Chapter 888 – A Second Chance with My Billionaire Love

Leia found Xavier’s assessment reasonable. If Benjamin or Macsen wanted to take revenge on them, the two would just shoot them. They didn’t have to waste time and effort and hold a party.

Liam clutched his chest. He thought the time had come, and asked Benjamin, “Mr. Jenkins. Since you trust me, can I make a request?”

“What is it? Since you got stabbed, just spill it,” Benjamin said indifferently, poker-faced. His expression was unreadable.

“It’s not suitable for my family, friends, and me to stay here. Thank you for your guidance and care these days. If it’s possible, let’s take this party as a farewell party. We’ll leave after the party. What do you think?” Liam said, his tone humble but firm.

Today was the best time for them to leave the fort. If not, Benjamin might come up with other schemes another day.

“You want to leave?” Benjamin grew colder. He watched Liam as if he were studying something mysterious.

Liam revealed his thoughts. “I’ve always wanted that. I believe you’ve already known. Plus, I don’t think I’m the right candidate to do anything for you.”

Benjamin had made Liam do a lot of wicked and inhumane things, slowly eliminating his sanity and transforming him into another person.

Liam wanted to stop. He yearned to return to the normal world where he used to belong to. “Okay.” After a pause, Benjamin added brightly, “I did hold this party to bid you guys goodbye. You can leave after this. It’s meaningless to keep you here since you don’t want to.” “Can we really go?” Leia’s excitement almost made her jump. Her eyes widened in disbelief; she didn’t anticipate such happiness in such a short time.

Benjamin didn’t play any tricks as he truly wanted to let them go. He had come to his senses and realized that Liam was sincere toward Amber, thus he wanted to let Liam go.

Besides, someone else had instructed him to do so. It was obvious who that was.

The Jenkins family would have closer cooperation with Guajardo Enterprise in the coming years. Moreover, this cooperation would help them earn money easily. It would be ridiculous of him to give up those profits just to satisfy his wrath.

Before leaving, Flossie and the others sat in the pickup truck except for Liam. He stood at the door and kept looking around. He didn’t get into the car for a long time.

“What’s taking him so long? Why didn’t he get in the car? We can’t leave if Benjamin suddenly regrets it!” Leia said.

She sat beside the window and lowered it, about to wave at Liam before Flossie stopped her in time.

“Stop urging him. It’s still early. Nothing will go wrong since Benjamin agreed to let us go. You have to give Liam some time to say goodbye.” Flossie looked at how Liam kept looking around and shook her head helplessly.

Liam sounded heartless, but in truth, he had already fallen in love with Amber. If not, he wouldn’t be reluctant to part with her.

“What? Who’s he trying to say goodbye to? It’s such a primitive place, full of violent people. I can’t wait to get out of here, but he finds it hard to leave. Is he too stressed after staying here for a long time? Is he suffering from Stockholm syndrome?” Leia complained jokingly.

“No, you’re wrong. He can’t bear to part with someone here…”

Flossie followed Liam’s gaze and looked around, but failed to find Amber. What’s more, Amber didn’t even attend the party. It was unknown whether Benjamin had prohibited her, or if she was trying to avoid them.

“Oh, are you talking about Amber?” Leia was enlightened, but then frowned in confusion.” But that day, Liam said he felt nothing for her. He wanted nothing to do with her. He also said he blocked the stab instinctively and he would’ve done that for anyone else. I’m sure it won’t be hard for him to part with someone he feels nothing for.”

Liam tried his best to avoid Amber that day, and Leia could see that. Because of that, she was certain he wouldn’t be reluctant to part with Amber.

“You’re so naive! Some men are the same as women. They didn’t mean what they said. Sometimes when they claim that they didn’t like someone, they mean otherwise,” Flossie commented sharply.

She might be ignorant about other men, but Liam was contradictory that way. He blocked the stab for Amber because he loved her, but he pretended that it wasn’t a big deal and tried to hide his feelings for her.

“Yes, I agree.” Xavier, who was sitting in the front seat, tilted his head and looked at them. He placed his hand on his heart and said, “I think I’m that kind of man. I might look casual and don’t love anyone, like a playboy, but I’m actually passionate and loyal.”

Leia rolled her eyes and retched.

Liam paced back and forth for some time, but still failed to see the person he was waiting for. When he was about to give up, he saw Hailey Ashworth, Amber’s servant.

Hailey was gasping and running toward Liam.

“Wait, Mr. Osborne!” Hailey ran to Liam and tried her best to catch her breath. Then, she said to him, “Ms. Jenkins… Ms. Jenkins, she…”

“What’s wrong with Amber?” Liam asked nervously. His anxious and worried expression showed that he wasn’t indifferent toward her after all.

“Take this!” Hailey handed a plain box to Liam. “Ms. Jenkins is busy today and can’t send you off. This is the gift she’s been preparing for a long time. She wants you to have it.” “What she’s busy about? Is it troublesome?” Liam was worried about Amber. If she wanted to take over Benjamin’s business, she wouldn’t be able to handle it since the fort was a violent place full of fights.

“It’s something feminine. Please don’t ask about that…” Hailey obeyed Amber’s instruction and didn’t explain much. She waved at Liam and added, “Take care. Don’t worry too much about Ms. Jenkins. She’ll be fine since she’s Mr. Jenkins’ only daughter.”

“What do you mean?” Liam held the gift with worry. “Did Benjamin find fault with her again? Where is she now? I’ll see her. When I was still here, Benjamin’s foster sons kept using her. Now that I’m gone, they’ll do it even more her since she’s kind and nice to talk to.”

Suddenly, he understood why Benjamin insisted on getting a good husband for Amber. Under such complicated circumstances, she needed strong support to lead a better life. If not, she would be reduced to others’ pawns.

But in some aspects, Liam had done the same to Amber. However, he knew he would treat her well. That might not be the case if it were someone else like Mateo, who was punished. “Don’t worry. Mr. Jenkins didn’t punish her. He values her. They’re having a meeting now. He introduced her as his heiress to his cooperative partners. I’m sure her prospects will be great. Just go home with peace of mind.” Hailey urged Liam to leave the fort quickly. “If it gets late, there’ll be a lot of robbers on the road. Things will get troublesome if you run into them.”

“Fine.” Liam sighed. He held the gift box and turned to get into the car.

If Hailey was telling the truth, he would be sincerely happy for Amber. Women should have a bigger world to explore instead of living only for their families and men.

If Amber was going to take over Benjamin’s place, it would be a difficult journey for her. Even a man like Liam found it hard, let alone a pure and simple woman like Amber.

Everyone was bound by their fates and missions. Liam held back his reluctance and shut the door of the car. He closed his eyes as they departed.

The palm trees on both sides of the car flashed past them. The days spent in the fort felt like a ridiculous illusion, unreal, like a preposterous dream.

Now, the dream was finally over. Gradually, everything would cease to exist except for Liam’s slightly moved heart and feelings.

He flexed his fingers and looked at the box in his hand. Gently, he opened the lid…

The box contained a red wedding gown with exquisite embroidered dragon and phoenix patterns. The embroidery was meticulous, making the dragon and phoenix look lifelike. With such intricate details, it would take three to five months to complete.

“So, she was busy with this.”

Liam caressed the patterns, bitterness and disappointment hitting him hard.

Amber was always busy these days and couldn’t be found. She also didn’t talk much to him. She claimed that she wanted to sew wedding clothes for herself and Mateo. Unexpectedly, she ended up giving the wedding gown to Liam instead.

There was a card at the bottom of the wedding dress. Liam opened it and read Amber’s note. [Liam, I only want to be your wife my whole life… but from now on, I won’t marry anyone. I want to live for myself. I hope we can meet again when we’re both strong and capable!]

Her handwriting wasn’t neat, and her grammar was wrong. Yet it showed her shyness, pureness, and firmness.

Liam clenched the wedding gown tightly as if he were holding Amber’s hand while she was sewing the wedding gown. Complicated feelings gripped him…

He wondered if they would meet again. He had no idea.

The cars sped along the road and finally arrived at the airport. Everyone got out and gathered together.

Liam was the last to get out of the car. He kept carrying the box and glanced at the spot next to him.

“What’s wrong with you? Why do you look so bad? Did your wound get worse?” Leia asked anxiously.

“No.” Liam shook his head but still looked dispirited.

“Why are you carrying something so heavy when you’re hurt? Let me help you.” Leia was worried to see Liam carrying a heavy item, so she wanted to help him with it.

“No, I’ll do it myself,” Liam refused.

“Let me have it. You can’t exert yourself. Give it to me now.”

“That’s unnecessary. Let go! Don’t touch this… Let go…”
