Filed To Story: Their Bullied and Broken Mate by Teri Petry
Lance did as he was told, but glared at Alette and I as we walked away from the waiting room. Once arriving at his door, I told her to go in and I would wait outside. When he was ready for me, I would come in behind her. She shook her head and insisted I come in with her.
I reluctantly agreed, and followed in behind her. He was sitting up slightly, and half of his head was bandaged covering the eye. He smiled as soon as she entered the room, but she did not. She bolted over to his bed and nearly threw herself on top of him. He wrapped one arm around her, and told her that it looked worse than it was.
“It’s only covered to prevent infection while Zion slowly heals me. The fight took a lot out of him,” he told her. She told him that she was so afraid the whole time. She hadn’t gone into the safe room as instructed, she had retreated to their bedroom to watch the fight from the window. She had seen everything.
“Damian, I talked to mom. Me, her and Asteria can heal you and Zion the rest of the way, which will in turn fully heal you. That is if you and the doctor approve. It’s part of my gift,” she told him. He looked at me as if to confirm, and I nodded my head. I knew mom and Asteria were healers, but this was new to me about Lette. However, if mom said it was true, then I believed it.
“Babe, I would like to make sure Zion is alright with it first. He is resting right now. I have no problem with it, but he is a part of it too. He should have a say,” he explained to her. For the first time all day, she seemed content. He had her climb in bed with him, and he pulled her as close as she could get. It wasn’t long before she was fast asleep.
Buck popped his head in and Damian waved him in. He placed his fingers to his lips, signaling Buck to keep quiet. “Come sit. I need to speak with both you and Maddix. I needed her to hear this too, but she needed to rest. It’s about my brother.
Buck and I shot a glance at one another, and Damian caught on to it. He cleared his throat and looked at Buck, “Spill it Buck.” he said. Buck shook his head and told him to go first. If it was the same thing we had spoken about, then we would have problems.
Damian sighed and said, “I think Lance let them on pack grounds. I didn’t feel them cross our borders without an invitation, and everyone else who could have given permission was with me or close by. He was the only one not present when everything started, but I saw him as everyone fell to the ground dead. I need to know if I should play like I know nothing, or just throw him in the cells until I can question him. I think we would learn more if I let him roam but with a tail.”
Buck squeezed his eyes shut, and then threw his long hair into a bun. He avoided answering Damian, but eventually spoke. “Look, D. I literally just spoke with Alpha Maddix about my suspicions about him right before we were summoned in here. I will tell you, I don’t think letting him roam around is a good idea. I have busted him in your office on several occasions going through your papers and other things. I caught him in yours and Luna’s room before the attack. So no, I don’t think allowing him to roam around is a good idea,” he said.
I put in my two cents and told Damian I agreed with Buck. “I don’t think it’s safe at any level. If he let those trying to hurt you or my sister into the pack once, he will do it again. There’s no doubt in my mind about that. The only way that letting him roam around to find information would work, is if he was set up somehow,” I explained.
Damian nodded his head, and closed his eyes. I couldn’t tell if he was thinking or getting tired. I started to tell him we would talk about it later, but he opened his eyes and said, “How can we set him up? He won’t willingly talk.”
*MADDIX POV*
Damian and I agreed to keep a tail on Lance until after the weekend. Then we had a plan to catch him red-handed. Unfortunately, that plan involved one of my sisters. We didn’t want to cause more trauma to Alette, so it made more sense to use one of my other 2 of the triplets. Addie was the best choice since her hair looked more like Alettes. Asteria was slightly shorter than the others, so that wouldn’t work.
Miles was livid at the idea, but Adelina was insistent on going along with it. When approached about it, we had to swear her to secrecy. Damian didn’t want Alette to know what was going on. She would put a stop to it completely. The trauma she was still dealing with was the only reason she wasn’t asked to do it, but we also knew she wouldn’t allow her sisters to face any danger.
I was in the kitchen with my sisters and mate watching them make cookies, cakes and prepping for the BBQ the next day. The kitchen staff could have done everything, but the girls and mom insisted. It was a bonding time for them, and I enjoyed it. Family has always meant a lot to me, and I relished any time we got together.
Damian and Buck joined us, and Damian informed Alette that Micah was coming with River today. The joy in my sister’s eyes was amazing to see. I don’t know why I hadn’t thought of Micah coming to stay with her, but I was happy she was. He told her that she should be there at any time, and Buck said that Caleb was helping an omega get her room ready.
Alette excused herself, and went up to change her clothes. She was still in her pajamas, but wanted to look good to her friend. I put on the apron she had just put down and got to work helping the women in my family cook.
By the time Alette returned, there wasn’t much left to prepare, so she asked us all to sit with her at the table. She said she had something to tell us all. Our curiosity peaked, and we followed her to the table.
