“I don’t think this is a dream…”

“My dream is telling me it’s real, this has to be a sign of insanity.” The girl continued to mumble to herself.

“No.” River stepped closer. “What I am saying is that I have never had a dream with Mac together. So, this is probably more a dream scape or spirit reaching out.”

The girl peeked up at them. “So, this is real?”

“Probably, miss.”

“Well, if it’s real then I guess that answers my question.” The red headed girl deflated and started to cry once again.

“What question?” Mac stepped closer again. River followed, still looking around.

“Whether or not you’re looking for me.” River’s head snapped to the girl on the ground. Between one heart beat and another, River was on the girl.

Mac screamed out. “River, she’s just a girl.” Trying to intercept his charge.

River had the girl into his arms before Mac could get to him. “She’s my girl.” River growled into her neck. River held the shaking, sobbing girl while Mac cluelessly still tried to piece everything together.

“Araiya is our girl River, put the red head down, and respect our mate. We both know we have a ton to make up to Araiya and I won’t let you put it into jeopardy even in this vision scape. Araiya deserves better than that.” Mac walked closer, and River’s dragon let out a warning chuff.

The girl had stopped sobbing when Mac had tried to talk to River. “You want your mate, McKenna?”

“More than I can express. I hurt her, worse than you can imagine, and I need to make it up to her. So, River put down the nice, little red head and let’s go.”

“He’s a bit slow.” River lifted his head from the girl’s neck when she started to laugh.

“You are looking for me?” she whispered as she slowly reached her hands up and cupped River’s face.

“Since the day you went missing, lamb. Do you know where you are?”

“River, what the fuck is going on?” Mac walked over. “Who is this? Do you know her?”

“Mac, I swear you have rocks in your head.”

Araiya lifted her face to look Mac in the eyes. He gasped and tried to take her, causing River to chuff again. “Are you okay? Why is your hair red? Why are you so small? Where are you?” The questions flowed from his mouth in a rush as he dropped to his knees and tugged at River’s arms, wrapped around her.

“I am as okay as I can be. I didn’t know it was red, maybe from the blood? I’m guessing I lost the weight from not eating, and lastly, I don’t know where we are, just that we are in the desert. There is black sand as far as the eye can see, and it’s hot, but we are held in the tents for the most part.”

“Most part?”

“We?” Both men asked at the same time.

“We are moved to another area when we need discipline, which it turns out, is every day. A red sand stone archway. Korine, my sister, is also here with me.”

“What happened to you?” River ran his hands around her. “I can’t access my power here, and I can’t feel the damage.” The frustration was clear in his voice.

“I don’t want to talk about it. River, are you really looking for me?” Araiya turned to face him again.

“Yes, lamb.” River pushed the stiff hair out of her place. “Why would I not be?”

“I didn’t think I mattered to you,” Araiya whispered as a new tear snaked down her face.

Mac crowded the two. “We all care, Firebug. I am so very sorry that we, mostly me, made you feel this way. Terran and Talon are with us too. We are all looking for you. We all care so so much about you.” Mac leaned in and kissed her. “I am so fucking sorry that I made you feel less than. You are the most important person to all of us.”

“Well, Talon has Shavon.” The two men looked at each other. “And I guess Zeph is probably still pissed about his powers.”

“Stay away from Zephyr, lamb. He attacked Mac and almost killed him. He turned away from the Goddess and her path, and in doing so, turned away from us and you. Don’t trust him if you see him, okay?” River looked down at his little mate. “You look older Araiya, who is hurting you? What happened that day?”

“His name is Donal, the man my step father sold me to, he sent his men for me. We had just entered Shavon and Talon’s home when she told me to go get clothes. She said it would be safe in Chosen Village, and I believed her. I had just gotten to my cabin when someone grabbed me from behind and it went black. Donal said I killed a few of his men, but I don’t even remember fighting back. One minute I am at my door, next minute I am waking up in pain and finding out it’s days later, in another province, and chained to a post with a chain that blocks my power. He said he worked a very long time to create it, specifically for me.”

“Who, Donal? He created the chain after he met you?”

“No, the Darkness.” Araiya shivered.

“Hey, it will be alright, lamb. We are coming to find you, so just stay alive and be safe okay, we will be there as soon as we can.”
