Many rich and great families were invited to the engagement ceremony. As the head of the Great Eight of Beach City, the Guajardo family was naturally the center of everyone’s attention.

Everyone knew that the Guajardo and Baldwin families didn’t get along well for many years. They ruled either Beach City or North City respectively and found each other an eyesore.

In recent years, they had little to do with each other and were at peace.

“It’s too late.” Flossie shook her head. “I’ve made a choice. It won’t be hard for me, but I can’t decide how the Guajardo and Baldwin families will react from now on.”

“No, it’s not too late as long as you want to!” Liam grabbed Flossie’s wrist. “Let’s go. I’ll tell them for you!”

“Liam, what are you doing?” Leia looked at Liam, unable to understand his sudden excitement.

“I’m going to meet Austin or Justin. I want them to cancel this engagement ceremony.” Liam held Flossie’s wrist and tried to drag her out of the suite.

He was certain Flossie didn’t want to marry Justin, so it was very likely that she would regret it in the future. It would be hard to settle if she regretted it after the engagement party. Liam felt that he had to try his best to put everything under control while he still could.

Feeling helpless, Leia complained, “Stop making a scene… This is Flossie’s marriage. You can’t make all this fuss!”

“You don’t know. I’m doing this for her. I want the best for her.” Liam knew the consequences of resisting Austin, given the man’s position. He was also ready to be punished by them.

Even though he would be beaten up vigorously, he would not hesitate as long as he could stop the ceremony and help Flossie avoid such risks.

“If you want the best for her, just be with her quietly and give her blessings. All the guests are here, and it’s announced to the world. But you suddenly want to cancel it. Have you ever thought about her situation?” Leia was livid and ignored the fact that she should respect her elder brother. She nearly cursed.

She couldn’t understand why men had such a casual attitude toward marriages. Liam did the same thing when he did not want to marry Amber. When it came to Flossie, he also wanted to meddle in her life.

He thought too highly of himself!

“I’m doing this out of consideration of her situation. I feel that she can’t go through with this. If not, she can never regret this.”

Liam was certain that he had seen through the issue. He had learned about how cruel and fickle people could be during his time at the fort.

The Baldwin family was nice to Flossie and wanted to give her the best of everything, but they might fall out with her at any time if she humiliated them or failed to satisfy them.

It was just like how Benjamin treated Liam. When things were fine, he regarded Liam as his foster son and the son- in-law he valued the most. He wanted Liam to inherit all his family property. But when things turned nasty, he wanted to destroy Liam.

At that time, Liam and the others only managed to escape with the military Justin had brought with him.

If they offended the Baldwin family, it would be unknown if they could still be that lucky and escape from getting killed.

Liam’s solemn look terrified Leia, who whispered, “You’re exaggerating… I think Justin is a pretty good guy. He respected Flossie very much in the past and shared her interests. He also risked his life to save us the other day. You made it sound like he’s some kind of demon and Flossie would get killed if she got close to him.”

Leia chose to wish Flossie happiness because they were friends. She would always support Flossie’s choice. Moreover, she sincerely felt that Justin was a nice guy after getting in touch with him. He would be serious about Flossie.

Hence, Leia felt that Flossie and Justin could be a lovey-dovey couple as long as Flossie readily accepted Justin with an open heart.

Liam frowned and said with worry, “I won’t comment on the kind of man Justin is, but the Baldwin family is dangerous. I’m afraid she can’t regret it once she goes through with it. If she can’t get out of this mess though she doesn’t love him, it’ll be the most pathetic thing.”

Liam felt that his situation at the fort was almost the same as Flossie’s current situation. He had thought that the marriage was just for show. If he was unhappy, he could get a divorce. Even then, things were not that easy when he wanted to get out of that mess.

If Amber had not protected him, Benjamin would have long gotten him killed. He knew better than anyone else how unfair it was for the other party when one tolerated and went through with the marriage.

Amber was naive and was willing to be treated unfairly, but Justin was no fool. He would not be able to take it if it lasted for a long time.

It was easy to imagine what Flossie would face when Justin stopped taking her side.

“Let’s go! I’m not afraid. You don’t have to be afraid, either.” Liam made up his mind to support Flossie, who was standing behind him.

Flossie bit her lips and started to waver; not because she did not want to be with Justin, but simply because she was not confident in herself. She was afraid she would never fall in love with Justin and waste his time.

She didn’t turn Liam down though she knew that his actions were very unreliable. They exited the suite and happened to run into Justin.

Coldness gleamed in his eyes when he noticed Liam holding Flossie’s hand. He sneered and said, “The ceremony is about to start. You two… Where are you guys going?”

“You came right on time.”

Liam let go of Flossie’s hand and yanked his tie. He went straight to the point. “Go to your grandpa and tell him that we’re calling off the ceremony when everything’s not too late.”

“Are you serious?”

Justin took one step forward as if he was showing his ownership. He held Flossie’s shoulders dominantly and pulled her into his embrace.

“I’m the bridegroom-to-be! You want me to call off my engagement ceremony with my beloved woman. Are you out of your mind, or do you think I am?”

“Stop lying to yourself!”

Liam snorted and sneered contemptuously, then said fiercely, “Don’t you know if you’re really a bridegroom-to- be or not? You brainwashed her when she was facing a crisis in her romance! Cunning, aren’t you?”

“Liam!” Flossie didn’t expect Liam to be that rude.

wracked with guilt and ashamed to face Justin, she said, “I’m not forced to marry him. He promised me a haven. Plus, he’s the most innocent person in this affair. I’ve wronged him a great deal. You can’t be rude to him!”

“You felt so because you went against your heart. I don’t want you to go on with this mistake. That’s why I’m trying to stop you!” Liam snapped.

Liam was firm. He felt that he was the only one among them who could see the entire picture clearly. He would not see them act recklessly.

“Justin, let me be frank. You must call off this ceremony–because I’m taking her with me!”

Liam could only be unreasonable since he knew that he could not talk any sense into Justin.

“Let go of her!” Justin turned cold and grabbed Flossie’s other hand. He said darkly to Liam, “You don’t have the right to take her with you!”

“Hmph! I don’t have the right to take her with me? Well, you don’t have the right to marry her. I must take her with me today. Worst comes to worst, I’ll fight your family!”

Though he was too weak to fight the powerful Baldwin family, Liam was never a coward. He would fight the whole world alone for the sake of Flossie’s happy and stable life.

“Calm down…”

In comparison, Justin was calmer. He was probably more confident since it was his territory and he could affirm Flossie would not leave with Liam.

He started mocking Liam.

“I’m not the kind of person who will force others to do things they refuse to do. If Flossie wants to leave, I’ll let her go even if my family disowns me. But I know that she won’t leave. At the very least, she won’t leave with you.”

“What do you mean?” Liam could tell that Justin was mocking him, and it annoyed him. “Why are you so sure that she won’t leave with me?”

“Because you’re not him!”

Justin turned icy After mocking Liam, Justin started mocking himself.

“She’ll leave today if it’s Halston taking her away, even if I don’t want to let her go. But it’s you. For her, you and I are the same. Plus, she likes me more than you. What you’re doing is meaningless. Do you understand me?”

Liam finally understood Justin and was infuriated, but he could not refute Justin. “You spew nasty vitriol! I’m gonna beat you up!”

True, he had no right or ability to take Flossie away because he wasn’t Halston. It seemed like he was thinking too highly of himself since he was making a scene.

“Haze, just stop!” Flossie glared at Justin, annoyed. She couldn’t understand why he could say such nasty things. “Did I say anything wrong?”

Justin shrugged, certain that he was right. He boldly let go of Flossie’s hand without any worry. Then, he joked, “Let me be frank with you. Yes, we can call off this ceremony today under the premise that the Guajardo family made such a request and is here to take her away. It’s meaningless if other people do it.”

Justin knew Flossie had not forgotten about Halston. Hence, he was willing to give Halston another chance. If Halston could come and snatch Flossie away from him under such pressure, it proved that Flossie could rely on him.

If that were the case, Justin could accept it even if Halston defeated him. He could let Halston have Flossie back with ease of mind.

At that point, Justin raised his wrist to check his watch. Then, he smirked and said, “There’s an hour left before the ceremony. If he comes to win Flossie back, I’ll let her go. Is that okay with you?”

“Are you serious?”

“Of course.” Justin raised his brows, sounding casual. “If you don’t trust me, make them come if you can.” “Well, you’re really something.”

Liam was impressed while looking at Justin’s calm expression. He had always thought that Justin was cunning and full of schemes. He was even worried that Justin might plot against Flossie in the future.

However, Justin was quite open and generous. He was considering things from Flossie’s angle. He could be Flossie’s haven, but if he stepped down, he could willingly grant Flossie’s wish to be with the one she loved. It seemed that Justin was selfless, and Liam felt that he was worse than Justin.

No wonder Flossie would choose to spend the rest of her life with Justin. It seemed like he was a reliable man.

Justin pocketed his hands and asked casually, “Is there any other problem now?”

“Not at the moment.” Liam frowned in defeat. Since Justin had made such a big compromise, he would seem like a fool if he was too arrogant and refused to give up.

A long sigh escaped him as he let go of Flossie’s hand, but he was still hopeful. He boasted to Justin, “Wait and see! I’ll make Halston appear.”

“Go ahead.” Justin faked a smile. “My grandpa did invite the Guajardo family, so maybe he’ll come. I’m more curious than you to know how he’ll react.”

Flossie kept quiet while standing at the side. At that moment, her expression changed slightly, but no one knew who she was thinking about.

Justin ignored the change in her expression. He did everything as planned and gently asked for Flossie’s opinion, ” Phoenix, we need to go through the agenda with the host. Can you go with me?”

“Oh, sure.” Flossie snapped back to reality and nodded. She gave her full cooperation.

Justin was right. She might not end up better than being with Justin no matter who took her away that day. If that were the case, she wouldn’t easily leave because she would not casually make a choice.

Since she picked Justin and allowed things to happen, she had to go through with it and be responsible for the result.

Hence, Flossie left with Justin to finalize the details of the engagement ceremony.

Liam stood in the corridor and watched Flossie vanish out of his sight, filled with complicated feelings.

“Stop looking. She’s gone.” Leia kept acting like an onlooker but couldn’t bear to see him that way. She tried to persuade him. “He’s right. Halston should be the one taking her away. Why did you make such a scene? Who are you? You’re nobody to Flossie! Plus, you don’t like her. I don’t understand you.”

In the past, she could try to understand him since he liked Flossie, but she knew that he no longer liked Flossie that way. His dramatic behavior was bizarre.

“I’m worried about her because I know that you can’t trifle with marriages. I’ve experienced that,” Liam said gloomily.

“Forget it! Yeah, yeah, you’ve experienced it, but you should know that you can fall in love with someone else, don’t you?” Leia went straight to the point. “For example, you stopped loving Flossie, and now you love Amber instead. Just admit it!”
