Filed To Story: A Second Chance with My Billionaire Love
“If Mr. Jenkins agrees to let us go, we’ll thank him sincerely. We troubled him a lot these days. I hope to gain his forgiveness and work together with him if there’s a chance,” Flossie expressed her gratitude for Benjamin and Amber.
Her assumption had been accurate. The conflict finally came to an end, with Liam’s injury being the price. Though she was livid, it was better to get out of there earlier.
“Sure!” Amber took a deep breath, though she seemed reluctant to part with Liam. “I hope Dad can work with you. I also hope our story won’t end here.”
Then, she exited the room.
Leia hurriedly approached Liam and inspected his condition. “Liam, are you okay? Did they poison you or place an eavesdropping device on you?”
“No, I’m fine.” Liam frowned and moved Leia’s hands away. “I’m weak now. If they’re still on guard against me, they’re heartless.”
After escaping a near-death experience, his thoughts were different and he stopped taking things seriously. On the contrary, he didn’t hate or doubt Benjamin that much. He just wanted to leave this fort as quickly as possible.
Liam looked feeble, and seeing him this way filled Flossie with deep guilt. She flexed her fingers and hesitated for a long time before saying, “I’m sorry, Liam.”
Liam looked at Flossie with confusion. “Why are you apologizing to me for no reason?”
“It’s because…” Flossie bit her lips and said agitatedly, “I could tell that Benjamin tried to test you and Mateo by doing that. I could have stopped him. But I… I thought luck was on our side.”
If she could stop them earlier, Liam wouldn’t have been stabbed.
“Oh, it’s nothing!” Liam disagreed, and added brightly, “Like I said, I blocked the attack instinctively. Plus, Benjamin insisted on that. He wanted me to get stabbed. You couldn’t have stopped him!”
“But…” Flossie insisted.
“This is worth it. I was able to gain Benjamin’s trust and calm his anger, which in turn helped us leave. I would’ve done the same thing again without hesitation.”
Liam looked relaxed and sounded casual, as if he didn’t have a close brush with death. Rather, he treated the whole thing like a game he nearly got disqualified from and in turn rewarded for. The result was worth it. He took everything as an exciting adventure rather than a life-threatening incident.
“Oh, you’re always so casual. What do you mean, worth it? If that knife reached your heart or the doctor wasn’t skillful enough, you would’ve been killed. And I… I might have to watch you die just because I left things to chance!” Flossie yelled.
She couldn’t dwell on what had happened. The memory chilled her blood, and she hated herself for being so scheming.
Flossie could feel herself changing. Before, she was direct, bold, straightforward, and did everything she could for the sake of justice. Now, she had turned into an overly cautions coward.
She hated this version of herself, but she could only live with it since she was afraid of changes…
“Okay, stop overthinking. Even if the process was full of twists and turns, the result is good enough,” Liam said positively. He was optimistic, and tried to console Flossie and Leia. “Get ready and pack up your things. When I recover, we can ride an exclusive plane home.”
After staying at a fort full of violent people for such a long time, he got affected by them. For a moment, he became a cruel and heartless person who could do anything to achieve his goals. He also believed he would never leave that place. He acted like Mateo, trying to win people over, full of schemes-all just to gain more power.
However, Flossie and Leia’s appearance made him suddenly regain his wits and revert to his usual self after being negatively affected.
He still yearned for an ordinary world, and desired to get out of there. He no longer wanted to have anything to do with that place-except for…
Suddenly, Amber’s face appeared in his mind, filling him with disappointment.
Flossie caught Liam’s disappointment and hit the nail on the head. “Are you going to leave just like that? What about Amber?”
“She’s going to lead her life. It’s none of my business,” Liam said, his tone casual and indifferent.
He knew he and Amber belonged to two different worlds. They should never have anything to do with each other. Previously, he was forced to agree to marry her. Even so, he always reminded himself not to take it seriously. If not, he could never leave the fort.
Flossie could sense Liam lying to himself and tried to get to the bottom of his heart. “None of your business? You blocked the knife for her! You weren’t such a great person, either.” “Well, you know now,” Liam replied, ignoring her. He didn’t want to face that question.
He had no idea what he felt about Amber, but he knew he would be doomed if he stayed and let his feelings for her grow.
Amber was just an accident in his life. He had lost control of himself since he risked his life to save her. He needed to stop and take care not to lose control of himself again.
Three days later, Liam got better and could get out of bed.
Benjamin held a party to express his apology to Flossie and the others.
Before attending the party, Leia held Flossie’s hand, frightened. “Is he plotting something?”
After all, they had witnessed Benjamin’s craziness. He could even kill his only daughter! It seemed unlikely that this was just an ordinary party.
“Don’t be scared. We can fight them if worse comes to worst,” Justin said casually as he walked behind them. He found a spot and sat in front of them.
The army Austin had promised Flossie was already on guard outside of the party, hence Justin’s confidence. Besides, the Baldwin family was informed beforehand to come assist them if anything went wrong.
Since he had absolute power, he was fearless.
“You’re right. We can still fight them. I’d like to see what tricks that crazy Benjamin is trying to pull.” Leia said.
She stopped taking things too seriously, and casually walked into the place and took her seat. Xavier, sitting beside her, was talking happily to Benjamin.
At the center, beautiful women in traditional clothes were dancing. There was a table full of exotic delicacies. The party seemed like a harmonious and happy reunion.
When Xavier saw Leia take her seat, he eagerly handed her a glass of purple wine. “Come and try this drink! This is the newly brewed mulberry wine. Try it, it’s sweet.”
Leia couldn’t be bothered to talk to him, but failed to hold herself back when she smelled the wine. She accepted it and thanked him.
After tasting it, she found it tasty and eagerly shared it with Flossie. “Try this wine, Flossie. It’s good!”
Flossie accepted the wine with a frown. She studied its color carefully and got suspicious. “Is this wine okay?” Normally, mulberry wine was dark red, but this one was bright red. It seemed abnormal.
“Are you saying that I added something else to the wine, Ms. Ellsworth?” Benjamin asked. He was in the main seat and was observing Flossie, so he naturally heard her conversation with Leia. The kindness on his face dissipated.
Flossie glanced at Macsen and Luneth, who were sitting on Benjamin’s right. “Not necessarily you, Mr. Jenkins. Someone else might be scheming something.”
Macsen had nearly killed all of them, but Benjamin didn’t punish him whatsoever. Instead, he allowed Macsen to take an important seat, as if the latter were the host. It was humiliating for Flossie and the others.
Macsen glared at Flossie, his eyes radiating cold fury. “Are you saying I added poison to the wine?”
“I didn’t say that,” Flossie said mildly; how easily it was to infuriate Macsen! “But you can’t wait to admit to it.”
“How dare you!” Macsen snarled.
Macsen got up angrily and pointed at Flossie. “You nearly got me killed by biting me! I didn’t even make you pay for that, but here you are, trying to accuse me. Do you think I won’t do anything to you?”
“Of course you will. You nearly got us killed,” Flossie sneered, glancing at the glass of mulberry wine. “So, it’s logical that you poisoned the wine.”
“No, I didn’t!” Macsen raised the glass of wine and leaned backward to gulp it down. Then, he glared at Flossie. “I’m not such a petty man!”
Instantly, the air grew tense.
Liam, sitting on Benjamin’s right, tried to keep the peace. “Okay, stop bickering. Since Mr. Jenkins held this party today, he wanted us to bury the hatchet. We don’t have to take to heart what happened a few days ago. The most important thing is to keep peace and come up with a win-win situation.”
Benjamin nodded and clapped. “Liam knows me the best. He didn’t take the stab for nothing. At least I can see that he’s sincere toward me, Gem, and the fort.”
“Oh, gosh! How could he tell if Liam’s sincere?” Leia complained quietly.
“Whatever. As long as he thinks so.” Xavier wasn’t worried about the wine. He hurriedly drank it and shook his head. “Flossie’s just worried for nothing. If they wanted to harm us, they would have already done so. He doesn’t have to beat around the bush and poison us.” “Yeah, you’re right!”
