Filed To Story: Their Bullied and Broken Mate by Teri Petry
My question went unanswered and Rebecca sent me to get Dr. Flores, because we needed to move her somewhere safer than this room. Unfortunately, Dr. Flores was in surgery, but the head nurse brought a wheelchair and told us to go out the back of the hospital into the woods. She came with us to help monitor Melian’s injuries during the shift.
“It’s OK sis, we are taking you somewhere private so that you can do this. You are so strong, Mel. You are going to do great!” I kept telling her as I pushed the wheelchair. Loki and Liam, on each side of her holding her hands, helped calm the pain a little. Rebecca urged us to go faster as hair started to sprout on my sister’s skin. “Over there, under that canopy of trees. It’s far away enough, but still close enough in case something were to happen,” the head nurse said.
By this time, Mel’s breathing was labored and she was drenched in sweat. Her eyes flashed between her normal emerald green to a dark black. As another shock of pain radiated through her body, she curled up into a ball while still in the wheelchair. “Liam, we need to get her on the ground,” Rebecca said. We finally reached the spot the nurse pointed out and Loki and Liam picked Mel up and laid her on the mossy ground. They stepped back and she screamed at them not to leave her.
Looking at each other, not sure what to do, the nurse finally yelled at them both. “Alpha’s, I mean no disrespect, but if you both do not get down on that ground with your mate and help her through this shift, she may not make it at all. She is still weak from her attack, and from the power of that aura, she has a very powerful and special wolf. She needs you both now.” Without hesitation, Loki was on the ground and Liam followed after.
Liam laid my sister’s head on his lap while stroking her hair and Loki rubbed her back. Both whispered words of encouragement to her. She let out another blood curdling scream and her legs and arms began to elongate, followed by her snout and fangs. As she finished fully shifting into her gorgeous wolf, a bright light shone around her. When the light dimmed, there stood my sister in wolf form. She was remarkable. She was large for a she-wolf, and had fur white as snow. All except for her ears, one was lavender and one was pastel pink. Just like her hair. Everyone always thought she dyed her hair to look like that, but she didn’t. She was born with it that way.
She went to take a step forward and yelped, her leg and arm still weren’t healed and made it hard for her to walk. Her mates walked up to her and snuggled their noses into her fur. She gave a low purr and licked them both in the face. Everyone started to laugh at how adorable they were being with her and then she just slobbers all over their faces.
Rebecca and I walked up to her and she whimpered a bit. Almost as if she was trying to tell me something. Rebecca asked her if she wanted to shift back and her wolf nodded her head. The nurse that had brought us out here handed Liam a blanket to wrap her in. I turned my back so she could shift and I heard Liam and Loki talk her through the shifting process to get back to her human form. The two of us were very lucky to be mated with the Young family. Before she could even talk to us about her wolf, one of the worst sounds in the world filled our ears.
“I knew it! I knew that stupid bitch wasn’t dead!” Turning to see Lisa standing there, we knew that shit was about to hit the fan!
The first shift
*Melian POV*
Loki just got up and left without a word. After our conversation about what I needed from them to heal, and be able to move on with them, he got super quiet. I just assumed he was processing what we discussed. Maybe it’s going to be too much for him. Maybe I’m too damaged for him, and he is rethinking his decision not to reject me. So many what ifs and whys and it’s making my head spin. I hadn’t felt well for the past couple of hours. My head hurt, and my body was achy.
Liam encouraged me to lie down for awhile and get some rest, and I made myself comfortable and tried, but I couldn’t get Loki’s abrupt departure out of my mind. Liam bent over and kissed my forehead and whispered, “Baby, don’t let Loki get you upset or worried. He will be alright. He doesn’t deal well with emotional things, and sometimes can get overwhelmed. He isn’t angry with you at all, but with the monsters that did this to you.” I thanked him for explaining and shut my eyes.
I felt him stroke my hair a few times and then go sit on the couch with my brother. I could hear them talking and Rebecca was sitting in the chair next to me. She was on the phone with her aunt who was taking care of Trinity. I couldn’t wait to get well enough to play with my niece again. She was my favorite person ever. No matter how crappy my day was, Trinity always made things better. I was almost asleep when I heard a voice say, “It’s almost time, Melian. We will meet shortly.” My eyes shot open and I looked around the room, but it was still the same people that were there before.
Could it be? It had to be her. My wolf, Ruby, was finally speaking to me. Confirming it was her, I felt my heart start to race, but she told me to remain calm so not to worry my mates. Calming down, I started to drift off again, this time letting sleep take over.
I was sleeping peacefully until the most agonizing pain shot through my body. I sat straight up in my bed and released a scream that sent shivers down my own spine. I went to fall back onto the pillows, but ended up hitting the floor instead. I pulled my b
ody into the fetal position thinking it would help, but I had never been so wrong. I screamed again as another pain jolted through me. Rebecca was immediately by my side trying to comfort me and find out what was wrong. Tears were falling from my eyes and I pleaded for help. “REBECCA! HELP ME!” I cried. Worry displayed on her face told me she wasn’t sure what to do. The door flew open and Jason and my mates ran in. Liam was kneeling beside me trying to get me to remain calm.
I tried my hardest but the pain was too much. I heard him say that I was burning up and was probably going through my first shift. Rebecca agreed with him and told Jason to go find the doctor. I could feel Loki in the room, but he wasn’t coming too close, and he wasn’t speaking. I needed him closer, but I couldn’t get the words out to tell him. Liam got a cold washcloth and was wiping the sweat off my face, and trying to cool me down. I kept trying to get Ruby to tell me what was happening but she was just as silent as Loki.
Jason rushed back into the room and explained that Dr. Flores was in surgery, but the head nurse was going to help us. Liam picked me up and put me into a wheelchair, and we rushed out of the room. I could feel fur starting to sprout up from my skin, and the pain was getting more intense. While Jason pushed the wheelchair, Loki finally came and held my hand. Liam followed suit and helped the other one. It felt good to have them both with me finally. It eased the pain only slightly, but again, anything was better than nothing.
