Susan kept crying, unable to stop the tears from flowing. Isabella, not fully grasping why Susan was so distressed, remained with her quietly.

After what seemed like forever, Susan finally composed herself, her eyes red and swollen. “The truth is, Jada once took one of my friends away from me. She betrayed me. Jada has a knack for manipulating people, making them do her bidding.”

“I’ve noticed,” Isabella replied gently.

Andrew’s friends were all close to Jada, which made it clear she wasn’t as straightforward as she appeared.

“I don’t care about that old friend now, but the thought of losing you to Jada is just too much,” Susan confessed, tears streaming down her face once more.

Isabella finally understood why Susan had reacted so strongly upon seeing Jada. Her heart ached for her friend. She embraced Susan in a comforting hug. “I promise, Susan, I’ll only be friends with you. Jada won’t be part of my life.”

Susan nodded, her expression softening. “I know you won’t be deceived by her.”

“So, let’s stop the tears, alright? If you keep crying, your eyes will get all puffy,” Isabella said soothingly as she gently wiped Susan’s tears.

Susan took a deep breath, making an effort to compose herself and calm down.

Suddenly, Isabella’s face changed as a thought occurred to her. “Susan, can you tell me how your friend betrayed you?”

“It happened when we were in elementary school. She asked to come and play, but she just left me waiting for a really long time. Eventually, my dad had to come look for me. When I told him I was waiting for a friend, he didn’t believe me and thought I was making it up since I was by myself,” Susan recounted, her voice calm despite the painful memory.

“I see. Susan, do you want to get back at Jada in the same way?” Isabella asked with a smile.

Her smile had a mischievous edge to it, and Susan’s curiosity was piqued. “Isabella, have you cooked up a plan?”

“Yes. I’ve got a plan.” Isabella whispered, leaning in closer to reveal her idea to Susan.

After hearing the plan, Susan admired Isabella even more. “Okay, I’m in.”

After leaving the caf?, they went their separate ways and headed home.

On her way home, Susan got a video call from Dane. His attractive face popped up on her screen. “Done with chatting?”

“Yes. How do you always call at the perfect moment?” Susan asked, raising an eyebrow.

“Because I know you better than anyone,” Dane said with a playful grin. His smile reminded Susan of Isabella, as the siblings shared a similar charm.

“Already Isabella,” Susan confessed.

“But you just met her, right?”

“Yes, but she’s just incredible. She’s so cool. If she were a guy, I’d probably fall for her,” Susan exclaimed.

Dane was puzzled. Was his sister in love—with her own friend?

While they continued their playful conversation, Isabella was on her way home, which was not far off.

As she walked past an alley, Isabella heard some noises. She glanced over but saw nothing out of the ordinary. Shaking her head, she thought she must have imagined it and turned to leave. But just as she was about to take another step, a hulking figure appeared in front of her. Two more men emerged from behind him.

“Hey there, beautiful, all alone?” the first hooligan smiled, his eyes scanning her up and down.

Isabella instinctively took a step back, her face showing fear. “What do you want?”

“Just looking to get to know you better,” he said, moving closer with a sleazy grin.

Without any warning, he lunged forward, reaching out to grab Isabella.

Isabella let out a scream and instinctively crouched down.

“Get your hands off my friend!”

Out of nowhere, someone dashed forward and shoved the first hooligan aside.

“Who in the world are you?” The hooligan glanced at the newcomer with a smirk. “Another pretty woman? Looks like my luck’s on fire today!”

When Isabella heard the familiar voice, her eyes flew open, and she found Jada standing protectively before her. Surprised, she quickly got to her feet. “Jada? What are you doing here?”

“I happened to be passing by. Seeing you come here, I wanted to remind you that it’s not safe here.” With a steely gaze, Jada calmly addressed the hooligans. “Do you have any idea who we are? You really can’t afford to cross us. Now, leave this place!”

“Hmph! Young lady, don’t get too full of yourself. I’m quite curious to find out why I can’t afford to cross you,” the hooligan taunted, charging forward.

Jada grabbed a stick from the ground and swung it at them. “Get out of here now—I’ve already called the police!”

“Do you honestly think I’ll believe you?”

With swift movements, Jada struggled to fend off the hooligans’ relentless assault. As their attacks grew fiercer, she spun around and urged, “Run now, Isabella!”

“What about you?” With a worried expression, Isabella exclaimed, immediately calling Andrew.

“It’s fine—I’ve already called the police. You should go ahead and get out of here first,” Jada exuded a steadfast confidence, her presence radiating a reassuring sense of security.

Isabella stubbornly shook her head, refusing to run.

“I guarantee neither of you is getting away!” A hooligan snatched the stick from Jada’s grasp and lunged to grab her.

But before he could lay a hand on Jada, he was abruptly kicked aside.

Just a minute later, all three hooligans were on the ground.

Jada, visibly relieved and on the verge of collapsing, turned to Andrew, who had intervened. “Andrew, you showed up just in time!”

“What on earth happened?” Andrew approached Isabella and scrutinized her from head to toe worriedly. As Jada watched Andrew’s actions, a flicker of unreadable emotion passed through her eyes. She said, “I noticed Isabella had come here and wanted to warn her about the danger. I imagined those hooligans would corner her like this. Thankfully, you arrived just in time; I shudder to think what we would have suffered.”

“Are you all right?” Andrew then turned his gaze toward Jada.

Her face pale, Jada smiled and said, “I’m fine.”

“Jada, I can’t thank you enough,” Isabella said.

“It’s nothing. I’d help anyone, even a stranger, let alone a friend. You should be more cautious out there,” Jada said gently.

“Okay.”

“Could I have your number? Some areas in Arasport can be quite dangerous. I’ll message you some tips later.” Jada pulled out her phone.

This time, Isabella didn’t hesitate to comply.

After exchanging numbers with Isabella, Jada asked Andrew to escort Isabella back so she could get some rest.

Watching them walk away, Jada smiled.

The hooligans on the ground scrambled to their feet and offered Jada a respectful bow.

“Miss Riggs.”

Jada pulled out a few bills and said, “Here is the payment.”

“Thank you, Miss Riggs. Don’t hesitate to call us if you need us again.” The men flashed a grin.

“Again?”

Jada replied with a soft, “Alright.” Yet, there was a hint of icy coldness in her smile.

Jada pulled out her phone and dialed Mara’s number. “Mom, I’ve done it. Isabella won’t be Susan’s friend anymore. She’ll be joining us shortly.”

“Jada, you’re incredible! There’s nothing in this world you can’t do!” Mara smiled and added, “I was concerned that Isabella might stand in your way, but I didn’t expect you to become friends with her. However, it seems that Isabella and Susan have known each other for quite some time.”

“So what? Isabella’s no fool; she’s sharp enough to weigh the pros and cons. It’s better for her to stick with me, especially since she owes me a big favor now.” Jada watched the luxury car drive away, her eyes gleaming with pride and a touch of arrogance.
