Gilbert’s discomfort grew. Part of him wondered if Isabella had changed because of their breakup. Maybe she was more affected by it than he had realized.

As Eliza excused herself to go to the restroom, Gilbert seized the opportunity to approach Isabella’s table. His steps faltered slightly as he neared. The man sitting across from her was even more striking up close—sharp features, natural charisma, and an air of confidence that was impossible to ignore.

Isabella and Andrew exuded an unmistakable aura of a couple, their connection undeniable. A twinge of jealousy surged through Gilbert as he slid into the seat beside Isabella.

When she noticed him, her eyes flashed with clear disgust. “Get lost,” she snapped, her tone icy.

Gilbert ignored her cold reaction, convinced that her attitude was simply a result of being hurt after he abandoned her. “Isabella, our breakup must have been hard on you. If you’re feeling down, just come to me. I’ll help you through it, okay?”

He stared at her, a wave of remorse washing over him. Had Isabella truly been the daughter of the Chapman Group’s CEO, he would never have left her. To him, having such a beautiful girlfriend had been a status symbol.

“Get lost,” Isabella repeated, her voice even colder.

“Isabella, don’t be so stubborn. You weren’t one to date casually before. Seeing you like this, I’m sure you still have feelings for me,” Gilbert pressed, sure of his insight.

Isabella was left utterly speechless. How had she not seen Gilbert’s repulsive nature before? She shook her head, grateful to be rid of him. If only she had known, she wouldn’t have cared so much when the Santos family fell from grace.

Meanwhile, Eliza returned from the restroom, only to find Gilbert seated next to Isabella. Fury ignited within her.

“Isabella, don’t you have any shame?” she spat, her temper flaring.

In her rage, Eliza threw her cup of coffee toward Isabella, but before it could reach her, Andrew intervened smoothly, deflecting the cup and causing the coffee to splash all over Eliza’s expensive outfit instead.

Eliza’s face turned bright red, her outfit now ruined. Seething with fury, she pointed a trembling finger at Isabella. “It’s bad enough you have a pretty boy at your side, but now you’ve let him assault me too!”

“If you don’t leave right now, the next move will be mine,” Isabella shot back, her patience worn thin, her gaze cold and unrelenting.

Seeing the situation escalating, Gilbert quickly grabbed Eliza’s arm, trying to steer her back to their table. “Let’s just sit down and eat,” he murmured, anxious to avoid further embarrassment.

However, back at the table, thoughts of Isabella still gnawed at Gilbert. Unable to shake his fixation, he impulsively sent Isabella a text message.

“If you’re still hung up on me, how about being my secret lover? I can offer you ten thousand a month. Deal?”

Gilbert was certain Isabella would accept his proposal—who could resist such an offer?

His phone pinged almost immediately. Grinning, he eagerly opened the message, expecting her reply, only to find it was nothing more than spam. Annoyed, he deleted it, missing the brief moment of satisfaction he had anticipated.

At the same time, Eliza’s phone buzzed. She opened the message, and her expression quickly soured with rage. It was a screenshot from Isabella—of Gilbert’s disgusting proposal.

Eliza’s fury boiled over. How could Gilbert have the audacity to send such a message to Isabella? What did it mean for her? That damn Isabella must have seduced him!

Her bitterness seethed as she turned to confront Gilbert. “Do you even love me?” she demanded, her voice trembling with anger.

“Of course I love you, silly. Why would you even ask that?” Gilbert replied, his voice soft and reassuring.

“I just… feel insecure,” Eliza muttered, her voice cracking. “You and Isabella were together for a long time…”

Gilbert quickly soothed her, “We were only together because of the engagement. Nothing real ever happened between us. It wasn’t until I met you that I truly understood what love meant.”

Eliza let out a shaky breath, reassured by his words.

Meanwhile, Andrew glanced at Isabella, his expression unreadable. “Who was that?” he asked casually.

“That was my ex-fianc?,” Isabella replied, her voice calm despite the tension.

Andrew’s face betrayed nothing, his demeanor remaining composed as he continued eating, every movement refined and graceful. But Isabella couldn’t shake the feeling that something about his reaction was off. Yet, she couldn’t pinpoint what it was, so she pushed the thought aside and returned to her meal.

After they finished eating, they stepped outside, only to find Eliza posing dramatically next to a car while Gilbert snapped photos of her.

Eliza, still enamored with the sight of Isabella’s car, was caught up in her own self-importance. She struck a pose, confident that Isabella was just as captivated by the car.

“Isabella, do you like our car?” Eliza called out, tossing her hair in a show of confidence.

Isabella’s faint smile widened slightly. “Your car?”

“Absolutely,” Eliza replied, holding tightly to Gilbert’s arm. “Gilbert bought it for me! Isn’t it breathtaking?”

Gilbert noticed Isabella’s focus on the vehicle. Isabella had always been composed, never one to display a strong liking for anything material. But this car seemed to possess a unique charm, one that even Isabella found hard to ignore.

When Eliza falsely claimed ownership of the luxurious car, Gilbert remained silent, eager to see the look of regret and envy on Isabella’s face.

“Then, can I borrow your car?” Isabella asked, her tone calm and casual.

“Behave, and maybe I’ll let you borrow it,” Eliza replied smugly. “Gilbert spent a small fortune on this car. Tell you what—kneel and call us ‘Mom and Dad,’ and maybe I’ll let you drive it.”

Gilbert winced internally at Eliza’s crude suggestion but remained intrigued, wondering if Isabella would stoop to such humiliation. He added his own taunt to stir the pot. “Isabella, your ‘pretty boy’ surely can’t afford something like this, right? Just think—say a few words, and you could be driving this, flaunting it on social media. Imagine the envy you’d stir.”

Unfazed, Isabella’s reply was steady. “Really? Then unlock the doors first.”

“Kneel down first, and then we’ll open the doors!” Eliza shot back, folding her arms, her smugness uncontainable.

The surrounding crowd whispered amongst themselves, their admiration for the car clear.

“This car is stunning! I wish I could own something like that.”

“Maybe ask the owner if you can take a picture with it?”

“It’s got to be worth tens of millions.”

Eliza reveled in the attention, feeling every inch the proud owner of the luxurious car. Her ego soared under the envious stares of the crowd.

“If you can’t open the doors, just move aside,” Isabella said icily, no longer interested in entertaining their antics.

Eliza, assuming Isabella merely wanted a photo with the car, blocked her path. “Want to take pictures? You’ll need my permission first,” she declared haughtily.

Isabella had enough. With a sharp tone, she retorted, “Enough with the nonsense.” She pulled out a car key, and the headlights blinked in response.

A stunned silence washed over the onlookers.

With a confident stride, Isabella pushed Eliza aside, opened the door, and slid into the driver’s seat. Eliza, overwhelmed with shock, stumbled backward, her face drained of color. She collapsed onto the pavement, disbelief clouding her vision.

The murmurs around them grew louder.

“Oh my God, they don’t actually own the car?”

“Why would they lie about something like that?”

“So, that stunning woman is the actual owner? She’s absolutely gorgeous.”

“That woman pretended to be high and mighty but was showing off with someone else’s car. How pathetic!”

“She’s a madwoman—asking that girl to kneel? Who does she think she is?”

Eliza’s self-satisfied grin quickly evaporated as the realization set in. The car belonged to Isabella, not her. The disapproving stares from the crowd left her humiliated. In a panic, Gilbert quickly ushered her away, desperate to escape the embarrassment.

Once they were in their own car, Gilbert’s frustration boiled over. “Why did you have to make those remarks earlier? Now we look like fools.”

“If you hadn’t just stood there, I wouldn’t have been embarrassed alone!” Eliza snapped, feeling the sting of humiliation. “But you didn’t stop me, did you?”

Gilbert bit back his retort, momentarily at a loss for words. “I had to back you up. Otherwise, you’d have been humiliated on your own.”

Eliza flushed with embarrassment as they watched Isabella drive away in the car that had caused their downfall. After a tense silence, Eliza finally spoke, her voice shaky. “Gilbert, take me to the Chapman Group.”

“Why? Are you meeting with your dad?”

“No,” Eliza replied, feigning shyness. “I’ve started working at the Chapman Group.”

Her words caught Gilbert by surprise. Isabella hadn’t managed to work her way into the company in years, but Eliza had quickly made her entrance, solidifying her position with the support of her parents. It only highlighted how deeply her family valued her.
