Filed To Story: A Second Chance with My Billionaire Love
Flossie woke up early the next day. After she was done washing up, a servant arrived and asked her to head to Austin’s study.
“Okay, I’ll go now.”
For an unknown reason, Flossie felt worried. Although the Baldwin family had let bygones be bygones and treated her as their own, she still felt inexplicably uneasy.
She had witnessed Austin’s wrath and knew how dangerous her current situation was.
Her words or expressions might infuriate Austin. If so, she would be doomed forever.
During the conversation the day before, she noticed that Austin was bothered by Quinton’s background. He sounded like he wanted to eliminate that trouble.
Flossie understood why Austin wanted to meet her alone. He definitely wanted to criticize Quinton and make her express herself properly.
While she was walking toward Austin’s study, Flossie wondered whether she should contact Justin. After all, she told him yesterday that they should face any issue together.
However, though she was holding her phone, she couldn’t bring herself to call him. In the end, she chose to face it alone because she didn’t want to make things difficult for Justin. Austin was staying in the East Chamber, the core of the mansion. Its furnishing was ancient and solemn. He owned a large study with various rare treasures and books. Any item in the study was worth a lot. It showed how wealthy the Baldwin family was.
Flossie arrived at Austin’s study and could hear people talking eloquently inside.
“No, it’s Tucker Dingwell! The renowned poet from the Shome Dynasty used this fountain pen. He even engraved some words on it. I’m sure it won’t be faked.” Austin sounded certain and stubborn, like a naughty child.
“No, it’s fake! People can fake engravings too.” Another person sounded as stubborn as Austin but was more confident.
“Quinton…?”
Flossie stiffened; she easily noticed that it was Quinton in the study. Without hesitation, she barged inside.
“Quinton, why didn’t you tell me that you were coming? Stop… Stop saying nonsense!” Flossie noticed Quinton holding a white fountain pen that looked invaluable. It was crystal clear and ancient, engraved with the words, “The Great Poet”.
Flossie snatched the fountain pen from Quinton and pointed at the handwriting on it. “This must be Tucker’s fountain pen. Look at this! His title is engraved on it. Plus, given his identity and station, Grandpa Baldwin will only use the best things. I’m sure this can’t be fake.”
“I knew it! Flossie knows me best.” Austin looked kinder when he saw Flossie. He treated her as his family.
“Why did I claim that this is fake?” Quinton said solemnly. “This isn’t Tucker’s handwriting. Look at the handwriting and strokes. They aren’t Tucker’s style at all.
Secondly, the fountain pen Tucker once used is in my Carmine Pawnshop!”
“Nonsense!” Austin valued that fountain pen the most, so Quinton’s words were humiliating for him. “My soulmate got this present for me. How could he lie to me?”
The fountain pen was not a big deal, but if Austin found out that he was cheated, it would be very disheartening.
“If you don’t trust me, I can ask my subordinate to airship the real fountain pen I keep. You’ll know which is real by comparing both.” Quinton sounded confident.
“Fine!” Austin was enthusiastic. He waved and added, “Get your subordinate to deliver the item here. If my fountain pen is fake, I’ll demand an explanation from my soulmate!”
Quinton didn’t hesitate. He quickly fished his phone out and texted Chase. When he got the reply, he snapped his fingers and said, “Just wait. The thing will get here tomorrow morning at the earliest.”
“Well, I like the way you handle things. You’re fast and decisive. You don’t hesitate at all. You look just like Maurice. I admire you for that.” Looking at Quinton, Austin couldn’t hide how he liked the latter. He even patted Quinton’s shoulders.
“I heard that you and my grandpa were famous best friends. I admire you very much as if I’ve seen him,” Quinton said.
It was rare to see Quinton act humbly. He behaved like a young man adored by his grandfather.
Flossie stood aside, too afraid to speak for fear of ruining the rare peace. Still, it was weird. She thought Austin would hate Quinton and do something to Quinton, especially since Austin hated those from Water Dock.
After all, Carmine Pawnshop was the core business of Water Dock. Without its support, the people wouldn’t have been so cruel.
Surprisingly, Austin chatted happily with such a wicked man, unable to hide his admiration for the latter. It was…bizarre.
“Uh…” Flossie raised her hand to interrupt their happy conversation. She asked softly,” Grandpa Baldwin, did you invite my brother here? May I know why?”
“Uh, well…” Austin felt guilty but decided to tell the truth. “He’s your brother, isn’t he? But his background is messy, so I asked him to come so he could cut off ties with you. I don’t want him to affect your marriage with Justin.”
Austin’s honesty made everyone awkward, especially Flossie. She found herself too ashamed to stand there.
“Grandpa Baldwin, you can’t do that! My brother and I are twins. Plus, he’d already suffered too much. It isn’t easy for him to reunite with me, and I’m his only family. I won’t regard him as a stranger, even if I can’t get married for the rest of my life!” Flossie said firmly, her tone icy.
“I know. Just calm down…” Austin said.
Austin hurriedly explained, “I did think that way at first. But after conversing with him, I changed my mind right away. I think he’s an outstanding young man with a unique mind, but he was forced to take the wrong path at first by the difficulties in life. It isn’t a big deal. We can remedy that.”
“Uh, is that true?” Flossie didn’t expect Austin’s attitude to change that fast.
She glanced at Quinton and wondered about his charms. She wondered how he could easily win the old man over with a few words in such a short time.
“Okay, we’ve cleared things up. Since your family is here, we can discuss the arrangement of your engagement ceremony with Justin.”
Austin was delighted.
He promised, “Quinton, you’re Flossie’s family. Just tell us what you want. I’m sure my family is good enough to fulfill your request.”
“Grandpa Baldwin, that’s unnecessary…” Flossie hurriedly tried to turn him down. “Justin and I got together because of love. I don’t want anything or formality. Plus, you gave me an army as a wedding gift. I’m already quite grateful for that. You don’t have to give me more.” She knew that the Baldwin family was wealthy and generous toward her. They would do her enough justice by just letting her marry Justin.
Flossie hated being indebted to others. Justin was willing to be her support and help her avoid her past. He wanted to be her new beginning, and she was already very grateful for that. If she accepted anything else from the Baldwin family, she couldn’t stand it.
“That’s different. Although this is your second marriage, it can’t be worse than your first. I want everyone to know how my family values you as the future Mrs. Baldwin.”
Austin was certain and sincere. He wanted to do her justice and make up for the fact that he didn’t immediately make Justin marry Flossie back then, and how he also failed to defeat the Guajardo family.
“But…”
Flossie wanted to refuse him, but Quinton spoke up first. He wore a solemn and complicated expression.
“Flossie, they’re trying to show their sincerity. I think you should accept it with peace of mind. If you turn it down, it’ll make you seem aloof and distant.”
“Yeah, Quinton is right! That’s what I mean.” Austin’s admiration for Quinton grew, and he immediately added, “Don’t be a stranger. Just tell me what you want. Whatever’s mine belongs to you and Justin from now on. It’s not a big deal if you make some requests.”
Flossie found it hard to turn Austin down, given how sincere he was, but she was clueless about what she had to ask for. Although she wasn’t filthy rich or famous, she didn’t need that much. It was meaningless to ask.
“Grandpa Baldwin, I know you’re nice to me, but I don’t need anything. I don’t need cars, houses, or money. Let’s not go through that.”
“Silly! Everyone wants money.” Austin found Flossie too honest and simple. She didn’t grab that chance to demand money although it was a well-known fact that the Baldwin family was wealthy.
Since Flossie wasn’t greedy, Austin was certain that he wasn’t wrong about her.
“My family owns a lot of real estate and valuable land in North City. You can ask for any one of them and operate it under your name independently. The profits and losses are all on you. What do you think?”
Austin started giving her hints since she was too honest.
Although the economics of North City weren’t as developed as Beach City, endless wealth could be guaranteed if one owned a private and valuable land.
Austin was sincere. His wedding gift represented a great sum of wealth and a form of security for Flossie’s future.
“No, that’s too valuable! I can’t take it.” Flossie wanted to make a simple request, but had yet to come up with a suitable one. Unexpectedly, Austin offered such a valuable gift. She found herself unworthy of that.
