“Got away no doubt.”

Araiya looked at Talon and whispered, “Shavon?”

Everyone else froze.

“She jumped on Zephyr after we saw them kiss,” Talon’s cold voice answered.

A tear fell from Araiya’s eye. “I am so very sorry about Shavon, Talon.”

“I don’t fucking care. By the way, your father is dragging himself down the burned hill you created in your outburst. You burned away his legs, but he is still alive.” Talon snorted his disgust at her and turned away and shifted. He flew into the sky and bellowed.

“What did I…”

“Nothing at all, you didn’t do anything to him lamb, just give him space. He will come around.”

“Let us go see father, one last time. Let us give him the mercy he never gave you.” Korine wrapped her hand in Araiya’s and tugged her down the dune, scrambling for foot holds in the semi fused sand and glass. When they reached the bottom where Jon lay, he was panting, and moaning. The pain was too much for him to do much other than that and cry.

“Father,” Korine started and Jon looked back. Tears were already running down his face and with one look of Korine’s face, he burst into sobs.

“My darling Korine. You are alive.” He pushed himself over to lay on his back. He sobbed some more, and finally looked up. “Praise the Goddess, you’re alive.”

“Yes, praise the Goddess that Araiya and her mates saved me and not my own fucking father.” Jon flinched at her venom.

“I tried, I wanted to bring you home. You are all I have left.” Jon’s cried grew again and Araiya stepped forward.

“What do you mean all you have left? You had my mother and Lincoln back home. You used us both for a contract, so why act like you care about us?”

“For you I don’t, but I loved Korine. She was mine. Your mother and Lincoln took off after I sent Korine to Fire. They left a letter saying they weren’t staying after I sold both of my daughters, so that I couldn’t do the same to Lincoln.”

“They left?” Araiya asked.

“Can you blame them?” Korine snorted.

“Yes, I loved them, and they abandoned me.”

“You sold us like cattle, you prick.” Araiya snorted.

“YOU WERE CATTLE. You were something to be sold to get ahead, but you went against my wishes and put your name in that fucking ritual. Chosen.” Jon laughed. “Like you were special. So, I lost my cash cow, but I couldn’t go against the contract in place. Donal had already paid for a daughter. And I spent the fucking money, and I was stuck. But I always planned on getting you back Korine, you had to know that.”

“I knew no such thing.”

“I love you.”

“When did you love me? How did you love me? I never felt your love, I felt your manipulations, your maneuverings, your demands, but never your love.”

“Korine…”

“No father. Don’t. You never loved me, not really. I helped you with your scheming for only one reason. Araiya.”

“Araiya?” Confusion shone on his face, and he looked between the two women. “Why?”

Araiya scoffed and turned away from everyone one else. Korine stiffened. “You seriously have the balls to ask me why? You truly want to know father? Why I did it all for Araiya?” His confusion and silence was answer enough.

“Korine…” Araiya started.

“She was a child, a fucking child. She was helpless, and you were supposed to protect her.” Everyone drew in a breath. “She was so small, and you used your power over her to do unspeakable things to her.” Araiya shook. “You were supposed to protect her.” Korine started to cry. “I was a child, and I knew, I knew you wouldn’t stop until she broke. So, I started to throw fits, and be mean to her, so that it would distract you from her. I talked to you about her so that your interest, your twisted attraction to a fucking child turned to hatred. I felt horrible when you beat her, but I knew she was strong enough to survive that. She wouldn’t have survived your sexual advances. She was a fucking child, and you betrayed her worse than anyone ever could.”

“I never…”

“Don’t you fucking lie.” Araiya whirled on the broken man before her. “Not now, not now. It won’t fucking save you. I am covered in your scars, my body is riddled with your abuse, but my soul was ripped apart when you touched me.”

“You are a filthy liar.”

“You’re a fucking liar. You broke me, broke me so fucking completely I don’t know if I will ever get past it. You and your sick, twisted fantasies have ruined me for my mates.”

“We will help you forget any time this scum touched you, little moon.” Terran wrapped an arm around her waist. “Come, I know we have so much to do, come.”
