Chapter 883 – A Second Chance with My Billionaire Love

He could no longer take it. He failed to understand Benjamin. Benjamin had a problem with Liam and his family and friends, but kept torturing his daughter. It was puzzling.

“Come here, Mateo!” Benjamin waved at Mateo, watching everyone lose it with detached calmness. Mateo staggered to Benjamin and Amber, teary and desperate. “Master, what do you need me for?” “Kill her!” Benjamin repeated his words. “Kill her, then you’ll take over my place. You need to pass this test.”

“No, I can’t…” Mateo gripped the knife and retreated shakily. “You can punish me, but please don’t torture me like this. I can’t do this.”

“No, I raised you. You can do it. Your greed toward power is greater than your romantic feelings…” Benjamin acted like a god who could easily decide others’ fate. “Kill her, then you’ve passed the test. I won’t have any worry. Face your true self. Don’t be bound by the so-called justice and moral standards. You can’t survive here if those things are binding you.”

“Please don’t force my hand…” Mateo shook his head and cried. He kept retreating as if he could not bring himself to do that.

When everyone thought that Mateo couldn’t do that, he suddenly raised the knife. His eyes shone fiercely as he tried to stab Amber’s heart.

“I’m sorry, Gem. I have no choice!”

“No!”

Unexpectedly, the seemingly desperate Mateo who insisted that he couldn’t do it actually tried to stab Amber.

At that critical moment, Liam roared and subconsciously stood in front of Amber. The sharp knife pierced his heart. For a moment, blood gushed out.

“Liam!” Amber’s eyes widened as her mind went blank. She watched him fall in front of her though he was initially hugging her.

“Liam!” Both Leia and Xavier’s car arrived later than the others. When Leia got out of the car, she witnessed that scene and almost blacked out.

“Be careful!” Xavier held her in a hurry, anxious for her. He couldn’t believe what he had seen.

“Liam!” Flossie rushed over immediately. She inspected Liam’s chest and tried to stop the bleeding for him.

“I’m going to kill you!” Leia went berserk. She staggered toward Mateo and pounced on him, trying to strangle him.

“I… I didn’t mean it…” When Mateo saw the knife in Liam’s chest, he instantly regained his wits. He kept shaking his head and retreating. “I didn’t mean it! I didn’t want to hurt anyone. I just wanted to kill myself. I… I…”

As an outsider, Justin couldn’t take it. “Shut up! You’re such a hypocrite!”

“Doctor! We need a doctor! We must get the most professional surgeon now!” Flossie realized that the knife was lodged deeply into Liam’s chest. If the wound wasn’t handled well, Liam would die on the spot.

However, no medical staff came to help them regardless of how much they screamed.

Amber, whose eyes were swollen from her crying, reluctantly let go of Liam. She endured the pain of her limbs and staggered to Benjamin.

“Dad, please get a doctor. If not, Liam will die. If you hate me, I can kill myself. Or, I can do anything you want. Please save Liam, I’m begging you!”

Benjamin stood nearby and watched the scene. Liam was stabbed, and Amber was crying profusely. Then, he sighed. “Well, he impressed me. I can’t deny he’s sincere toward you, but he doesn’t have to die.”

He glanced at his subordinate; soon, the most experienced doctor in the fort rushed to the scene and tried to save Liam.

“Luckily, the knife is near the heart and not inside it. If I remove the knife properly, he’ll be fine,” the doctor said after tending to the wound briefly, much to everyone’s relief.

“Is he going to be okay?” Finally, Leia looked better. “Great! I know he won’t die so easily since he’s tough.”

“Get him to a room. I’ll remove the knife and stop the bleeding,” the doctor instructed. Everyone helped to carry Liam to a room and waited for the doctor to treat him.

Leia was leaning into Xavier’s arms and trembling nervously.

Flossie paced back and forth at the door, looking guilty. “It’s all my fault!” She flexed her fingers and bit the back of her fist, filled with reproach.

“It has nothing to do with you. Stop blaming yourself.” Justin patted her shoulder, hoping to help her relax a bit. “You aren’t a superwoman. You can’t do everything well. Plus, it’s hard for us to do anything under this circumstance. It’s hard to control.”

“No, I knew that Benjamin didn’t want to kill Amber. He just wanted to test Mateo and Liam…”

Flossie was teary as she reflected on what had happened. She felt that she could have stopped that if she was more sensitive and active.

“I guessed that Mateo would attack Amber and that Liam might resist, but I didn’t expect him to use his body to block the knife. Is this some kind of melodramatic movie? I taught him so many self -defense techniques. Why was he so dumb? If I stopped it earlier, this would never have happened!

Flossie hated her hesitance. Contrary to her past self, she always considered things thoroughly before she took action. She used to act without considering the consequences or regrets.

It might be because she was getting older and had experienced too many twists and turns. She felt she could avoid getting trapped if she thought through things.

Yet, it seemed like being decisive was better.

“My shame will eat me up if anything happens to Liam. I’ve wronged him and all of you!” Flossie covered her face in deep pain, crying quietly.

Leia glanced at Flossie. In the past, she would always comfort Flossie and ask the latter not to take it to heart. This time, however, she said nothing.

It seemed like she bore some resentment. She couldn’t forgive Flossie if the latter was telling the truth. Flossie had anticipated that Liam would block the knife, but did not try to stop it. Instead, she watched the scene indifferently and merely let it happen.

Xavier hugged Leia, noticing her thoughts. He leaned into her ear and whispered to her, “Are you blaming Flossie too?”

Leia was silent, her face sorrowful.

“It’s an accident. Nobody could guess it. If you fall out with her because of this, it’s your loss.” Xavier wanted Leia to cheer up. He didn’t want her to blame everyone just because she was worried.

But at this moment, Leia was hostile and vigilant toward everyone else. She quickly sat up straight and shot Xavier a cold look.

“I’m not blaming her, but you’re quite protective of her.”

“What?” Xavier felt wronged and blamed himself for speaking too much.

He knew Leia was always bothered by his amorous past with Flossie. Leia also felt that he saw Shirley as Flossie’s substitute since he couldn’t forget about Shirley.

Flossie was Leia’s friend, so he and Leia always avoided that topic. They could argue because of Shirley or any other woman, but they never mentioned Flossie.

However, the situation right now was like a Pandora’s box that had been suddenly opened. Leia stopped feigning indifference.

Forsty silence overcame everyone. Everyone was full of complicated emotions.

“I need some fresh air,” Leia said coldly, rising. She silently walked past Flossie and went to a deserted corner.

She knew she was being impudent, and that she should never blame Flossie or get jealous for no reason.

However, she was exhausted after so much torture these days. She almost had a mental breakdown, and she couldn’t think straight. She just wanted to see Liam safe. She couldn’t care about anything else.

“Lei…” Flossie wanted to run after Leia, but Xavier stopped her.

“I’ll be with her. You guys should get some rest.” Xavier sighed. He gave Flossie and Justin a profound look before he quickly caught up with Leia.

Flossie flexed her fingers as she watched their backs. She trembled slightly, growing teary. “I knew it! Lei’s mad at me. Even I think I’m a scumbag, let alone her… It would be better if I stopped Liam. I was selfish!”

“It wasn’t your fault!” Justin wanted to hug Flossie, but he thought it might be too inappropriate. She might resist. Hence, he held himself back and tried to comfort her softly.

“People can’t control their emotions when they’re helpless. They’ll find something to attack to relieve their uneasiness. I think she doesn’t blame you. She’s just heartbroken, so she’s hostile to everyone. Believe it or not, she can even kick a passing dog and say it’s because the dog’s barking will affect Mr. Osborne’s surgery.”

“Pfft!” Flossie failed to hold herself back and laughed. “I hope so! Lei is my best friend. She’s like a sister to me. Even though I made a mistake, I don’t want this to affect our relationship.”

“It’s fine even if your relationship is affected,” Justin said casually. “People can’t be close forever. It’s just like our teeth and tongue. We might accidentally bite our tongue. So, it’s fine. We just need to talk more to make peace. I’m sure Mr. Osborne will be fine, so you guys will get closer to each other. You don’t have to worry too much about it.”
