Someone interrupted Bruce by placing a hand on his shoulder.
Bruce turned his head and saw Bryan, glaring at him.
Sophia was stunned. She struggled with Bruce’s grip. She had always misunderstood Bryan. Now she did not want him to misunderstand her.
Bryan glanced at Sophia’s hand, which Bruce was holding firmly, then said,
“Leave her.”
Sophia felt exactly the same as the night when she realized that he was her mate. That night, just like this time, he told Bruce to leave her.
“But, Brother, I am talking to her,” Bruce replied, refusing to let go of her hand.
Bryan grabbed Bruce’s wrist and yanked it away from Sophia’s hand.
He then pushed Bruce’s hand and stood before Sophia, blocking Bruce’s sight to see her.
Sophia looked at Bryan’s strong back, shielding her from his brother.
“Brother, you betrayed me. You married the woman I love. How can you do that to your own brother? You never loved me. You always came between me and my ways. You got the pack under your rule; I never said anything. Then you snatched the woman I loved. How can you get everything while I have nothing? Why is it so unfair?”
Sophia shook her head. Bruce did not know how much his brother loved him. He even sacrificed his love for him years ago. Sophia knew how much Bryan cared for his brother. She had seen that when she used to be his secretary.
Sophia was about to say something to Bruce. But before that, Bryan warned Bruce,
“Think whatever you want; I don’t care. But stay away from my wife. If you dare to touch her again, I will forget that you are my brother.”
Bruce’s eyes widened.
Sophia parted her lips with surprise. She felt warmth in her heart when Bryan called her his ‘wife’.
Bryan grabbed her hand and opened the bedroom’s door. They got into the room.
As soon as Bryan closed the door, he let go of Sophia’s hand. She stared at her hand for a while. She could still feel his touch on her hand.
She raised her head and saw him going to the bathroom. After a few minutes, he came out wearing casual clothes.
Sophia was almost lost when he looked at him carefully. He was a strikingly good looking man. No matter how long she stared at her, it was nothing.
He grabbed a bottle of wine and a glass, then went to sit on the couch.
She was worried when she noticed that he was drinking a lot lately. She had never seen him drink so much before. In truth, he was a chain smoker who drank less.
He did not look at her and ignored her as if she were not in the room. She sighed and went to the closet to get something to wear. She found a lot of night dresses. She grabbed a nightgown and went to the bathroom to change her clothes. She decided to talk to Bryan about everything tonight.
When she walked out of the bathroom, she saw Bryan still drinking.
She bit her bottom lip, wondering how she would approach him.
With slow steps, she walked toward him. But he did not give a glance at her.
As he was about to pour another glass of wine, Sophia held his hand, which was holding the bottle.
“Don’t drink too much,” she mumbled in a low tone.
Bryan ignored her words and tried to move his hand, but she gripped it tightly. She did not want him to drink. It was her responsibility, as his wife, to stop him.
But Bryan was not the man who would listen to anyone.
So he yanked his hand away from her grip.
However, it caused Sophia to lose her balance and fall directly into his lap.
Sophia’s eyes widened when she found herself sitting on Bryan’s lap. She slowly raised her gaze from his chest to his face.
She gasped as soon as she saw him looking at her. His dark eyes captivated her as she felt her heart melt inside.
Her expression began to change from surprise to upset. She realized that she had missed the Bryan she knew. She missed the Bryan, who used to treat her like a princess.
A frown formed between his brows as he asked,
“Now, don’t you feel disgusted? You are sitting on my lap.”
Sophia stared at him without letting out anything. She did not want to move. She understood that if she missed this chance tonight, she would not get another chance to speak with him.
She let out a shaky tone and said,
“M-Mate”
Bryan’s frown did not ease as it deepened. But he did not push her away.
“You are just my Luna, nothing else,” he replied with a cold tone.
She did not mind his words, as she felt that he had a right to get mad at her. She shook her head and placed her hands on his chest.
She felt a calm heart under her palm. She could feel it running steadily. She often wondered why it never ran like hers. That was because he knew how to control his heart.
Bryan’s gaze moved down to her hand and then returned to her. “What do you want?”
She exhaled and mumbled while looking at his chest, “I know you are angry with me.”
He scoffed at her and grabbed her hands, then pushed them away from his chest.
“I heard Angelina explain everything to you, and you recently learned about the Moon Valley Pack from Alpha Lucas. So what happened suddenly? Changed your perception of me? Oh, how convenient!”
His words pierced her heart, but she accepted the pain. She deserved it.
She looked at his face, which was mocking her.
She stared at him, letting him mock her as much as he wanted.
She remembered how she used to love him. Did she still love him?
“I just want to apologize to you for what I have done in the last one year. I shouldn’t have revealed your business secrets; I shouldn’t have doubted your intentions; I shouldn’t have thought that you made my mom sick; I shouldn’t have thought that you ruined Victor’s lif .”
He cut her off as he wrapped his arm around her waist and pressed her chest against his.
“That man’s name can’t leave your mouth, huh?” He asked, gritting his teeth.
It was clear that he was enraged by just hearing Victor’s name from her mouth.
The day when he confessed his love to her came to her mind. That day, he treated her softly and asked her not to leave him, he begged her not to marry Victor.
She wishes she had believed him that day and not shattered his heart.
“I want to tell you that…” She struggled to find the right words to express her thoughts. She paused for a moment before continuing,
“That night at the party, I tried to push him when he kissed me. I didn’t enjoy his kiss. I wanted to push with all of my strength, but before that, you came and misunderstood me. I was mad at you and took his side in the fight.”
His grip loosened when he heard that. As if the rage had calmed a little, his expression turned less fiery.
He looked away from her and unwrapped his hands from her waist.
“Go to sleep. I will sleep on the couch.”
She looked at him with confusion. “But why?”
“Because I don’t want to make you feel uncomfortable like last night. You are here to fulfill the Luna’s duty. Just do it; I will give you the respect that you should get as the Luna of this pack, just as I said when you signed the contract.”
Sophia slowly got up from his lap while looking at him.
“That means I am just your Luna from now on.”
He turned his gaze to look at her. “Yes.”
“You don’t love me anymore?”
“I hate you, Sophia. Just like you hate me,” he replied with a sly grin.
She had the intention of talking to him about everything tonight, but she got mad after hearing him.
“You think everything is my fault? If you had told me everything every truth, when you asked me to be with you one and a half years ago, things would have been different from this.”
Bryan raised a brow as he asked,
“I only tried to save a foolish woman whose life could be in danger by learning the truth. Yes, it was all my fault. I shouldn’t have fallen for her in the first place.”
She clenched her jaw. She was mad at herself. She wanted to slap herself for not trusting Bryan in the past. He was only protecting her from the forbidden laws.
