“When I heard you joined the Morrison Group, I was angry at you. I was actually worried that Alpha would hurt you. I knew that he didn’t break the engagement because it was already fixed. I was mad at first at him because he is your mate, and that he was thinking about making another woman his Luna. But then I realized that it would be better if you stayed away from him. He is a good Alpha for our pack, but not a good man for you. You are too good for him.”
Abraham put his hand on her head and said,
“I thought you loved Bruce, so this type of thought never crossed my mind.”
Sophia felt embarrassed in front of her brother. He was right. Anyone would think that.
She was with Bruce in the past; then, how could she fall for his elder brother?
“It’s because he is my mate,” she mumbled.
Abraham shook his head. “The life between the royal life and ordinary life is way more different, Sophia. Don’t even think about that path. Their relationships totally depend on deals. They don’t have hearts but only powers.”
Sophia laughed in her head. How she wished she could understand that before giving her heart to that cruel man.
Abraham did not know how Bryan played with her all these months. He only knew his sister fell for her mate. He thought she could get rid of it just like she moved on from Bruce.
“Where is mom?” she asked, changing the topic.
“She is sleeping in her room. She didn’t want to. I had to convince her.”
“Okay, I’m going to my room. You should also take some rest.”
Abraham nodded at her. Sophia walked to the staircase. But she paused as something hit her mind.
She immediately turned around and asked,
“You knew that if he married someone else, he would have to reject me; if he did, I could end up dead. Then how did you stay so calm all these months?”
He looked at her calmly and said,
“On the first day of my training in the camp, Alpha came to talk to me about this matter.”
She raised her brows. “What did he say?”
He smiled at her and replied,
“He said there is a way to break the mate bond. Only he knows about it. He also assured me that you would not be hurt by it.”
“He knows a way to break the bond?” Sophia mumbled while looking at her brother.
Abraham gave a slight nod of his head. The fact that his sister had to go through yet another heartbreak made him feel upset.
However, in his opinion, she should keep her distance from Alpha Bryan. There was not a single sign of emotion that he had ever seen in Bryan’s eyes. He did not even care about his own parents. Then how would he take care of his little sweet sister?
“Sophia, it’s good that there’s a way. I know it will be difficult for you, but let him go. It’s not like you two were in a relationship. It is unfortunate that you ended up being his mate. Otherwise, he was on another path, and you were on another path.”
His words pulled her back to reality. “Yes, you are right. It’s really unfortunate.”
She turned around and went to her room. The moment she closed the door, she slid down against it.
She could not refrain herself anymore. She completely broke down.
“If you had a way to break it, then why did you even ask me to get close to you?”
She sobbed, pulling her legs close to her chest. She did not want her brother to see her in a broken state. That was why she was holding back her tears all the time.
Now she was all alone. Loneliness and the taste of betrayal came back to her.
She did not know how to handle herself. She wanted to scream and ask that man why he did that to her.
“How could you do this to me? What did I do wrong to you?”
She was broken when she met him for the first time. But she could at least repair her heart at that time.
But what would she do now?
He shattered her totally. How could she mend her heart, which was aching for him? What about her wolf, who was howling to be with him?
Only she knew how he broke her heart.
In her mind, she kept going over each and every memory of her and Bryan. She could not just forget them.
His closeness, his taking care of her everything was not his love.
He was only thinking of her as his toy. Whenever he got angry at her for even talking to another man, it was not that he was jealous because he loved her. It was because she was his toy, and he wanted to be the only one who could play with it.
She leaned her back against the door. Her head was burning as well as her eyes.
When she felt there were no tears left, she stood up. She almost fell to the floor, and her legs became heavy.
She made her way to her bed, using a wall as support.
She lay down on the bed and closed her eyes.
She wanted to forget everything.
“Please make me forget everything. Please make this a nightmare. I hope that when I wake up, everything will be back to normal.”

Two days passed.
Sophia was in bed. She has had a high fever for the last two days.
Her mother and brother are looking after her.
When she woke up, her mother was sitting beside her.
“Sophia, how are you feeling right now?”
She blinked a couple of times to clear her vision. Her head was throbbing. She hissed as she tried to sit up.
Her mother helped her sit up. Sophia looked at her mother and said,
“I’m fine, mom.”
Her mother reached for her forehead to check her temperature.
“You still have a fever.”
Sophia closed her eyes as she leaned against the pillow behind her.
“I’ll be fine. Don’t worry.”
Her mother prepared porridge for her and fed her. She smiled at her mother lightly.
“You are the best mother in this world.”
“It’s because my children are the best.”
She chuckled but coughed. She glanced around and asked,
“Where is my brother, mom?”
“Your brother is in the pack house. Alpha called him today and asked him to come back to work. After the royal announcement, every official has gotten very busy.”
Sophia frowned as she asked,
“Royal Announcement?”
Her mother wiped her mouth with a warm towel and replied,
“You were sick; that was why you didn’t know about it. Alpha has announced that he will get engaged this weekend.”
Sophia’s eyes widened. Everything returned to her like a shot of bullet.
She immediately held her forehead with her hands.
“What happened, Sophia?”
Her mother kept calling her, but she could not listen to her.
She was lost in pain. That man did not even take his time before announcing it.
Sophia could not see anything in front of her. Everything was falling apart right in front of her eyes.
The pain he caused in her heart was like poison, crushing her entire body.
