“Yes.”
“I’ll be right there.”
After Andrew ended the call, his assistant quickly asked, “Boss, are you heading back? There is still a meeting.”
“Have the vice president cover it,” Andrew replied immediately.
The assistant set about making the necessary arrangements.
As she waited for Andrew, Isabella received a call from Elaine.
Elaine and Glenn were aware of Andrew’s situation and wanted to have dinner with them that evening. Isabella agreed but hesitated before mentioning the little boy.
“Sure, bring him along,” Elaine said with a smile.
Isabella went upstairs to get the boy and then told Andrew to come directly to her parents’ house. Elaine immediately took a liking to the little boy when she saw him.
“What a darling little boy!” Elaine said, lifting him up with a warm smile. “How old are you?”
“Madam, I’m four years old,” the boy replied in a charming tone. “And you’re so beautiful.”
“Aw! You’re so sweet for your age,” Elaine chuckled, cradling the little boy in her arms. “Would you like some snacks?”
As she munched on chips with the boy, their laughter filled the room, creating a joyful atmosphere. Glenn watched them and remarked, “Your mother is finally experiencing the joy of a child’s innocence.”
“Why do you say that? Didn’t Mom raise my brothers?” Isabella asked.
“Of three brothers, Dane was exceptionally mischievous from a young age; Howard was adorable and also very clever, starting to study robotics and compete while still quite young. As for Waylon…” Glenn paused, but Isabella understood. Waylon was likely quite mischievous as a child based on his current traits.
Ten minutes later, Andrew returned.
Glenn and Elaine welcomed him, and the family gathered at the dinner table. The atmosphere was vibrant. Glenn showed great concern for Andrew.
Elaine reassured Andrew, saying, “You shouldn’t worry too much about what’s said online. People often vent their frustrations through the internet.”
“I know. Thank you,” Andrew said, softening his tone.
“Eat more,” Isabella encouraged, serving food to Andrew.
“Thank you, honey.” Andrew’s eyes brightened, and the chill that usually surrounded him melted away instantly. He felt their warmth deeply.
Andrew had been orphaned as a child and raised by his grandmother. He often envied others who had parents. As he grew older, this feeling faded. Yet now, that old envy resurfaced.
Andrew cast his eyes downward, careful to conceal his feelings.
After the meal, Andrew expressed his gratitude to Elaine and Glenn, then departed with Isabella.
The two of them walked hand in hand to the gate of Isabella’s villa. Andrew paused, looking at Isabella with a serious expression. An almost unnoticeable loneliness seemed to surround him.
“What’s wrong?” Isabella asked gently, picking up on his mood.
“Thank you, Isabella.”
“Why are you thanking me so suddenly?” Isabella looked at Andrew and noticed a deep tenderness in his eyes. Andrew said, “I didn’t know what it was like to have parents, but now you make me feel that… The atmosphere of your family is good.”
Isabella felt a pang in her heart. Andrew’s gaze was soft, yet she knew the hidden bitterness within him.
Andrew always appeared confident and decisive, but few could understand the struggles he had suffered. What kind of life did Andrew lead as a child without his parents?
“Don’t worry about me. We had a similar childhood. Even though my parents weren’t around, my grandpa took good care of me.” Andrew touched her face and added, “It’s similar to how your grandmother took care of you when you were a child.”
“Well, I wish they were still alive,” Isabella whispered. Even though she didn’t specify, Andrew understood she was talking about his parents.
At times, Andrew wished his parents were still alive, too. Yet, other times, he thought it might be better if they were deceased. If they were alive and had chosen to see him…
“I don’t care anymore. Try to get some rest early.” Andrew gently stroked Isabella’s soft, long hair.
“I’ll stay with you,” Isabella said, looking into his eyes. “That’s all I need.” A smile lit up Andrew’s handsome face.
They parted ways and returned to their own villas.
Isabella felt particularly unsettled after reading the harsh comments online about Andrew. Corbett was playing a dangerous game!
She made a call to Jared.
After that, she put the little boy to bed and went to sleep herself.
Meanwhile, an incident occurred involving Corbett that evening. Corbett and Tatiana were on a date. In the car, Corbett wrapped his arm around Tatiana’s waist and said, “Tatiana, you’re the best. You did a great job. Sales of our phone have skyrocketed. Now the Klein Group should be in a mess. I should be able to force a leadership change soon.”
“You did a great job, too, Corbett,” Tatiana complimented him.
“You are so adorable!” Corbett affectionately tapped Tatiana’s nose. When he was in high spirits, he was exceptionally tender. Yet, Tatiana felt a chill in her heart.
She tried not to think too much. Despite Corbett’s unpredictable moods, he was poised to inherit the Klein Group.
That was enough to secure her status above others. Desire flashed in Corbett’s eyes. He began to slowly undress Tatiana. Instinctively, Tatiana tried to stop him. “We are in the car. Let’s go back first.”
“Do you think this is more thrilling?” The man’s voice was captivating, and Tatiana found his strength irresistible.
Tatiana had no other option but to comply.
Half an hour later, exhausted, Tatiana was dropped off at her home. Meanwhile, Corbett, in high spirits, drove toward his residence. As he traveled down a secluded road, suddenly, several cars encircled him.
Corbett narrowed his eyes.
Was Andrew behind this attack?
Rolling down his window, Corbett warned, “I suggest you reconsider. If you harm me, I’ll call Grandpa right away. I know Andrew sent you…”
Before he could finish, another car slammed into his. Corbett reached for the steering wheel, but it was too late. His car plummeted into a ditch!
The water wasn’t deep enough to drown a person, but it reeked terribly. With the car window still open, the foul-smelling water rushed in, assaulting his senses. Corbett fought the urge to vomit, knowing that opening his mouth would mean swallowing the dirty water. Struggling, Corbett managed to climb out through the window.
Just as he gasped for air, someone grabbed his head and pushed it back under the water.
“This can’t be happening!”
This happened several times until Corbett was nearly breathless. Finally, the person left. Corbett collapsed on the bank, drenched in stinking water, and retched.
At the Klein Manor, when Corbett returned, his mother was horrified to see his state. “Corbett, what happened to you? Corbett!”
Corbett could barely get a word out before collapsing onto the floor, completely drained of strength. Dora rushed over, but as soon as she approached, the overpowering stench hit her. The smell was so foul it was as if she had stumbled into a filthy restroom. Despite her discomfort, she gritted her teeth, assessed Corbett’s condition, and quickly called for the doctor.
A servant bathed Corbett, and the doctor examined him. “Nothing too serious. He passed out from sheer exhaustion.”
Dora let out a sigh of relief, but concern lingered. As soon as Corbett woke up, she asked urgently, “Corbett, what happened? Did you fall?”
“It was Andrew!” Corbett spat out.
“What did he do to you?”
“He did this to me. I was in my car when someone rammed into me, and I ended up falling into a ditch. It had to be Andrew!” Corbett’s eyes blazed with hatred.
Dora’s anger flared up as well. “Andrew did this because he can’t stand losing to you. Tomorrow, I’ll make sure your grandfather knows about this and punishes him.”
“Alright.”
The following morning, bright and early, Damari was already up, doing his exercises in the yard. It was before Damari, Bruno, and Corbett arrived. Damari noticed the three of them approaching and sensed that something was wrong, but he didn’t say a word, calmly continuing his exercises.
