“I saved you.” Shavon came closer and kneeled next to Korine. “She was just a whore that made our lives difficult.”

“You don’t know what she has done these past cycles.” Araiya looked at her friend. “She changed. I swear it. Please, Shavon. Release me.”

Shavon slowly shook her head. “You know I cannot.”

“Please, I will save us. We can get back to the guys.”

Shavon kept shaking her head. “No, Araiya.”

“Then save her, heal her. Please, Von.”

“No.” Shavon stood. “I will not save her. Even if Zephyr or our master gave me permission. Why would I waste an ounce of power saving the whore?”

“Our master?” Araiya looked up at Shavon. Confusion was clear on her face, even as a tear slid down her cheek.

“His master,” she quickly corrected herself.

“No, Von.” Araiya pulled back. “That wasn’t what you said.” Araiya slowly got to her feet. “Why are you with Zephyr, Shavon? Why are you not with Talon, your mate?”

“I told you, I was taken,” Shavon snapped.

“How were you taken if you were in your house? If you had screamed, fought or run, the guys would have reached you. Four of them could have fought Zephyr off.” Araiya backed away.

Shavon scoffed. Gone was the sweet jealous girl, the mask was ripped away. Before Araiya was a cruel and evil woman. “I swear, all of you are stupid. Talon most of all.”

“He is your mate.”

“He was an access point. Nothing more. Do you know how easy it was to get that man to love me? How fucking easy it was to spell him.”

“Spell him?”

“He was never my mate; we never completed the bond. Shit, we have never even had sex.”

“What?” Araiya was scrambling, trying to follow.

“The darkness came to me when I was a girl. He was in our town looking for you, ironically. He asked me to help him, and I agreed.” Shavon walked closer and started behind Araiya. “He took me in the woods behind your house.” Shavon wrapped her arm around Araiya from behind, pulling her shredded back firmly against her front. She trailed her hand slowly up her center. “He fucks like an animal. You will be very pleased with his performance. I do hope you share.” Shavon whispered in her ear as she caressed Araiya’s breast and licked the shell of her ear.

Araiya shook her off as Shavon chuckled. “Don’t fucking touch me.”

“Come now, Araiya. I was just joking. Talon was never my mate, but Zephyr, he is all mine.”

“How is he your mate?”

“Oh, he’s your mate technically, or he would have been. But I mated him the first day we met. So, my mate bond superseded yours. While you felt the bond, he didn’t.”

“I am so confused; Talon felt your mate bond. He told us that back in Water.”

“I also told you I couldn’t. He bonded to me, I never bonded to him. Right now, he thinks I am dead.” Shavon cackled. “He is mourning my death right this second. He felt the bond break, I cut him adrift. He is probably mad with grief.” She laughed again. She clapped gleefully and then turned to Korine, who was once again awake.

“It was all a lie? Poor Talon,” Araiya murmured as she looked down and saw Korine awake.

“Yes, yes. Poor Talon. Anyways, you enjoy the show. I hear the body bursts once the Sarcan’s have finished with the body.” Shavon chuckled and crouched by Korine’s pale face. “You see, the babies will eat you while you are still alive. Then they cocoon themselves inside your corpse, and then when they grow into adults, they eat your dead, rotting insides until they grow so big your body explodes.” Shavon looked back to Araiya. “I specifically told Donal to leave you here chained to watch the entire show. It’s going to be fun.” She got to her feet and walked off, her laughter fading the farther she got.

“Araiya,” Korine whispered.

Araiya jumped at the sound of her weakened voice. She stretched as close as she could. “I’m here.”

“It’s. It’s okay.”

“It’s not.”

“Yes, yes, it is. I am okay with it. I deserve this.” Korine looked at Araiya and smiled softly.

“No, no you don’t. Don’t talk like this. I am still going to save you, okay?”

“No, just save yourself.” Korine coughed and winced.
