Sophia was not feeling well today. She assumed this was because she had met Bryan today.
“Are you alright?” Sara inquired, turning her head to face Sophia in the backseat.
Gazing out the window, Sophia mumbled,
“Nothing. Just thinking about not seeing someone’s face ever again.”
“Someone’s face? What are you saying? Have you seen Alpha recently?”
Sara’s question caused Sophia to turn her head at her. She realized that she had uttered the word in her mind.
Nolan looked in the rearview mirror to catch a glimpse of Sophia. “What’s wrong, Sophia?” he asked.
Sophia cleared her throat and spoke,
“I ran into him today at noon. I thought it would be best to avoid him in the future.”
Sara’s expression became upset. She shifted her focus back to the road. She felt sad for her best friend.
Everyone wanted Sophia to stay happy in her life. In fact, Sophia’s mother once asked Sara if she had anyone in her life. Sara assured her that Sophia would get someone who loved her very much.
“I am totally fine. Relax, guys,” Sophia said, looking at her two friends’ faces.
She was aware that her friends were sad for her. It was because they cared about her.
Sara and Nolan glanced at each other, then sighed. They did not want to see that Sophia, who was shattered after Bryan’s engagement. After all, she took time to get back to a normal life like others.
Sophia’s gaze went back to the window. Her friends did not know that she was helping other packs win over Bryan’s business. But they were aware of her preference to visit an orphanage, and Ken assisted in her training.
The car came to a stop in front of a five-star hotel. Stepping out of the car, Sophia took in her surroundings.
In the middle of the path, there was a little fountain that was both beautiful and flowing. There were many flower heads around it.
If she had come here one year ago, she would have jumped with excitement. But she was no longer the old Sophia, who was sensitive and emotional. The cheerfulness left her life when she lost her heart.
“Sophia, let’s go.”
She heard Sara’s voice and gave her a nod.
They entered the hotel together. Sophia noticed the large lobby area. Nolan went to the reception area, while Sara appreciated Nolan’s sister’s choice.
“Nolan’s sister seems rich. How could she afford to make this hotel reservation?” Sara muttered with a grin.
Sara was hushed by Sophia as she whispered, “You forgot that she is a fashion designer.”
Sara nodded her head in agreement. “Yeah. But still, she has a big heart to reserve a table in this hotel. She is not the kind of woman who likes to spend a lot. I know her very well. I wonder what the reason is behind choosing this place.”
Nolan came back to them and wrapped his arm around Sara’s neck from behind.
“Baby, stop overthinking. Let’s go.”
Sophia chuckled as she walked beside them. After falling in love with one another, they changed into birds that enjoyed chirping throughout the day. Their cute fights really amused her.
“This way,” the waiter who was leading them to the place told them.
As they followed him, they discussed how Nolan’s sister had become a successful fashion designer in the past year.
The waiter led them to a private cabin. The room was quite large, and in the center of it was a large table that had been exquisitely arranged. It was decorated with flowers and candle sticks.
“Wow!”
Sara muttered as she entered the room with Nolan.
Sophia stepped inside, behind them. The stunning arrangements of orchid flowers of varying hues caught her attention as she took a quick glance around.
“Sara! Nolan! Here you are at last!”
A female voice reached Sophia’s ears as she turned her head toward the young woman coming towards them.
The woman in the golden gown looked gorgeous. She hugged Nolan and Sara, asking them why they were late.
The woman turned to Sophia after talking with them. Her eyes lowered on Sophia’s dress, then returned to her face.
“Beautiful in gray!”
“Happy Birthday, Sister Tyra,” Sophia replied, hugging the woman.
Tyra smiled as she hugged Sophia back. She heard a lot about Sophia from Nolan. Sophia was known to be a wonderful woman.
“I am delighted that you came to celebrate my birthday. Please take a seat at the table. We will start the dinner soon,” Tyra said while gesturing her hand toward the table.
Sophia smiled politely and took a step forward to look at the entire table.
However, when she saw who was sitting at the table, her steps came to a stop.
‘Bruce!’
Sophia thought as she looked at him. He was sitting on a chair. He was conversing with another man who appeared to be important to the celebration, as others were about to speak with him. She thought it might be Tyra’s boyfriend.
Sophia immediately turned around and looked at Sara and Nolan. They also noticed Bruce with a frowning look.
“Sister, what is Bruce doing here?” he asked Tyra.
Tyra raised her brows in response. “He is Hector’s friend. He invited him. Why?”
Nolan shook his head, as he had nothing to say since his sister’s boyfriend had called Bruce.
When Tyra walked toward her boyfriend, Sophia was about to walk to the door. “No, I can’t stay here.”
Sara grabbed her hand to stop her from leaving. “No, you can’t run away from everyone. Come on. You faced Alpha today. How can you run away from Bruce? It’s just your ex who stopped bothering you.”
Sophia sighed as she thought it would be awful if she left someone’s birthday party like this.
“Hmm.”
She walked toward the table. The people who were sitting at the table were unfamiliar to her. The gazes of young men and women did not bother her as she took a seat at the table.
Her eyes fell on Bruce again. This time, he was looking at her. His expression showed no sign of surprise, as though he knew she would be here.
He greeted her with a nod. Sophia nodded her head back at him. Then she looked away from him.
This was how they greeted each other if they crossed paths by chance.
Bruce had never come to bother her after his brother’s engagement. Sophia also did not talk to him since his big brother had warned her about it beforehand.
Sara sat next to Sophia, while Nolan sat beside Sara. Bruce was sitting in the chair, which allowed him to see his left and right sides clearly.
Sophia tried to ignore him completely.
Just as she thought she would not have to feel awkward anymore, Tyra smiled at everyone and said,
“Thank you for attending my birthday celebration, everyone. Let’s start the dinner since the chief guest of the dinner has arrived at the hotel.”
Sophia did not know who she was talking about. She turned her head when Tryra said, “Here they are!”
Sophia froze when a couple entered the room.
Almost immediately, everyone got to their feet when they saw the man in a black suit coming toward the table with a stunning woman in a red dress.
“All hail to our head Alpha.”
Under the table, Sophia clenched her fists and pressed them tightly around the tablecloth.
She met him twice today. She did not want to see him again, not at least today.
However, fate had other plans.
She lowered her gaze and shifted her attention to the way the woman was locking her arm with his. She felt something piercing in the corner of her eyes. She blinked quickly to keep any tears from forming inside her eyes.
She had spent the entire year believing that the pain she was experiencing at the time was unbearable. But now she realized it was just a minor ache. She had never seen them together in front of her eyes before, so she didn’t know what the real pain was until tonight.
Bryan’s eyes gazed around as they stopped on Sophia. His brow furrowed slightly.
His expression caught everyone’s attention as they turned to look at Sophia. They were taken aback as to why she did not stand up and bow to him.
Sara glanced at her and elbowed her before muttering,
“Sophia, bow down.”
