they wanted the medicine to be effective, every step must be perfect and accurate. There should be no room for mistakes.
When Belen saw the expression on Isabella’s face, she immediately understood. She said, “We are making progress every day. It will take another two days to extract the purest ingredients according to your requirements.”
If this went on, it would take a long time to produce the medicine.
“I’ll join you in doing the experiment.”
After saying this, Isabella changed her clothes and began experimenting with them.
Doing scientific research was actually very difficult, especially when it came to medical ones. Since Isabella led them this time, their progress took a step forward.
Isabella was proficient in medicinal materials and laboratory equipment. This afternoon, she gained more admiration from everyone. When they looked at her, their eyes were filled with respect.
“Dr. Mia, you are awesome!”
“Yes, that’s right! Thanks to you, the time to develop the medicine has been shortened again.”
“Since we have reached this far, what shall we do next?”
Isabella answered, “What we have to do now is to continuously adjust the component ratio and then conduct tests. I expect it to take five to ten days. When there is progress, I will come over to look.”
“Alright!”
Everyone was excited about it. They had been researching and studying this medicine for a long time, and finally, it would be completed.
Belen was full of vigor. She seemed to be lost in deep thought. Even when the people around her were boisterous, she did not react. Suddenly, someone pushed her.
“Belen, what’s wrong? We’ve achieved something today. Are you not happy? Once this medicine is completed, it can benefit many people. We can also get a lot of bonuses.”
“Of course I am happy,” Belen said, snapping back to reality.
Seeing Belen’s expression, Isabella changed her outfit and exited the lab. It was getting dark. Andrew had completed his work, and they planned to meet at the hospital.
Inside the hospital ward, Jada was passing the time by playing chess with Damari.
“Andrew, Isabella, you’re back,” Jada called out, welcoming them as though she were part of the Klein family and hosting on behalf of Damari.
Andrew disregarded her, while Isabella merely smiled.
Damari spoke to Isabella. “Your parents were here this afternoon. Tell them not to worry about me. I’m doing well.”
Isabella replied quietly.
With their arrival, the mood in the ward grew more vibrant and cheerful. They engaged in conversation, and soon, another pair arrived. It was Bruno and Dora. Both of them looked worn out. Andrew’s expression became gloomy and unfriendly when he saw them. Bruno, avoiding Andrew’s gaze, turned to Damari and inquired, “Dad, how are you feeling?”
Damari grunted dismissively, showing no interest in conversing with them.
Dora, visibly distressed, had reached out to Andrew earlier in the day, hoping he would help get Corbett out of the police station. Since Andrew had ignored their pleas, they decided to turn to Damari, knowing Andrew might listen to his advice.
“Dad, Corbett has been taken to the police station. You know the conditions there. How can he withstand it?”
“If he can’t handle it, he should not have committed the acts he did!” Damari retorted sharply, his severity startling everyone present.
Dora bit her lip and said, “Corbett hasn’t done anything wrong. It’s all a misunderstanding.”
“If it truly is a misunderstanding, then the police will release him once they figure that out,” Damari responded with detached calmness.
Dora was visibly uneasy. She knew that Corbett was guilty, but how had Andrew obtained the evidence?
Dora couldn’t stand the thought of her only son behind bars. She kept giving Bruno meaningful glances.
Reluctantly, Bruno said, “Dad, I understand Corbett has disappointed you this time, but you’ve always overlooked him since his childhood. He’s been trying to make you proud. Corbett is our only grandson. His imprisonment would tarnish your name too, wouldn’t it? Dad, I assure you, once Corbett is out, he won’t try to be the CEO of the company again. Please, help him!” Damari turned away and shut his eyes.
Yet, Bruno could see that his words had affected Damari. Damari had only two grandsons, and the thought of one in jail was unbearable. Bruno waited hopefully for Damari’s response. If Damari consented, Andrew would have to relent, regardless of his own wishes.
Humph! Perhaps Corbett could still find a way to outdo Andrew in the future!
“Everyone must face the consequences of their actions. Just because he’s my grandson, should he be exempt from responsibility?” Damari responded unexpectedly. Bruno’s expression darkened. “Dad, will you really just watch Corbett be sent to jail?”
“Your words imply that he is indeed guilty. Then shouldn’t he face the consequences?” Damari retorted.
But Bruno and Dora were not convinced by Damari’s stance and realized he would not intervene for Corbett. Dora, overwhelmed by emotion, said bitterly, “If you hadn’t favored Andrew, would Corbett be in this position? He’s always been overshadowed by Andrew. If he hadn’t cared about making you proud, how could he have strived so hard? Yes, he made a mistake this time, but aren’t you also to blame?”
Bruno lowered his voice and said, “Stop it! How can you speak to my father like that?” Although he was reprimanding his wife, his voice lacked anger.
Damari remained silent.
Andrew then said, “You may go now. Even if Grandpa were to agree, I would not. Corbett’s offenses extend beyond what you know. Do you want me to lay them out for you?”
His gaze was dark and icy, and his presence seemed to fill the room with a chilling aura. In Andrew’s heart, there was no room for mercy. He had been patient with Corbett only to wait for the opportunity to confront him when the time was right.
Dora was beyond tears. She understood her husband too well. Corbett had likely done far worse. Reluctantly, Dora softened her approach. “Andrew, Corbett is your cousin. He’s been misguided. He’s now seen the difference between you and him. Could you consider giving him another chance? I promise to keep a closer eye on him from now on and ensure he doesn’t make mistakes again. Managing the Klein Group alone must be exhausting for you. Surely there are tasks Corbett could help with. The unity between you two is more important than anything else.”
Andrew mentioned, “Corbett has always been overshadowed by me. So why should I keep such a dangerous individual close?” A slight smile appeared on Andrew’s face, as though he found the suggestion amusing.
Dora’s expression shifted abruptly.
“Leave now. Don’t disturb Grandpa’s rest,” she commanded coldly.
Dora hesitated, clearly wanting to say more, but before she could speak, a few men in black appeared at her side. Without a word, they swiftly threw both Bruno and Dora out. The action was so swift that no one present had a chance to react.
Jada’s eyes widened in shock. While bodyguards were common in wealthy families—and she had had them as a child—Andrew’s were exceptional, having remained unseen and unnoticed. It became clear that Andrew wielded far more power than it appeared.
As she glanced at Andrew, Jada’s heart began to race. Damari and Isabella were not overly surprised; they both understood that Andrew was exceptional.
“Forget them. It’s their own fault,” Damari reassured Andrew, then sighed. “It’s also my fault.”
“It’s not your fault, Grandpa. You’re wonderful, but they are just too greedy,” Andrew replied coldly.
Jada added, “That’s right, Damari. Without you and Andrew, the Klein Group wouldn’t be where it is today, and they wouldn’t have become a part of the esteemed Klein family. They just fail to see this.”
“Well, don’t linger here. It’s late. You all should go home,” Damari said, indicating he wanted to rest.
Jada turned to Isabella and said, “Isabella, why don’t you head back? I’ll stay with Damari. Andrew will likely stay as well, and we can manage. You’ve worked hard today, so you should get some rest.”
Isabella’s face remained neutral. Although she appeared considerate, she was actually eager to stay with Andrew; she still longed to be with him.
“I’ll stay here. You both can head home,” Andrew said. Jada dared not protest when faced with his commanding gaze. She nodded and left with Isabella.
