Like clockwork, his wolf charged towards me, and when he was close he leaped into the air aiming for my head. I was able to jump out of the way, and he totally missed me. As he was midair, I was able to land a punch to his wolf’s ribs. When his paws hit the ground, he immediately went in for the attack again. However, this time when I went to move, he was able to catch my right calf.
He sunk his teeth deep into my leg, and I screamed out. Dakota was begging for me to shift, and I asked him for just a few more moments before we unleashed him. I knew what I was doing, and had a solid plan. His careless attacks were getting easier to calculate, and I could tell he was getting tired.
I hollered to Simon and told him he should just give up. There was no way he would beat me once I shifted, and I told him that Miles knew that he would die in the challenge and didn’t care about him. The mind game was working because he became seriously distracted. What I hadn’t anticipated with the taunting was for him to continue with the attacks.
He caught me off guard when he jumped at me again. This time he was able to sink his teeth in my shoulder. He started to shake his head viciously, and I could feel the muscles tearing. The pain was excruciating, but I couldn’t concentrate on that. No matter what I did, he wasn’t releasing me in human form. I had no other choice but to give Dakota his wish and shift.
After the shift, Dakota stood facing Slade. Blood was still oozing from our shoulders, but in my wolf’s form the wound was closing quickly. The expression on Slade’s face went from one of triumph to one of fear. Dakota was almost double the size of Slade, and the small wolf knew he was about to meet his end.
Dakota started to stalk his prey, and with every step forward he took, Slade took 2 backwards. I could hear Miles on the sidelines screaming for Simon not to give up. He was encouraging his supposed friend and Beta to go in for the full attack.
I had no problem finishing this worm off, but the fact that his friend was encouraging him to die didn’t sit well with me. I had to deal with that later though. I had to stay focused on the task at hand.
Dakota started to circle Slade, and I heard Slade’s voice enter our mind. “Please just kill me and get this over with. My human is an idiot, and I know there is no way I can beat you. It’s obvious to everyone except my human and his Alpha. I will warn you though, as soon as you kill us, his Alpha is going to attack,” he said.
Dakota agreed to his wish, and immediately ended his life by sinking his teeth into Slade’s neck and ripping out his throat. Just as Slade had warned, before Simon’s body had hit the ground, Miles signaled his men to attack. Here we go!
*Damian POV*
Something in me told me to stay as close to Miles as I could get. It was clear that the Miles I had met in college, was not the Miles Kernshaw standing in front of me. It was as if he had turned into a whole other person all together. Maybe he was just good at making people think he was a good person, and then once he drew them in and got close to them, he showed his true colors.
Either way, he’s out of control.
As the challenge between Maddix and Simon continued, it was clearly obvious that Simon was out of his element. For someone who claimed to have massive training, his actions didn’t show it at all.
I watched as Simon continuously haphazardly attacked Maddix. After countless attempts to connect, he finally was able to sink his teeth into Maddix’s leg. Foolishly, he quickly released him and sprinted away so that he could charge Maddix again.
Over and over, every attempt to do any critical damage to Maddix failed. Maddix was still in human form, and yet, Simon couldn’t get the upper hand.
Miles was screeching at Simon, encouraging him to keep attacking. I think for a moment it distracted Maddix, because Simon’s wolf was able to finally get a grip on my brother-in-law’s shoulder.
Maddix screamed in pain as Slade tore through his shoulder muscles. Then I saw the look in Maddix’s eyes. Dakota was coming forward, and sure enough, Maddix shifted. It was a quick shift, and Dakota took a moment to get to his feet.
I saw Dakota glance at where Miles and myself were standing, and our eyes met. He was signaling me to watch Miles, and I nodded in understanding.
