Just then, Milly exited the elevator and immediately called Howard upon spotting Isabella. “What’s going on?” Howard’s voice was calm.
Milly informed him, “Miss Patton is back at work.”
Howard chuckled and said, “She returned yesterday. Everything is fine.”
“Okay.”
After ending the call, Milly approached Isabella. She gazed at her with big, expressive eyes, her look filled with concern, but she said nothing.
Isabella found Milly’s expression endearing. “I’m really okay. I’m sorry for worrying you.”
“Well, Howard is also worried,” Milly mentioned.
“It was just an accident. It won’t happen again.”
“That’s a relief.”
“How’s the preparation for the fashion show going?” Isabella asked Maxine.
“I’ve been rehearsing these past few days. The show is the day after tomorrow.”
“If I can, I’ll come watch,” Isabella replied.
Maxine smiled and raised her eyebrows. “Okay.”
Isabella then headed back to her office.
She received a lot of concern from people that morning.
Around noon, Susan called.
“Urgh… Waah…” It was sobbing.
Isabella inquired, “What’s wrong? Susan, what happened to your grandpa?”
“Waaah… Waah… I only just found out what happened to you. Are you alright? Were you in a car accident?” Susan sobbed, blaming herself.
“I’m okay.”
Isabella started a video call to put Susan at ease.
Seeing Isabella alive and well brought tears of relief to Susan’s eyes. “I’m so relieved you’re okay. Was it an accident?”
“It wasn’t an accident. Eliza was involved. She’s been put in prison now.”
Susan was remorseful. “I had no idea what happened to you. I’m so sorry.”
“Don’t worry about it,” Isabella said, comforting her. “Your grandpa just woke up. It’s only right that you focus on taking care of him and not let other things stress you out.”
“Alright,” Susan said with a nod, though her expression still showed signs of concern.
“My grandfather’s health has improved significantly now. Are you free for dinner this evening, Isabella? Feel free to bring Mr. Klein along if you’d like,” she added.
“That sounds good to me,” Isabella responded with a smile.
Once she ended the call, Isabella promptly called Andrew to tell him about the dinner plan.
Meanwhile, in the CEO’s office at Klein Group, Andrew was seated comfortably on the sofa, pouring himself a cup of coffee, while Dane sat across from him. They were discussing a business partnership that had been progressing smoothly. Dane was somewhat taken aback by how agreeable Andrew was; he’d never seen him so relaxed and easygoing.
He then decided to shift the conversation to more personal topics and asked, “How does your grandfather feel about your marriage with Isabella?”
“My grandfather is very supportive of it. He’s quite fond of Isabella,” Andrew replied.
“That’s great to hear,” Dane said, taking a sip of his coffee. Just then, Andrew’s phone rang, and his face softened as he picked up the call.
Dane could make out Isabella’s voice faintly on the line. Once the call ended, he asked, “So, was that Isabella inviting you to dinner this evening?”
“Yes, that’s right,” Andrew affirmed.
Noticing Dane’s reaction, he quickly asked, “Would you like to join us?”
Dane cleared his throat before replying, “Since you’ve extended the invitation, I’ll come along. I hope I won’t be an inconvenience.”
“Not at all,” Andrew assured him, maintaining a modest tone.
Dane was starting to feel more pleased with Andrew. At six o’clock that evening, Susan arrived at the restaurant and waited eagerly for Isabella to show up.
She had selected a charming venue with a delightful ambiance, complete with the soft strains of live piano music filling the air.
Before long, Isabella arrived at the restaurant.
After they exchanged pleasantries, Susan asked with curiosity, “So, where’s your boyfriend?”
“He’ll be arriving shortly,” Isabella replied with a warm smile.
As expected, Andrew arrived soon after. He made quite an impression as he walked through the door. However, there was a tall, imposing figure accompanying him. The restaurant seemed to light up as the two men entered. Susan was shocked to see the man who was with Andrew.
Andrew and Dane were just as surprised, stopping dead in their tracks when they saw Susan.
Isabella was also startled when she saw Dane. At that moment, each person had a whirlwind of thoughts running through their minds.
Finally, Andrew broke the silence with a slight chuckle. “Isabella, I didn’t expect to see your friend here.”
“Oh, yes, I’m sorry I forgot to mention it,” Isabella said, a touch of guilt in her voice as she looked apologetically at Susan.
Dane’s handsome features momentarily tightened, but then a hint of pleasure appeared in his eyes as he glanced at Susan. “Since your friend is here, I’ll take my leave,” he said.
“Oh, it’s alright. Let’s have dinner together,” Susan suggested gently, feeling a bit awkward. She knew it wouldn’t be polite to ask Dane to leave, especially since he was Isabella’s brother.
Dane, hearing this, made no objections and settled into the seat beside Susan.
Andrew took his place next to Isabella.
The mood was a bit tense. Susan turned to Isabella and offered, “Please order whatever you like to eat.”
Isabella nodded and picked a few dishes. Then Susan turned to Dane, striving to keep her tone even, and said, “What about you? Feel free to order whatever you like.”
“Sure thing,” he responded, quickly scanning the menu before choosing the simplest dish and a pot of hot strawberry milk.
Isabella noticed this and couldn’t help but tease, “Dane, when did you start drinking hot strawberry milk? Isn’t that more of a girl’s drink?”
She hadn’t expected Dane to deviate so much from his usual self.
But as soon as Isabella made the comment, it hit her. Since she and Susan typically had their periods around the same time, it must be that time for Susan.
Isabella quickly connected the dots and gave Dane a knowing glance. Dane replied calmly, “It’s cold outside. Drinking something warm will do you good. I ordered it for you.”
“Oh, okay,” Isabella said, though she wasn’t convinced at all.
She looked back and forth between Dane and Susan with increasing curiosity. Dane kept casting furtive glances at Susan, who remained focused on ordering more dishes, seemingly oblivious to his attention.
Throughout dinner, Susan mostly chatted with Isabella.
At one point, she turned to Isabella and Andrew and said, “Isabella, it’s clear how well you and Mr. Klein go together. You guys make such a great match.”
“Oh, thank you,” Isabella responded with a shy smile.
“I’m speaking the truth,” Susan said with a smile, a touch of admiration in her voice. “I genuinely envy what you two have.”
