Filed To Story: Their Bullied and Broken Mate by Teri Petry
After driving for a while, Riley reached out for my hand and gave it a tight squeeze. “Maddix, remember there are kids in the car. You are flying,” she said. I glanced at the speedometer, and it read that I was going 95mph. I was so deep in thought that I hadn’t realized it. I kissed the back of her hand and apologized. We were only 35 miles from our pack when Ginger yelled at me.
“Hey Maddix, I know this is an odd question, but what kind of car does Miles drive?” Ginger asked. I told her that the car he drove to Spirit Mountain was a dark blue Ford Bronco, and then asked her why she asked.
“Well, because I just had a vision of about 6 dark SUV’s racing towards the Blood Moon. They are being followed by 2 large military-style trucks. We will get there before them, but it will be really close. Is there any way to make sure everyone in the pack is in position and ready?” she asked.
I had Riley call Henry, and I asked Luke how far out the witches were. Luke said they had already arrived with Jason’s warriors from Starry Moon. I was relieved at this revelation, and at that moment was pretty thankful that my uncle’s pack and the witches of Ruby Meadows lived a short distance away.
Riley hung up with Henry, and she said that he was already in the process of helping the elderly and children to their designated safe rooms, and the one in the library was ready for everyone when we got there. Everything had been stocked with necessities and things that would provide comfort.
My anxiety started to skyrocket as we approached the area where Phoenix said the men following them had stopped. However, what I saw threw me for a loop. The car was there, but the men who were inside the car were spread out across the road, dead.
*Phoenix POV*
When I got the call that Adelina needed me to come and get her, and what the reason was, I left immediately. My sister needed me and that was all I could think about.
I called Addie as I drove towards the location I had been given, and she said that she was still in the restaurant. She hadn’t seen anyone come in or out since she got there, but she hated being so close to her car. She told me about the tracker on it, and I asked her if there was anywhere else close by that she could walk to.
She walked outside and said there was a laundry mat up the street and I told her to go there. I agreed her being close to the car wasn’t a good idea. She asked if she should take her bag, and I asked if there was anything important in it. She said she needed only the medication due to the complications in her pregnancy, and her jewelry.
I told her to leave the suitcase in the car, but to put her medication and only the jewelry that was hers before she met Miles. Anything from him, leave it. I wasn’t sure what else he had put trackers on, and I didn’t want to risk it.
I hurried as fast as I could, and when I got to the laundry mat, I found her in the bathroom. When I hollered her name, she came barreling out and jumped into my arms. “You’re safe, sis. Let’s get you out of here,” I told her as I helped her to my truck.
When she was nice and secure, I started to drive back to the pack. We passed the restaurant she had stopped at and noticed there was a dark sedan parked next to her car, and 4 men were searching through it.
Just when I thought we were going to pass unseen, one of them pointed to the car. He yelled to the others that their Luna was in my vehicle. Shit. I picked up my speed, but didn’t want to get pulled over. I pulled off on a side road that led directly to our pack, but took a little longer to get there. Once I had driven a short distance down it, I picked up speed.
Addie kept looking behind us to see if they had seen us pull off. Sure enough, she saw them turn behind us. “Go faster Phoenix!” she cried. I pushed harder on the accelerator but the roads were so winding that I couldn’t go as fast as I wanted to. “I’m trying Addie. I can only go so fast around these curves though,” I explained.
I tossed my phone to Addie and told her to message Alette. I told her to let them know we were being followed, and to see what I should do. After what seemed like forever, she finally messaged us back. She said that Maddix said to go straight to the pack, and not stop at the gates. They would alert the guards, and when I got to the pack, Addie had to be taken straight to the secret safe room in the library.
I simply nodded my head as Adelina read the message aloud. I asked her to call Lindy, and have her meet us in the safe room with only the things she needed. She told Addie that Henry, George and Celeste were already helping her get the necessities to the safe room, and that once everyone got there, it would be ready to shut for their safety.
I hadn’t been this scared for a long, long time. I was supposed to be leaving in the morning for Northern Sun to meet my supposed sister, and now they were attacking my family’s pack over some dumb shit. I guess meeting Lark is on the back burner for a bit.
