“No, you did not. However, we decided to give you a heads-up in advance.”
“Thank you for letting me know, sisters.” I said it to them with a smile.
My smile froze them. Their expectation was that I would argue with them. However, they were defeated before they could even begin combat.
I sat at a table and had my lunch alone. I noticed Lily talking with some women while having lunch at her table.
After eating, I went back to my cabin. I had just begun to look at my schedule when I received a call on the telephone that was located at the office desk.
I received it. Lily’s voice came from inside the phone.
“I put some files on your desk. Work on it. As for your first day, I have no doubt that it will be a simple task.”
“Okay.”
I looked at the paperwork that was sitting on my desk once I had finished hanging up the phone. There were many. Maybe it would take me almost the whole time in the office.
I glanced at the brown bag and stood up. I thought of giving him his jacket first, then returned here to start my work.
I walked out of my office and made a left turn. I started to make my way towards the next door. It dawned on me that Bryan’s cabin was practically next to mine. But it was so large that I had to walk for a while to reach his door.
I knocked on the door and waited for his permission.
“Come in.”
As soon as I heard him, I opened the door. I looked at the desk when I had finished closing the door behind me. There was no one there, which surprised me. Didn’t I hear his voice from inside? Then, where was he?
Just as I was about to look around for Bryan, I heard his deep voice.
“Who are you searching for here?”
I turned my head and saw that he was smoking while seated on the couch.
The sunlight of this winter could not illuminate the room. The lights over the side where he was sitting were off. So I could not realize that he was sitting there, even though I could feel his scent in the room.
I avoided his gaze and walked to him. I did not want to see his appearance either. I was trying to avoid it totally.
“This is your suit jacket. I came to return it to you.” I uttered the words and extended my hand to hand over the bag to him.
Before I could leave the grip on the bag, he grabbed the bag and pulled it to him.
My heart skipped a beat as I stumbled, and my body lost its balance.
My eyes widened when I directly fell on his lap.
When my body collided with his, time appeared to slow down.
I let out a gasp, and my senses were flooded with a mixture of surprise and shame.
There was complete silence in the room.
How was it possible for me to end up sitting on his lap?
I stared at him in a slow manner. Immediately as his penetrating, black eyes latched into mine, I felt a shiver that ran down my spine. The world seemed to fade into the background, and the only people who were present at that moment were the two of us. It was as if time had stopped moving.
His eyes were unwavering, and they pierced the very depths of my soul, unveiling the mysteries that were concealed deeply within me.
When I was about to move my body from his lap, a surge of unexpected strength enveloped me. He threw the cigarette, which was in his hand, and encircled my waist with his muscular arms, holding me firmly in place.
I stared at him in shock.
I could feel his warm breath gently stroking my face. My heart began to pound in my chest, and I found myself breathless.
“It’s just your first day, and you have started to seduce me?” He asked me with a chilly tone.
I shook my head in response. Because of that, our noses brushed against each other’s. That time, I realized that our faces were very close to each other.
I moved my head back and said,
“I-I didn’t m-mean to do that.”
Hearing me, his arms pulled me closer. A wave of electrifying sensations coursed through my body.
What was happening to me?
There was a flame that had been simmering quietly and diligently for what seemed like an eternity, and it seemed as if his embrace had the power to ignite it.
“Stop pretending like you are naive. I am not Bruce, who would believe your acting.”
The way he spoke to me made me feel completely opposite from what I was experiencing inside me at that time.
Why was I even feeling something for this man that I had never felt for someone else before?
It was difficult for me to comprehend the whirlwind of emotions that had taken hold of my heart.
‘No. I can’t.’ I said to myself.
Before the enigmatic fascination of this man captivated me, I should stop feeling like this.
I placed my hands on his chest. “I am sorry, Alpha.”
Just as I was saying that, I put pressure on his chest in order to stand up. I came so close to achieving my goal, but circumstances may have brought about my demise today.
Because the moment I tried to stand up straight, my high heels twisted, and I plopped on his lap once again.
I heard a groan coming out of his mouth. It caused me to feel ashamed and embarrassed.
“I-I am r-really s-so-“
“Shut up.”
The tone of his anger caused me to flinch. I lowered my head in fear. I did not want to look at his fierce face.
At that time, someone knocked on the door.
My eyes widened. I raised my head and looked at him. This time, he gripped my waist more tightly.
He raised his brow and asked,
“What? What are you afraid of? Didn’t you dare to seduce me? Now, why are you thinking about others? Could it be that Miss Berge is trying to maintain a positive reputation in front of others?”
I stared at his eyes, which were full of mockery for me.
Did he always think that I was this cheap?
I averted my gaze from him as tears began to smear themselves across my eyes.
“May I come in, Alpha?”
Lily’s voice came from outside.
“Yes, come in.” I heard Bryan speak in a louder tone.
As soon as I noticed that the doorknob was twisted, I hurriedly pushed Bryan before standing up.
I let out a sigh of relief when I realized that he had not insulted me in front of Lily and had instead let me leave.
Lily opened the door, and her eyes immediately fell on me. She looked stunned, watching me there in the CEO’s office room.
“You are here?” She asked me while approaching Bryan.
I lowered my head without replying to her. I glanced at my dress to see if it was fixed or not. Luckily, my long dress saved me today.
As Lily stood directly next to me, she asked, “You haven’t responded to me yet.” Her question was directed toward me.
“I-I was-“
“I called her here.”
Bryan interrupted me. I gave him a quick glance as he lit up a new cigarette. While he was puffing on it, he exhaled the smoke that was coming out of his mouth.
“Oh, I see,” Lily said as she glanced at me with doubtful eyes.
“I’m leaving.” I let out a lower tone.
Lily gave me a signal to bow to Bryan just as I was going to leave the cabin.
How could I be so irresponsible? Though he was a businessman, he was the head Alpha of our pack. There was no way I could show him disrespect, regardless of how badly he humiliated me for no apparent reason.
