“ENOUGH!” Orson yelled at him. “This is not your time.” He glared at the other man who went silent. “Dolan, if you didn’t die, then how did you escape? How did you get to be with this monster slut witch bitch demon spawn from hell?” I just rolled my eyes again at that slew of insults that he was hurling at me.

“I left with the new recruits.” Dolan smiled at this. “Those new people that had joined us, they were her people.”

“H..H..HER PEOPLE!” This little bit of knowledge made Orson’s entire face turn purple. “YOU TRAITOR! YOU BROUGHT MONSTERS INTO MY ARMY!” I could tell that Orson was furious with Dolan. And that was likely why the latter had smiled when he told him what happened. “YOU BROUGHT THOSE THINGS INTO MY GROUP AND LET THEM SEE MY SECRETS!”

There was a long pause while Orson just seemed to be hyperventilating. He was angry. He felt betrayed. And he wanted to kill Dolan.

“YOU!” He screamed the word at Dolan. “YOU AND THOSE MONSTER RECRUITS ARE THE REASON THAT THEY MANAGED TO STOP THE BOMBING AT THIS VERY STADIUM! YOU TOLD THEM, DIDN’T YOU!?” YOU FUCKING TRAITOR!”

Orson must have forgotten that he had fired all the rounds in his gun already. He was pulling the trigger over and over again, dry firing it at the man that had infuriated him so much. The gun just clicked again and again, echoing through the nearly silent space.

“TRAITOR! YOU FUCKING TRAITOR! I WILL KILL YOU! TRAITOR! TRAITOR! TRAITOR!” After a few moments of just dry firing, Orson just started screaming.

It was like he thought that pulling the trigger while screaming those words at Dolan, he could will the man to die right before his eyes.

“I am not sorry for what I did, Harrison. You have gone too far. You’re crazy, and you needed to be stopped. You are a madman, a megalomaniacal madman that thinks that the only way of life that there is, is yours. You need to stop this, Harrison. Give up now.

Come quietly. We will make sure that you aren’t hurt. You and all of your men need to be arrested.”

“FUCK THAT!” The men that had gotten out to yell at Kirk screamed together at Dolan’s words. “WE WILL SEE TO IT THAT THE COLONEL IS VICTORIOUS, AND THEN WE WILL RISE IN THE RANKS OF HIS NEW WORLD ARMY!”

“Do you hear yourselves?” I asked them. “Do you hear how crazy you all sound?”

I was trying to get through to them. I was hoping that they would see that there was no way for this image they had for the future to come to fruition.

“Even if Orson were to kill me and some of my people, you do realize that there is no way for him to take over the world. There will be no new world order. There will be no king of the world. You’re all insane. Certifiably insane!” They didn’t seem to like me pointing this out to them.

When those men heard my words, they turned their guns, bigger and with more ammo than Orson’s, on me. They pulled the triggers and the semiautomatic rifles started to shoot bursts of rounds at me and the others. They were all stopped of course, I wasn’t going to let anyone get hurt today. Still, they had been very wrong for doing that.

Joaquin would have had their heads, had I not forbidden them all from hurting humans. Even then, I was sure that Joaquin wanted to ignore my words and kill them all.

“I CANNOT BELIEVE YOU, DOLAN! YOU WERE MY BEST FRIEND! I WAS DEVASTATED WHEN I THOUGHT THAT YOU WERE DEAD! YOU BETRAYED ME! YOU TURNED AGAINST ME TO WORK WITH THE MONSTERS! AND THAT MAKES YOU JUST AS BAD AS THEY ARE!” Orson was yelling at Dolan while he moved sideways.

He was positioning himself so that he was standing to the right of the closest truck’s trailer. I didn’t know what it was that he had in mind, but he was planning something major.

I watched on in puzzlement as Orson spoke into a radio that had been hanging at his waist. He said something that I wasn’t able to detect at the moment, something that the others seemed to know though.

There was a deafening roar that erupted from that side of the standoff. Several engines, and not the ones of the semi trucks, came roaring to life. Crashing and ripping sounds could be heard from each of the trucks as whatever plan he had enacted was being executed.

I watched on as almost a thousand people came swarming out of the truck trailers with guns and rocket launchers facing our group. However, that wasn’t all that I saw. There were several large military vehicles that were driving off the sides of the semi truck trailers.

There were small tank-like vehicles that seemed only big enough for the ammo and maybe two people. A group of tanklike vehicles with four thick, rubber tires. And another type of vehicle that had eight wheels, also very tank-like. They were all armored, covered in camouflaged metal plating and they all had large guns of different sorts.

Each and every one of those military vehicles were lining up so that they were facing me and the others that were in their path. This was what Orson had been doing. This was what he had spent the last several months, especially the last week, doing. He was building his army and preparing for this attack.

He might not have known that it was going to be here and now, but he had been planning this full scale invasion that was happening right before us. He and all those other men, those militia men and wannabe soldiers, they were his army that he had gathered to attack and kill my people.

This was not good. It was so not good. I could stop the bullets, but I didn’t know how many it was going to take to break down my barriers. I had never put my barriers to this kind of test before. I had had no reason to do that before. And I didn’t know if I was capable of stopping missiles and bombs.

They would explode, and no matter if I stopped them or not, someone would be getting hurt. And there would be damage that had to go somewhere.

How was I going to protect all of these people? What was I going to do? This whole situation was digressing from under control to a clusterfuck, and there was no way for me to stop it. I just had to hope that I could get someone to stop Orson before he gave the word to start firing.

In the meantime though, I needed to start strengthening the barriers that I had around the people that were here. I had to protect the innocent humans on my side, as well as the humans that were on Orson’s side. I needed to make sure that no one was hurt, and most of all that no one died. All those that had taken part in attacks like this needed to be arrested and punished for their crimes.

And Orson needed to be put on trial for more than a dozen counts of murder. And that was just what we had known about recently. I had heard that there were more than that.

I was trying to figure out what to do here, how to fix this situation, when there was the sudden sound of thunder and the crackling of electricity in the air. If the matter at hand wasn’t bad enough, now we had to add the elements to the mix too?

There was going to be a thunderstorm, and that might just frighten the humans on the other side into pulling a trigger or pressing a button when they hadn’t been told to. They would be too on edge, and that would make them too unpredictable.

There was something different about this thunder though, and there was no darkening in the sky that would normally indicate that there was a storm starting. I was too preoccupied to look up though. I couldn’t take my eyes off of the group that was threatening all these people.

The ozone was thickening. The crackle of the electricity flashed through the sky as lightning forked somewhere above me. There was every indication that it was about to start storming. Aside from the darkness of the clouds and the scent of the rain. It was just the static charged ozone, the lightning, and the thunder that rumbled.

Still, I didn’t dare to look up at the sky. I didn’t want to take my eyes off of Orson for fear that he would be angered at the movement. He might take my looking up at the sky as me not taking him seriously enough. He might give the order to start firing if he so much as thought that I was disrespecting him again. And I couldn’t let that happen. Not until I was sure that I could handle the situation.

“What is that?” I heard one of the humans behind me call out. They had apparently been looking at the sky, but it still wasn’t enough to make me look away from Orson.
