I am going over the menu looking through the numerous choices they have and all of them are normal foods as I like them – not some stuck up gross sh*t like caviar or something else. Which, quite frankly, I was expecting from them. As I look up they both have the menu shut already and are staring at me unabashedly. As I look around a little I can tell everyone else in the diner is staring at me as well. Some with a hint of curiosity, others with clear dismay. I don’t like being the center of attention at all, but especially the condescending looks I am receiving are getting on my last nerves. One of them of course being the servant girl from earlier, sending death glares my way. I have gotten skilled at hiding my scent in the past 2 years, so they probably think I don’t have a wolf and am an easy target to pick on. But, I don’t bode well with such people. I stare back at them, indicating my displeasure with their attention on me and giving them a warning glare. Some seem to get the hint, the servant and a group of girls clearly don’t and their eyes even darken at my challenge. I smirk to myself. ‘Let’s give them a little show, shall we?’ I ask my girls. They both snicker in return before we turn our eyes ablaze, having flames doing a little victory dance in them. Their darkened eyes quickly turn to fear and they scurry back behind their menus as if nothing happened. Liberty and Justice are still snickering in my head, and I can’t help but snicker with them. In the past I would have let stuff like this slide, but I have learned the hard way that attitudes like this don’t just die down. And – I am not that girl anymore. I am ready to teach those who deserve it a lesson.
I turn my gaze back to the menu as if nothing happened as well, and decide I am going to order the garlic shrimp. I close my menu and as I glance up the twins are still staring at me. “What?” I finally ask a little annoyed. “Nothing..” Zane nervously answers, while scratching the back of his neck. “Have you figured out what to order yet?” “yep” I simply reply. On cue, the waiter comes over and takes our orders. They are both ordering spaghetti and I have to refrain from rolling my eyes. After the waiter brings our drinks and leaves, Zeke and Zane are making small chit-chat about everything and nothing, or at least trying to. I am responding to everything curtly and that’s about it. If I was even humoring the thought of being friendly with them this afternoon, but the way they acted with the servant girl and the disrespect towards me blew that out of the water again. “So, at what time are we finished?” I ask. The first and last question I have asked and will ask all evening. They both frown and share a look between them. “I thought…. I thought we were having fun?”. Just as I am about to answer a snarky comment back, an almost see-through thin girl with long black hair and about 5 layers of makeup walks in, followed by 2 other skinny black haired girls, also covered in layers of makeup. She glances our way and immediately comes barging over and squeals excitedly “Zeke! Zane! My loves!”. Liberty growls loudly in my mind, but I can tell Justice already isn’t a fan either. Something about this girl is off. “Oh hey Ilona!” they both reply. “I’m glad I ran into you guys, I have been wanting to say thanks for last night” she bats her eyelashes at them and without warning, she plumps right between them in the booth. Last night? They were with her last night after begging and blackmailing me to come here?
Lola POV
I frown, but none of them pay me any heed, it’s like I’m not even here anymore and I’m the third wheel. She is giggling and has her arms looped through both of theirs, while her friends are just giving me nasty looks. I decide to not play my cards yet and see how this turns out, but it’s taking everything in me to remain calm. I didn’t want to be here in the first place, but I certainly want to leave now. As they are conversing and she is giggling and batting her eyelashes like a 5 year old, I clear my throat and ask again “you didn’t answer me. What time are we finished?”, keeping my face stoic and void of any emotions. All heads turn my way and it’s like they had completely forgotten I’m here, and my rage multiplies. They insisted on this, not me! I didn’t even want to be here in the first place. And when I actually didn’t have the worst time of my life at the lake – they go ahead and ignore me like I’m not even here. Like they didn’t beg me to come?! If I wasn’t done before, I am now. “Excuse me, who is this mutt?” Ilona sneers. I decide to control my temper and see how the idi*ts handle it, although I know by now not to expect much when it comes to other women. “This is Lola, our friend. Lola, this is Ilona, our beta’s daughter”. Friend?? And I was rude to the servant, but her calling me a mutt isn’t?! I take a deep breath and close my eyes in an attempt to control my temper, but I fail miserably when she sneers “friend? Why is a filthy wolfless rogue worthy of being your friend?”. Zeke and Zane don’t seem like they are going to say anything in my defense yet again, and I have had enough. My anger is about to burst out of control.
“I think you meant to ask the other way around, if they are worthy of being MY friend. And as I just found out, they are not.” I glare at the idi*ts with a clenched jaw. “And consider this your first and final warning to treat me with some respect” I grit through my teeth. I don’t growl, I want her to think I’m wolfless for a little longer. Her eyes darken and she screeches so loud I almost go deaf “you worthless piece of trash!!!!! How DARE you!! Baby are you going to let her talk to me like that?”. Dumb & dumber are looking at me, yet again not coming to my defense, and it makes my anger topple over some more. Before Zeke or Zane can say anything, I reply “didn’t they say you were of Beta blood? Some Beta you are, begging your Alphas to stand up for you. It’s a Beta’s job to protect their Alpha, not the other way around” I say with a smirk on my face, as her face grows so red it looks like she is about to explode. She slams her fists on the table and screams “how about I show you how much of a Beta I am!!! You don’t even have a wolf you pathetic trash!!!!”. Jackpot.
“Who said I don’t have a wolf? Just name your time and place, I will teach you some manners, mutt. However, I want 2 things from you when I win”. “I can smell you don’t have one stupid piece of sh*t!!!! Friday, the royal training grounds, 1pm. I will show the whole Kingdom how pathetic you are, and why the royals should never be friends with you. And whatever b*tch, there is no chance in hell you are beating me anyway”. My girls and I snicker inside my head. It was so easy getting her where I wanted her. And all the while my 2 “FRIENDS” are still not saying anything to defend me. “I want access to the royal library, or someone to retrieve books for me of my choosing. And I want treatment for someone by the pack doctors”. “Whatever b*tch. If I let you live, my only condition is you stay away from my men” she screeches, still red as a tomato. I give her a devilish grin, before replying “wow, I would almost let you win with that condition. But I’ll do that even when you don’t win. Utterly pathetic how you are fighting for a man’s attention though, men who have supposedly met their mate, have some dignity” I couldn’t help but take a jab at my darling mates in the process. And with that, I stand up and walk away. Zeke and Zane don’t even bother to say anything at , and I hate to admit I still feel a pang of hurt. Once again I get dismissed. The story of my life.
Without turning or looking around I yell at them loud enough for the whole diner to hear, as I am absolutely seething “oh yeah, my FRIENDS. Go be with your wh*re and you better f*cking accept my rejection Friday”. And with that, I stroll out. I could have taken a cab, but Liberty needs to blow off some steam before we lose our sh*t completely, and innocent people might get hurt. As I reach the tree line, I remove my clothes and stuff them in my bag. Liberty takes over, puts the bag in her mouth and storms off towards the front entrance. It’s quite a distance, so it will give us some much-needed cooling down time. We are bouncing through the forest, jumping over tree trunks and dodging trees at an insane speed. Sometimes I still get amazed at how fast and agile Liberty is. And like me, she is even more fierce when she is angered. The same with Justice, although we haven’t seen her truly angry yet. ‘Well that b*tch in there did the trick though. I wouldn’t mind being let out now too?’ She chimes in. ‘I’m sorry Jus, we will need to be in neutral territory before I let you out safely. It’s already risky with Liberty as she is an unknown wolf to them. Letting you out is unfortunately always a bigger challenge. And I am a little worried you will freeze the entire diner with everyone in it’.
We reach the gates in record time and as I suspected, the guards are already in wolf form and on high alert. Another 4 wolves come running and one of them perks his ears when seeing me and shifts back, it’s Tom. My first kiss Tom – who ignored me afterwards. I’m sure idi*t #1 and #2 had something to do with that, but still, it’s a d*ck move. “Lola!” Tom breathes out. I only tilt my head at him as a sign to say “what?”, but without wanting to waste the words. I am trying hard to avoid seeing his manhood, as he is completely naked after shifting. “I am so sorry Lola, they Alpha commanded me to ignore you. I’m so sorry I was too weak to fight it” he says with a sad expression on his face and water in his eyes. The other wolves stare at him in confusion, tilting their heads as well. I ponder on it for a moment and I know fighting a royal Alpha command is impossible for a warrior. It does explain why he suddenly ignored me. I don’t forgive easily, but if he truly was commanded, he couldn’t have done anything, so I decide to forgive. “It’s fine Tom, I understand. It’s ancient history by now anyway”.
