I pulled away from them, checking them over. My heart was still beating crazily in my chest.
They shook their heads and thankfully they looked perfectly fine then Ken said, “They are fine Alpha Reuben but the same can not be said for our borders along the river.”
My ears perked up at his words, “What happened to borders?”
“The Shine Moon Pack seems to have been mysteriously killed and is currently on fire like the other two packs!!”
he replied, his pulps blown large at having witnessed that scene first hand.
“On fire?!”
my eyes widened as I instantly grew alert, glancing in the direction that Willow had gone. She had also gone to the river and that part must be on fire .
“Fuck!”
I mumbled under my breath. “No Willow is heading towards the fire ”
memories from the past hit me. “She can’t she can’t.”
“What’s wrong, Alpha Reuben?”
Ken asked in panic.
“Take the children safely back to the packhouse. I am going to get Willow,”
I turned to Ken with the order then immediately raced away in Willow’s direction, mind-linking her about Wyatt and Lori but she did not reply to my mind-link even once.
“Why is she not answering me?”
I muttered to myself, my wolf going crazy over her lack of response.
We have to find her! We have to find her before something happens to her!”
Dex growled in my mind, wanting to shift and take charges.
“WILLOW!”
“WILLOW!!”
I yelled her name as I got closer to the sound of the river until the red and yellow light of the flames hit my eyes. The hair on my exposed skin stood up on end, not because of the fire but at the sight of Willow. Her eyes were wide as saucers as she stood there frozen staring at the sea of fire, shaking and sweating recalling the nightmares that were only triggered by fire.
“Willow,”
I called, quickly as I gently grabbed her hand then turned her away from the fire to pull her into my chest. Her eyes remained wide and her body cold with a noticeable tremble as she sweat like crazy. “Willow ”
I softly called her name again, raised her chin up forcing her to look into my eyes.
“Fire.”
she murmured, looking into my eyes as a pool of tears gathered in hers. “Everyone died fire .fire ”
she started to say the same thing that she had always had in the past whenever she encountered a fire in real life or her nightmares. She would end up in the same condition that she had been then, I was still unable to bear to see her like this.
“It’s nothing,”
I shook my head, touching her cheek but tears began rolling down them as she started shaking all over. “Fire everyone died fire .fire . run away run run ”
she began losing her mind repeating the same thing again and again then I realized that she did not recognize me either.
“Willow Willow ”
I tried to get control of her over and over again but when she started losing it completely, I grabbed her small face in both of my hands.
“Willow!”
I yelled, boring into her gaze with my dark wolf eyes, “Look at me!”
I let out a low growl, making her gasp as she stared at me, “Who am I?”
I pulled her closer to my face as I asked. “Tell me who I am?”
I whispered, completely taking her over with our mate bond.
She looked at me with big water eyes as her breath grew less erratic, “Reu Reuben ”
she whispered.
My heart quickened when she softly called my name for the first time in over six years. I felt as if I was thrown six years into the past, when I was the center of her warmth and love. “Yes, it’s me. Your Reuben ”
I wove my fingers into her hair and crushed my lips to hers. Her teary eyes widened as I gently nibbled her lip then whispered, “It’s your Reuben. So come back to your Reuben Willow.”
Willow
Barefoot, I ran with blood-soaked feet on the rocky path amid the burning forest. But why why couldn’t I see its end? The flames caught at the end of my clothes, and I discarded them while running, desperate to reach the river to save my life.
“Everyone died fire fire ”
The always silent forest suddenly filled with screaming. Terrified, I increased my speed toward the river. However, something caught a hold of my leg, stopping me from running. Looking down, I found a burning person gripping my leg. Screaming in terror, I tried to struggle out of its grasp, but slowly I found myself surrounded by numerous burning figures that grabbed at my body dragging me down with them.
“No! I have to run run ”
I screamed in fear, attempting to break free and escape, but their burning hands covered my body and face. Engulfed in their fiery embrace, my entire being succumbed to the flames. I continued to scream, witnessing the sea of fire extending even onto the river, and then the flames consumed me entirely. As my vision blurred as I slipped into a slow, agonizing death, a pair of dark green eyes appeared before me, calling my name, “Willow, who am I?”
In a daze, I felt his warm touch on my face. It was so familiar so familiar to me. How could he be here? Staring into his intense eyes, they became the only thing that was visible to me among that fire, I subconsciously replied, “Reu Reuben ”
“Yes, it’s me. Your Reuben ”
he whispered, something wove into my hair as I felt a soft and warm pressure against my lips, abruptly pulling me away from the fire. “It’s your Reuben. So come back to me Willow.”
The fire engulfing my body vanished, replaced by Reuben’s face as he kissed me. My eyes widened as I realized the tender featherly touch on my lips was his kiss after six long years. His green eyes locked with mine, his lips moving against mine with the same familiarity as before. My head spun with his urgency and my own repressed longing. I closed my eyes as a fat tear slid down my cheek when I felt Reuben nip my lower lip. In his strong yet warmly possessive embrace, I grew limp slowly succumbing to this familiar sensations my wolf had yearned for over the years until I drifted into unconsciousness.
Reuben gently broke the kiss, pulling me into a warm embrace. “Willow it’s alright. I am here with you,”
he whispered, his hand caressing my hair, a gesture he’d done countless times in the past, soothing me from nightmares I couldn’t recall when they began.
Unconscious in his comforting embrace, more tears escaped my eyes as the distant sounds of many people surrounded me.
“Hurry! Put out the fire in the woods before it reaches our side of the forest!”
I recognized Alpha Benjamin’s Gamma urgently shouting. He had hurried to the riverbank with a group of pack members, using the water to extinguish the fire and protect the Wade Moon Pack’s territory.
