Instead of pouring the wine into a glass, he began chugging it directly.

Robert approached him and grabbed the bottle to stop him. “You should not drink. You quit drinking a few years ago. After that, you only drink at gatherings and parties. Why are you drinking so much today?”

Bryan pushed his hand and took a few gulps. After placing the bottle on the bar, he muttered,

“How is Gamma Raphael?”

Robert took a glass, pushed it toward Bryan, and motioned for him to fill it with wine.

Bryan poured the liquor into the glass while waiting for Robert’s reply.

Robert took a sip from the glass and said, “His health is not good. I worry that he will not make it.”

Bryan let out a deep breath, thinking about Gamma Raphael. He was his man. His father was a very important man for the Moon Valley Pack. When Alpha Lucas was the head Alpha, Bryan suggested he make Raphael the next gamma. Gamma remained the same while head Alpha’s position changed. It was not easy to change the officials from their positions until they made some mistakes.

Robert noticed that Bryan looked disturbed by something. He knew the reason. That was why he sent Mila to her room, and he immediately came here to talk to him.

“Angelina called me a while ago.”

Bryan listened to him without replying. It was as if he was unconcerned.

“She told me you met Sophia and all. But what made you so angry? What happened?”

Bryan shifted his gaze at him. “Nothing happened.”

Robert grabbed his arm when he was about to walk away from the bar.

“Bryan, we have been friends for years. I know you really well. I can feel what is going on inside your head. But what Mila said was not a lie. You have been interested in Sophia for years. She was young, and you did not even know that she was your mate until she turned eighteen. But that day was really awful. It turned out to be your engagement day. All this time, I wanted you to admit your feelings for her. But now it appears that she is slipping out of your grasp.”

Bryan glared at him, muttering,

“Why can’t you all just leave me alone for a day? I am already in a mess. I am doing what I should not do. I came here to think about everything calmly.”

“Think about what? How are you going to stop her wedding with Victor? But it would not stop her from moving away from you. As far as I am aware, she denied being your mistress. How are you going to convince her to stay with you? There is no way you can call off the wedding with Mila. She will have to be the Luna of our pack.”

Bryan looked away from him and walked to the desk.

“Robert, bring me the contract.”

Robert’s eyes widened, and the hand that held the glass shook.

“W-What are you saying, Bryan?” he asked with a shaky tone.

Bryan grabbed the chair behind the desk and sat on it. His eyes locked with his, and he answered,

“You are thinking right. Take out the contract of years.”

Robert walked to the desk with a terrified face. “Bry…”

He paused himself as he took a deep breath and continued,

“Alpha, I think you had a lot of drinks today. Let’s not talk about this matter tonight.”

Bryan stared at him, giving him a blank look. “I stopped drinking years ago, but that does not mean my body can not handle a few drinks of alcohol. I am not drunk. Just do what I am saying. I need to give it a check.”

Robert understood what it meant. In the last five years, Bryan had never looked at the contract. If he wanted to check, it indicated that he was thinking about something.

He shut his eyes and exhaled. He took slow steps toward the bookshelves, grabbing the keys and opening the middle one. There was a small chest hidden behind the old books.

Robert entered the password and unlocked the chest. After taking out a black folder, he closed the bookshelf and returned to the desk.

He handed Bryan the folder after glancing at it briefly.

Bryan grabbed it and looked at Robert’s terrified expression. He opened the folder and stated,

“Stop looking so scared. I am totally fine.”

Robert lowered his head without responding to him. His eyes moved to the contract papers inside the folder that Bryan had just unfolded.

There were bold red letters that were clearly written words.

“Agreement of indemnification.”

When Bryan saw the word “indemnification’, his gaze paused. His eyes flashed red for a moment as the past flickered in his mind for a moment.

“Alpha…”

Bryan raised his head to look at Robert. His gaze cut off Robert.

“Is this how you continue to be my beta?” Fear like this? Am I eating someone alive? Why so afraid? Just relax. I’m just checking.”

His eyes returned to the contract. As he began to read the contract silently, Robert glanced at him from time to time.

He did not want Bryan to recall his past. It was something very unpleasant.

The more Bryan turned the pages, the more his face turned furious.

“That old bustard is really something else,” Bryan said, tossing the folder on the desk.

Robert reached for the folder and went back to the bookshelf to place it back in its place. After locking the bookshelf, he looked at Bryan.

“Alpha Gabriel Laurant was a moron. His whole pack used to dislike him when he ruled the Moon Valley Pack,” Robert said.

Bryan nodded his head. “Yeah. Just like his grandson, Victor Laurant. Sometimes, I feel like that man went on with his grandfather. But then I realized I was wrong. He is worse.”

Robert agreed with Bryan. He noticed Bryan lighting a cigarette and took a deep puff of smoke to ease his nerves.

“That’s why I told you not to read the contract again. It ruined your mood,” Robert said, walking back to the desk and taking a seat on a chair.

“Bryan, there is no way you can call off your wedding. It’s inevitable. It’s good that Alpha Lucas is on our side. Don’t forget this wedding contract saved you years ago.”

Bryan rested his head against his chair and closed his eyes.

“Victor got his wings. It seems that I have to send him to the place where he belongs once again. I really wish I had killed him that day.”

Robert shook his head and replied, “Alpha Gabriel would have killed you. He loved his grandson more than his own son. You were not the head of Alpha at that time.”

Bryan opened his eyes, and they gleamed. A smirk formed on his lips as he said,

“But now I am the head of Alpha, and he is no longer in this world to look after his grandson. Who will protect his beloved Victor from me?”

Robert stared at Bryan, catching a glimpse of the old Bryan. There was a maniacal look on his face when he talked about Victor.

“Bryan, this wedding is not only important for you but for the whole pack. It is the reason why the Laurant family does not bother you about having a mate. They don’t care. But if you take a step back, you know what can happen. Their pack’s laws are unavoidable. It’s about your life too.”

Bryan closed his eyes again as if thinking about something.

Robert rubbed his forehead and said,

“We are forbidden to talk about it. Otherwise, I would have spoken with Sophia myself. She is the woman my best friend is in love with. I would have never let her leave you. But she chose Victor, and he has already announced their wedding date. Bryan, you have no choice but to let her go.”

–

A week passed as Sophia was counting the day when Victor would return to the Night Shade Pack.

In the last few days, Bryan did not let go of a chance to come across her path.

He started sending gifts, flowers, chocolates, and other things. She wondered if he sent those things to the wrong address. She could not believe he thought he could buy her with those things. So she ignored everything.

It was a day when she got a call from the dean of her university.

She asked him about her transfer certificate so that she could start applying to a university in the Moon Valley Pack. But in return, they denied her proposal.

“We got the order from the upper side. We are unable to issue you a transfer certificate.”

It was what she got to hear. There was no doubt the “upper side” meant their main shareholder, Alpha Bryan.

She was irritated because Bryan was making her life miserable.

Today, there was a conference at the university. So she decided to attend the conference and question the dean directly about the papers.

After having breakfast with her mother, she left for the university directly.

She avoided other people’s stares and walked to the dean’s office.

She knocked on the door, standing outside.

“Come in.”
