I feel the color draining from my face that I didn’t think of that little detail. I guess she even gave us a hint when she called us her friends in return. Introducing her as a friend is putting her at the same level as Ilona. Hell, it puts her below her in Ilona’s eyes. And don’t think for one SECOND that I don’t know what Ilona is like, and how she is clinging to you for dear life. I would be pissed beyond redemption too if your father introduced me as a friend to women trying to claim him!”. I gulp and am a little lost for words right now. Did we really f*ck up ourselves? But even before Ilona came she was already moody? “But she was already moody before that mom!” Zeke voices my thoughts. “Ah yes. Let me explain this to you in a way you will understand. After all, we have been to that diner together, I know that receptionist and the way she acts around you. You might not see it yourselves, but she is throwing herself at your feet every chance she gets. And if that didn’t do the trick for Lola yet, there was Ilona acting condescendingly towards her and subtly claiming you both in front of her. And to top it off – rather than defending your mate, you introduced her as a FRIEND. I can’t say I would blame Lola if she would never give either of you a chance again” she sighs. Well f*ck.
Zeke POV
Was that really what happened? Neither girls act differently than they normally do towards us, was this really what ticked Lola off? And would this really be it for us? Zane and I are both lost in thoughts, when mother adds “I cannot believe you 2 would be so ignorant. How would you react if Tom were to put his hands on her in front of you?”. Zane and I both growl loudly in unison. “That’s what I thought” she huffs. “We just didn’t think anything of it mom. They always act like that and we have never had a girl we wanted to be exclusive with, so we never had a reason to pay any attention to how others behave towards us. Please tell us how we can make this right” Zane pleads with our mother. I’m just lost in my own thoughts and trying to look at things from her perspective for a change, replaying the scenario over in my head. “We f*cked up again, brother” I breathe out to Zane, having gone back over everything in my head. If I reverse the scenario, and picture other men acting the same way around Lola as the women did with us, I have to admit I would be in a murderous state. Given her abnormally strong Lycan and even her huge f*cking dragon, I’m surprised she was able to keep it together like that. I never even tried putting myself in her shoes, probably because most she wolves are very submissive to their Alphas, and would put up with just about everything. Which is probably the biggest mistake of them all – thinking she would react as most she wolves would. She isn’t anything like any other she wolf I have ever known, she is an absolute firecracker. And honestly, I wouldn’t even want her to be anything else, I hate overly submissive she wolves. The whole concept of it all is outdated. I agree with our mother, I wouldn’t be surprised if she never forgave us. But that doesn’t mean I am not going to try.
Mother sighs deeply and closes her eyes briefly, before looking at us both again. “She is here next Friday to battle Ilona, you said?”. “Yes” Zane answers softly, almost timidly. “But… She has a boyfriend mom. And we felt some severe betrayal pains last night.. Far worse than they have ever been. When she walked out Sunday she even yelled at us to better accept the rejection this Friday” I gulp at the thought of last night. “That may be, but he is not her fated mate. You have that advantage, if you could only pull your heads out of your *sses long enough to get your sh*t together”. “Tell us how to make this right mom, please help us” Zane pleads desperately. She looks from Zane to me thoughtfully, before nodding “I have to be honest. I am not sure anything will help, but if you are adamant on winning her over you need to make a grand gesture. And for the love of the goddess, make it clear to all the women that they have no chance whatsoever anymore. Make it crystal clear you have found your fated mate, and that only she is allowed to touch you and even come near you”. She says the last part whilst rolling her eyes at us, irritation dripping from her features. “What kind of grand gesture?” I ask. “Well, since you don’t have leverage on her for a date anymore, it’s going to be challenging. Whatever we come up with, you will have to do it this Friday. And it will have to be absolutely perfect”.
“What if she brings her boyfriend though?” I ask with a lump in my throat. I really don’t want to consider the possibility, but there is a chance she will. Mother sighs “then you humbly plead with her for a few moments of her time privately. Ultimately, it will be her decision whether she does or not. You can’t force her. And unfortunately, a lot of damage has been done already. And for a girl like Lola, with everything that she has gone through already, that might have been the push she needed to close the book on you both”. A lump is forming in my throat, but I have to push through. I look at Zane and say “we need to get to work brother. We might only have 1 shot to even ever see her again, we need to make it count”. He nods at me and we give our mother a hug, before returning to my room to work out a plan. I pray to the moon goddess that it will work out, I can’t believe we f*cked up yet again. And the worst part is, we didn’t even realize it.
Zane and I stay in my room for several hours to work out our plans for this Friday and divide tasks between each other. We are going to get her all the books she could ever possibly need on the topics she had requested, whether they are in our library at the moment or not. We are going to contact all the packs and other kingdoms for any relevant literature. We will ask her for a few moments of her time before the fight to hand over the books, apologize, and explain how we were so utterly stupid again that we didn’t see what was right in front of us. We are going to beg her for another date to set things right, but we won’t name it a date of course as she would probably just say no. Then right before the fight we will announce publicly that she is our mate, and that no other females are to even come near us. I pray to the goddess that she doesn’t bring that mutt though. I don’t know if I will be able to contain Lex (or myself for that matter) if I see her together with him.
