*MADDIX POV*

Alette finally calmed down, and Buck had come out to bring us in to meet his daughter, Aisling. “Come on fuckers, your niece is waiting to meet you,” he said.

One of the nurses on duty tried to stop us all from going into Micah’s room at the same time, but Damian overruled her rules. We all did agree to wash our hands before entering the room, and to keep it down.

I respect the fact that the hospital staff wants to uphold the rules of the establishment, but to undermine the Alpha to do so could be considered treason to some. Thankfully, they had a very understanding Alpha.

We all took a seat on either the chairs or sofas, and they rolled little Aisling over to us in her bassinet. Everyone took turns admiring her, and when Riley laid eyes on her, she let out a loud gasp. “Riley? Are you alright, sis?” Alette asked. Riley just nodded her head and smiled. She took her finger and ran it over the baby’s cheek, and told Buck he had a very special girl. Buck’s chest swelled with pride, and Riley went and gave Micah a hug.

I saw her whisper something in Micah’s ear, and she looked at her as if she was confused about something. Riley again bent over and whispered something else, and this time Micah just nodded her head with a smile. Whatever they were discussing was about the little one, and I knew it was about something good.

My phone started to ring, and I noticed it was Henry. I excused myself and stepped into the hall. “Hey Henry, how are things?” I answered. The line was quiet. “Henry?” I questioned. “Alpha..Maddix..um, I need you back here as soon as possible. We have a situation, and I don’t want to divulge it over the phone. Not completely anyway,” he said.

The sound of Henry’s voice had me concerned. It wasn’t like him to beat around the bush and be elusive when speaking about pack matters. “Henry? This isn’t like you, just tell me please. I just lost my grandmother, and really don’t have the patience for cryptic talk right now,” I said. I heard him give a low growl, and it caused me to clear my throat.

“Are you growling at me?” I asked him. Silence. I wasn’t going to lie, he was starting to piss me off. “Gamma! I asked you a question,” I bellowed with a little release of my Alpha tone.

“I’m sorry, Maddix. I don’t know how to just outright say this, but we have been threatened with war,” he said. I was pissed at this point and chose to walk outside.

“What the hell do you mean we are being threatened with war? By who?” I asked. He told me to hold on, and I noticed I had a message come through. It was a photo of a letter of declaration.

It stated that I was to either step down as Alpha and hand the pack over to a rightful heir, or face war. What shocked me the most was the name signed at the bottom. Miles Kernshaw. Alpha Miles Kernshaw.

Miles and Simon had left about an hour before Micah went into labor. Addie and Asteria were to go back to the Northern Sun in a few days. The letter had to be written prior to them arriving at Spirit Mountain, and they were both fake as hell to my face.

I told Henry I would call him back, and I apologized for being harsh. He is literally doing the job of 3 people right now since George stepped down.

Instead of going back inside, I decided to go pay the 2 sisters not at the hospital a visit. Miles and Simon’s mates.

I had to gather my composure before going in to see them, and tuck away all the feelings of betrayal I was feeling. I walked into the common room where they were sitting with our family, and asked if I could speak to them both alone.

I knew Damian wouldn’t mind if I used the guest office, so that is where I took them. I asked them both to have a seat and I didn’t hesitate to question them. “Look, I have something to ask you both, and I don’t have time for half-truths or just outright lies. You are both going to tell me what you know about a letter that was received at Blood Moon today. A declaration of sorts. Addie, you first.” I demanded.

“I have no idea what you are talking about, Maddix. I don’t know about any declaration being sent to Blood Moon,” Adelina said. I didn’t sense any deception, but something still felt off. I chose to let it go for a moment, and turned to Asteria. She wouldn’t look me in the eye, and I knew she knew more than Addie.
