Ella’s eyes widened. “I had no feelings for Reuben prior to signing the marriage contract with him. Now that the contract is gone, my feelings have nearly faded away and returned to what they had been in the past. I admit Reuben is handsome and every girl’s desire, but not for me. Moreover, I was into Oran back in the day, even though it didn’t work between us. So tell me, why would I send photos to Alpha Louis to make the two of you break up?”

She made a reasonable point that I couldn’t deny.

“So it really wasn’t you…”

I trailed off, my heart racing as Ella sensed the gravity of the situation.

“No…”

She shook her head slowly, and my mind went blank with the unexpected revelation. Ella had silently acknowledged all her mistakes, and she was not the type of person to lie about her actions, especially not now when there was no reason to do so. However, if it wasn’t Ella that day six years ago? If Ella was not the one who sent photos to Alpha Louis then who was it?

Suddenly, a sharp knock on the door jolted both Ella and me. “Luna,”

came the voice of the Omega standing outside, causing our hearts to race even faster.

Startled, we exchanged glances before turning our attention to the Omega. “Please come with me to the children’s room. I’ve been trying to wake them up for their evening snack, but they’re not responding,”

she requested.

“I understand. I’ll go wake them up. You can go,”

I replied, rising from the floor to leave the room. As I made my way to the children’s room, my mind was consumed by confusion. I couldn’t shake the memory of Ella’s smiling face and cheerful voice from six years ago. Suddenly, my steps halted as realization dawned on me-someone had used Ella’s likeness to deceive me that day. But who could it be? And why had they done it to me? A very frightening feeling raised my heart and I did not know why but Dark’s face came to my mind.

That’s when a knock on the front door of the packhouse scared me to death. Coincidentally, I was standing in the living room a few meters away from the door when it happened. Though the knock on the door did not sound like a knock, rather it felt as if someone was banging on it.

I flinched at the banging and stared at the door while holding my breath. Who could be on the other side? As far as I knew Oran and Bix never knocked, they had keyes.

I slowly drew closer to the door but froze before opening it when I was enveloped by the aura of the person standing on the other side of the door. It was sharp, cold, and for some reason… scary. No… I had to be hallucinating.

Ceri suddenly faded away from my mind and for some reason I did not want to open the door. Despite the fact that the longer I took to open the door the harder the knock became. My body grew colder and I felt a sweat forming on my forehead before I raised my hand to open the door.

As soon as I did, a pair of beautiful green eyes that resembled Reuben’s locked with me. Holding my breath out of fear, I looked at the over six foot tall imposing figure of the handsome yet unknown man looking at me so intensely that I subconsciously took a step back as he stepped forward entering the house, matching me step for step. His actions added fuel to my panicked state, until my back bumped into Reuben’s chest.

“Black?”

Reuben’s voice came from behind me as he looked at the man in front of him.

The man stopped and glanced at Reuben. However, I stared at him with wide eyes. The name sounded familiar. It turned out the man was the Crown Prince Black Emerald!

The man that never ever appeared in public! What was he doing here?

Willow

Standing behind the kitchen counter, I stole a glance at the Crown Prince seated at the dining table as I prepared a fresh pot of coffee.

With his striking pair of green eyes, broad face, defined jawline, and prominent nose, the man on the other side of the kitchen doorway bore a striking resemblance to Reuben. Even their heights seemed to match! I pondered whether it was due to the fact that Alpha Louis and Alpha King Zion were identical twins, resulting in Reuben and Black sharing such similar facial features.

To my surprise, he caught me staring at him as though he were aware of my scrutiny. My heart began to suddenly race, pounding frantically in my chest. I hastily averted my gaze and focused on pouring coffee into the mugs, but my hands shook uncontrollably. His piercing stare… it unnerved me for some inexplicable reason, especially when our eyes met and locked.

The coffee spilled from the cup due to my trembling hands. Suddenly, a hand reached from behind and gently held mine, helping me to properly pour it.

“Are you alright?”

Reuben asked softly, his presence and touch instantly calming me.

“Yes,”

I replied with a smile, glancing up at him. I hadn’t expected him to follow me to the kitchen instead of conversing with his cousin.

He kissed my cheek. “Alright, let’s go,”

he said, taking the coffee tray and placing his hand on my back as we walked out. However, as the Omegas cooking on the other side of the kitchen caught sight of their Alpha holding the tray for me, they secretly admired Reuben. The men from Alpha family were never seen in the kitchen let alone carrying a tray.

I smiled secretly, halting him before he could enter the dining room. Raising my toes, I pulled him lightly down, and gave him a quick kiss. Reuben blinked in surprise which made me shy. Without a word I swiftly stepped out of the kitchen. Reuben chuckled and followed me to the dining table where Crown Prince Black sat.

“How did you suddenly end up here?”

Reuben questioned Black.

Black lifted his gaze to meet Reuben’s. “I’m sure you know the reason,”

he replied, his voice deep and grave and too similar to Reuben for my comfort. His eyes briefly flickered to me as he listed off, “Defying the Alpha King, eliminating one of the King’s advisors without justification, disregarding the royal Elders, treating a royal decree with disdain, and…”

“Coffee?”

Reuben interjected, placing a cup in front of Black before he could continue. Black paused, glancing at the coffee then back at Reuben. I was slightly taken aback by Reuben’s gesture. “I thought you did not like getting involved in other people’s shit,”

Reuben commented to Black before turning to pull out a chair for me.

“I still hate it until that shit splashes on my title then I get called out to deal with it,”

Black murmured as he lazily leaned back in his chair. I suddenly realized where this conversation was going.

Reuben nodded and sat down as he introduced them, “Willow, this is my cousin, Alpha Black Emerald, the Crown Prince.”

“Hello,”

I greeted, turning to face the Crown Prince, who continued to stare at me. I couldn’t tell if it was my imagination or if he had indeed been staring at me since he entered the packhouse.

“And this is my soulmate, Willow,”

Reuben added.

After the introductions, the dining room fell into a tense silence. I felt a bit uncomfortable under his gaze. His stare wasn’t quite welcoming nor was it hostile, instead it was rather mysterious. I just tried not to look at him but into my coffee.

Black gracefully picked his coffee mug up from the dining table, then finally opened his mouth to speak. “Just Willow?”

he asked, his voice deep and weighty, strikingly similar to Reuben’s. His meaningful question immediately captured Reuber’s attention.

As I had suspected, he was here because of me. “Mind tell me your full name?”

The look in his eyes was intense.

“It’s Willow Rathbone,”

I honestly replied. There was no point in hiding any longer, especially when the Alpha King himself had already discovered my surname. He turned his gaze to meet Reuben’s.

“You’re harboring quite the scandal, aren’t you?”

Black chuckled, taking another sip of his coffee.
