Filed To Story: Their Bullied and Broken Mate by Teri Petry
“Buck!” she screamed. Her face went pale, and she started to pass out. I raced out of the room to find the nurse and told her to come quickly. As I told her what happened, she yelled at another nurse to get the doctor into the room stat!
In the short time I was gone, Micah had passed out, and she was bleeding badly. The nurse checked her vitals and strapped a monitor around her stomach. The baby’s heartbeat was elevated as Micah’s was slowing down. “Baby is in distress,” the nurse mumbled.
She had Buck lift my friend, so she could adjust the bed. She pulled the stirrups out, and placed Micah’s feet in them. She explained that she needed to check for dilation, and make sure that when the doctor came in, she was ready. Buck just nodded his head, and the nurse proceeded to place an oxygen tube on his mate.
The delivery doctor finally came in, and his face went white. “Why is she in stirrups?” he asked. The nurse told him that she wanted to make sure that Micah was ready for when he came in. His face started to contort into an angry expression, and he pointed towards the door. “Get out!” he screamed. The nurse quickly did as she was told, and he went to the door to instruct another nurse to contact the maternity surgery dept. and send in another capable nurse.
“I apologize, Beta and Luna. I don’t know what she was thinking. With your mate passed out, and her heart rate declining, she will need to be taken in for an emergency C-section. She should actually already be there,” he apologized.
Buck started to go off in a rage, but I had to remind him to be calm. “She will be fired,” I promised him. “Right, doc?” I asked. The doctor nodded his head and assured Buck that she would no longer have a job in the hospital. That seemed to calm Buck down, and I told him that his little one would be here sooner than we thought.
He smiled and looked down at Micha. “It’s a girl, Alette. We are having a girl. She wanted to surprise you, but I think you should know. I mean, what does it hurt now, right?” he asked. I just sighed and bit my lip. “Right. A girl. That’s awesome,” I replied.
We were startled out of our moment as a team of nurses and other medical members of the team in the maternity ward came rushing in. “Pardon us Luna, Beta, we need to get her into surgery. Only one of you can be there with her, I’m sorry,” one of the male nurses said. Buck looked at me and told me he understood, and I looked at him like he was crazy. “Um, no sir! You are going to be in there with her. Not me! That is your precious little girl and mate. You need to be there daddy,” I expressed. He gave me a big hug and thanked me.
I watched as they left the room, and I couldn’t help feeling a pang of jealousy. As bad as I wanted to be in there with her, I knew it was more his place.
*BUCK POV*
The adrenaline running through me is crazy. One minute, we are whisking my beautiful mate to the ER because our daughter has decided to make her entrance into the world, and the next minute she is rushed into a maternity surgery. She was bleeding so much, it was scary.
The doctor, whose name is Dr. Nolan Campbell, was not a happy camper when he walked in to my unconscious, pale mate in stirrups instead of being prepped for surgery. I had no idea what was right or wrong because this was my first time experiencing anything like this. Now that I know it is serious, I am terrified.
I wish I could change protocol to allow Alette in as well, but even her being the Luna of the pack is overridden in this kind of scenario. I decided to take my place beside Micah’s head, and lay my forehead against hers. I prayed to the goddess to help her wake up. I wanted her to hear our daughter’s first cry, and see her when I did.
It took a lot for me to convince her that it was OK to keep our daughter, and not send her away for adoption. I understand why she wanted to go through with the adoption, but she was also alone at the time. She isn’t anymore and never will be again.
I keep whispering in her ear, telling her how much we need her. Her eyes start to flutter, and she weakly calls my name. My eyes open to stare into her gorgeous eyes, and I kissed her on the head. “Welcome back baby, you almost missed it,” I whispered. “Is she alright?” she asked.
“She should be with us any second. Her heart started to race due to distress, and that’s when you passed out on us. Dr. Campbell got you in surgery as fast as he could,” I told her.
“Buck, you won’t believe the dream I just had…” she started to say before the sweetest cry filled the room. Dr. Campbell started barking orders at his helpers, and Micah started to drift off again.
“No. No! Micah, wake up baby! She’s here, you can’t pass out now,” I begged her. A soft smile spread across her face, and her head slightly nodded. “She’s here,” she whispered. Her heart rate dropped suddenly, and then there was nothing.
