Rebecca was urging them to push faster as the nurse led us towards a canopy of tree limbs. It would give me enough privacy to finish the shift, but it was still close enough to the hospital in case of an emergency. I still had bones that hadn’t healed and needed surgery, and I wasn’t sure how the shift would affect the injuries.
I screamed out again as more pain shot through me. This time it felt as if all my bones were starting to break. I pulled myself up into a ball, and my whole body broke out into a sweat. It became harder to breathe, and I could feel Ruby trying to come forward. She kept begging me to relax, that she would help me through this, but if I didn’t relax it would take so much longer. I felt my mates pick me up and lay me on the ground. Loki was rubbing my back and was so close to me that I could feel his breath on my skin.
“Relax babe, we are here with you and aren’t leaving you. Let your wolf help you through this. Don’t fight it.” He begged. Liam had my head in his lap and was in my other ear whispering words of encouragement also. I was so scared, but wanted it over. I did my best to relax and as I did, things moved a lot quicker. I could feel my bones contort and stretch. My snout and fangs extend. Within moments, a bright light surrounded me. The next thing I knew, I was sitting on my hind legs, fully shifted. The gasps I heard from everyone worried me. Was there something wrong? Liam and Loki were the first to approach me, and I went to step forward towards them.
I stopped immediately and yelped in pain. I couldn’t put weight on two of my paws because of my breaks. My mates came to me and nuzzled their noses in my neck and it was the most comforting feeling I had ever felt. I licked both of them in the face and everyone gave a laugh at it.
Jason stepped forward and said, “Sis. Mel, you are amazing. You are the largest and most unique she-wolf I have ever seen.” I started to whimper and my sister-in-law came to me and asked if I needed to shift back. I nodded my head and her and my mates talked me through shifting back to my human form. Liam was holding a blanket that the nurse had given him so that I could have privacy. As soon as I shifted back, he wrapped me up in that blanket. As Loki helped me back into the wheelchair, I heard a voice I thought I never would have to hear again. Lisa Montana.
“I knew it! I knew that stupid bitch wasn’t dead!”
It was right then, I knew things were about to get a million times worse than they already were.

*Liam POV*
We had safely gotten Melian through her first shift, and her wolf, Ruby, is just as gorgeous as her human. Her fur was beautiful snowy white with ears to match her hair. One was a light lavender and the other a pale pink. I wish we were able to go for a run with her, but her injuries were still an issue, there was no possible way.
Hopefully, now that she has Ruby, she will start to heal better and faster. When she shifted back to her human form, we helped her put on one of our tshirts and started to get her back in the wheelchair. We were all taken by surprise when we heard that annoying bitch, Lisa, scream at us. “I knew it! I knew that stupid bitch wasn’t dead!” she sneered.
Mel’s face went pale white and she started to tremble. I pulled her closer to me, and Loki told me that he would take care of Lisa. I don’t know the history between the two girls, but I was determined to find out. I told Loki to take her to a holding cell, and Jason and I would make sure Mel was back in her room and settled in her room before I met him there. He nodded his head slightly and marched over to Lisa. He grabbed her by the arm and started to drag her towards the cell house.
She was fighting him at first, and he said something to her and she stopped immediately. She kept glaring back at us and Loki jerked her arm, making her look forward. He wasn’t the one to play with, and she was finding out the hard way. Once they were out of sight, we started back towards the hospital. Instead of fighting with her wheelchair, I just carried her back. Jason carried the wheelchair and held onto Rebecca. By the time we got her into her room, Melian was sleeping soundly.
Her shift took a lot out of her, and the rest would do her good. Besides, Jason and I were going to go have a talk with Loki before questioning Lisa. Rebecca kissed Jason bye, and she went back to the packhouse to spend time with their daughter. I was wondering when she was going to tell him they were expecting again. She wasn’t far along, but I could tell her scent was off. After she left, he turned to me and asked, ” Ready? I have a lot to tell about the situation with Lisa.” I nodded my head and turned to look back at my mate, she looked so peaceful right now. I just hope she can find that peace while awake.
“Lets go,” I told him.
It didn’t take us long to get to the cell house, and Jason was quiet the whole walk there. He had the look of guilt and sadness on his face, and I couldn’t help but wonder what his role in this was. I know he has changed towards his sister, but his past with her makes my blood boil. I have to let it go though, because my sister loves him and my mate has forgiven him. She also loves her brother, and if she can forgive him, then I have no right to not like him. I may not like what he did, but I do respect the man he has become.
“Jay, it’s OK man. no one is upset with you. No need to worry.” I told him. He gave a sly smile and kept his eyes lowered still. Going into the cell house, the smell of fresh blood permeated the air. I wrinkled my nose instantly, and yelled out to Loki. “Lok, where you at bro?” The scream I heard after told me exactly where he was.
Jason and I took off down the hallway, and when we got to the holding cells, I came to a dead stop. “Loki what in the actual fuck man?” I yelled. He had Lisa tied to a chair and was taking the back side of a silver knife and rubbing it across her skin. The smile he had on his face was sinister, and if I were to be honest, almost scared me. I walked over to him and took the knife from him. He wasn’t very happy about it, but we needed to talk to her first before we could do any kind of damage.
