Chapter 16 – Fated is Overrated Novel Free by Brenda Minnaard

She is very clever, I can tell, but that is not the most baffling part. What stuns me most is why the hell the 3 pups in front of me with Alpha, beta and Delta blood are suffocating from my aura and baring their necks in submission, while the supposed omega girl in front of me doesn’t seem affected at all. I’m positive she doesn’t even realize it herself. Perhaps she believes the aura would only affect those it is aimed at, but it doesn’t work that way. If there were any omega’s in this room right now they would be in the far end corner of the room on their knees crying with the amount of aura I have pushed out. Lola is not only completely unaffected – she doesn’t even have a wolf yet, which would make it easier to compose yourself around a strong aura. While the 3 in front of me all have their wolves and have not stopped baring their necks at me. How could this be? Even if she were from an Alpha blood line before she came here – which I should have been able to pick up easily – she should not be able to withstand my aura without a wolf and on another Alpha’s territory. It makes no sense to me at all. And to top it off, she got into a fight with the beta heir and came out completely unharmed. She claims to have bruises, but that is a blatant lie and I know it as she isn’t the best liar I have to say. The only thing I don’t understand is why she let them beat her a few weeks ago and decided to stand up this time. Or why she let them just beat her up to begin with, if she is strong enough to withstand my aura.

Either way – I need to find out more about this. And it has to be kept a secret. I decide to divide the tasks to not arouse suspicion among one of my men and I mink link my Beta, Brandon, ‘Brandon, I have a task for you and it needs to remain top secret. That is an Alpha command. I need to find out where Lola is from before she joined us. And any other information on Lola you can find’ ‘of course Alpha. Lola who though?’ and this is a perfect example of how she has remained under our radar ‘Lola Chevron. Get back to me when you have intel.’ ‘on it!’. Right after I mind link my Delta, Dylan, ‘Dylan, I have a top secret task for you, Alpha command to not discuss with anyone beside myself. I need you to do research on wolves unaffected by the Alpha aura, on the Alpha’s territory. Get back to me when you have intel.’ I can hear the skepticism and questions in his voice when he replies ‘of course Alpha’.

Now that is all settled I can get back to the topic at hand, although I feel very distracted from the phenomenon happening right in front of me. “Lola, you are telling me they left you unconscious in the middle of the woods?” and I can’t help but let a murderous growl and a glare at Chris escape me. Once again, I notice she didn’t flinch at my growl as the pups in front of me do, all she does is avert her eyes to show me respect.

“Yes Alpha” I hear her mumble in a soft tone. I can tell from Chris’ eyes that he is fuming at Lola spilling the beans, but he doesn’t dare to move and I can assure you his anger is nothing compared to what I am feeling right now. We are supposed to protect our pack members! Although I now do not believe she is an omega, she is presumed to be one and they especially should be protected as they have no fighting skills. Not to mention the fact she is a woman and they are untrained. Which reminds me that I still need to revise that old rule. Looking at the girl in front of me, I think she would be a force to reckon with if she got the proper training. I wonder where she got her current fighting skills from to begin with, as you don’t just beat a Beta like that. But all my questions will have to wait as I first need to teach these 3 pups a lesson. My wolf pushes forward for this last part of the meeting, making it known to all in the room that he is on the same page as I am.

“Thank you for your candidness Lola. Please know you can, no – you have to –, always come to me with such matters. I deeply apologize for my son’s actions, as well as for the Beta and Delta possible heirs. Please rest assured this will NOT happen again, unless either of the 3 pups in front of me wishes to have a fight with my wolf Cyan, who is more than furious at the disregard of our pack member’s safety. You are excused, so Cyan and I can have a word with the 3 pups. Once again, please accept our sincere apology”. A small smile forms her lips as she stands up and says “there is no need to apologize Alpha, as you were unaware. Thank you and Cyan for talking to me and taking my safety seriously. I really appreciate it.”. When she closes the door behind her I release my full Alpha aura, my irises still pitch black indicating Cyan is with us for this scolding. “Do either of you have anything to add? I would choose your words carefully pups, as we are in no mood to hear any more bullsh*t coming out of your mouths!” Cyan snarls out, completely furious at the boys who are supposed to lead this pack in the near future. I was expecting the dumbest of the 3 to throw out some word vomit as he always does, but apparently the meeting has made quite the impression on them as each of them reply they have nothing to add, Chris smart enough to utter a soft “sorry” at the end.

I reign in some of my aura so I can look them straight in the eye without their bared necks, before I continue. “Now. Let me be crystal clear on this topic. You are in charge of protecting our pack members, not harming them. If I EVER hear anything suggesting otherwise again, you will be demoted in the blink of an eye – all 3 of you. Depending on the severity, Cyan might also want to have a chat with you in private, or we will even decide to turn your asses rogue. I don’t care if you are my son or not – our pack members WILL be protected by the Alpha, Beta and Delta of this pack. And if not you, it will be done by more suitable candidates. We do not care if the harm is done by yourselves directly or any other pack members either, the rules stand. If anything happens to any pack member, this will be reflected on you. Am I understood?” I bellow the last part. All 3 of the pups in front of me nod in understanding while murmuring “yes Alpha”.

“Ashton, Jeremy, you are excused”. All 3 of them have a confused look on their faces as to why I am not dismissing Chris just yet, but as the future Alpha and my son, he has some more coming his way. Ashton and Jeremy get up too slow and hesitant for my liking, they should know I am in no mood to f*ck around right now. So I bellow “TODAY, PUPS”. I have to contain the smile that threatens to pass my lips as they scurry their way out of my office so fast, they almost trip on their own feet. As Chris is studying the floor intently, I continue my scolding session. “Chris, I cannot describe how disappointed and angry I am right now. I know your mother’s departure made an impact on you from which you haven’t fully recovered, but you need to get your sh*t together. This is not how I raised you! And this is not how an Alpha leads his pack. From now on, you will be going to therapy sessions every day after school, to hopefully fix what has been broken when your mother left us. It was hard for me too, Chris. But we still have a pack to run and people to care for. And you cannot let that woman define your future, as she has defined your past.” Judging from his reaction and knowing my son – he is not too thrilled to go to therapy, but I can tell he knows I’m right and that my words had an impact on him. He gives me an apologetic look “sorry dad, for everything. I will go to therapy as you wish”. “Very well son, you are excused”. And with that, I am eager to check with my Beta and Delta if they have found anything yet. I doubt they would have considered the short time span, but there is something really different about Lola and I can’t wait to see what her wolf looks like. I will be sure to ask my Beta when her birthday is.
